Neat game. I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)
This is a really sad and atmospheric yet beautiful game! love it!
This is a really beautiful experience. It's great to see a game in the jam that really puts the music element front and centre. And the music sure was gorgeous. I just think the game side of things could perhaps do more to support it.
This is a very cool concept! Visuals are great and the music fits the atmosphere perfectly
Hey! I just wanted to let you know that a video of one of my playthrough/reviews is up and you're a part of it!
Take a look here:
I agree with Kuro, that subs would be great for the musical sections, there's times when the English is hard to discern. Please don't fade out before "Open your eyes" the fades are great but they feel like they're just too quick, cutting off stuff at the end of the musical pieces. The game itself is very story heavy which means there's almost no mechanics. I think you could put more in to represent life's struggles. Overall, it felt a bit incomplete but that's just my opinion. Also, I walked left at the very start and fell into oblivion!
Really though, well done!
Thank you for your comment and for the suggestions !
Yes the game is quite incomplete at this state in term of game mechanics but we wanted to put emphasis on the music.
But in the future we want to fill PICO with more mechanics and songs.
It's really nice to see a narrative game in a game jam! This one is really well done, and achieves to deliver a quite touching story. And the music fits perfectly! It's not everyday we have lyrics in a game. Plus the use of vocals as main instrument is great.
I also enjoyed the visuals. The sens of progression, coupled with the character getting slower, is efficient. Although I found the platforming bit of thefirst level just a bit out of place (I don't find challenge to be necessary in this kind of game).
Overall, that was a great journey! Congrats.
Thank you for your comment and feedback !
You think that the challenge isn't necessary into this kind of game, i'm quite interested about it:
My feeling during the design process of the mechanics was that it was necessary to put challenge because the player's progression was bland and pointless.
So what's your point of view about challenge in narrative game ?
Some of the music is a little hard to understand. Subtitles during the songs in between levels might make it easier to tell what's going on.
Thank you for your comment !
Because of the lack of time i didn't have implemented the other song's subtitles.
