You f***in’ madlad! This game was incredible! I had not expected the Ratatouille aspect and thoroughly enjoyed it! You did Bob proud with a great representation of his values and recreation of his aesthetics <3 I loved the diff brushes, which added a lot of depth and I was able to use the fan brush to make trees, fulfilling a childhood dream! This was an incredible work of art in its own right and was quite a fun experience!

An “easy” mode where you tap matching color to area and it auto fills that area would be neat, as I found I’m not much of an artist :P

If you find some time this weekend, please check out our game “Starship Minis”, if you haven’t already, and leave a comment to let us know what you think! https://itch.io/jam/vr-jam-2021/rate/1145490

Thanks and congrats on completing the jam!!

Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it! I unfortunately don’t have a VR headset to check out your game 😅 but I’ll def spread the word to my teammates

Love that you added the mirror off to the side to see your squirrel self! Hilarious and oddly calming game!

This is super creative, I love it! The only thing I would add is collision between Bob’s brushes and the canvas - I kept pushing my brush through the canvas by accident. Although, that jankyness added a lot of charm to it, so maybe it’s not worth the effort? Super into this one, nice job!

Love the concept and the technical side of the game, however, my virtual hands kept shaking for some reason and I had to keep my real hands in very uncomfortable positions. If you would fix those issues (eg. make the required movement range smaller), this game could be elevated to a whole different level of polish.

"If I paint something, I don't wanna have to say what it is"... well said, the game quite literally speaks for itself.

Exporting a final work, as others suggested, would definitely be a huge plus. Can definitely see many people pouring hours into this as a full "Bob Ross Simulator".

Nice!

Mad respect for Ratatouille after playing this :D

Great painting! 10/10 Rob would be proud!

Thanks for sharing your work. Looks beautiful

I had a bit of arm shake, but other than that this was hilarious in the best way possible, very nicely done!

Played the game and first tryed to make a good art piece but after a while just had fun trying to make stuff <3 loved the cam btw

I like the concept of the game!!! IMO border lines of the areas should be thicker. How you did the painting mechanics?

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The basics behind the mechanic is have known "good" material texture for the painting. Have a blank material texture that the paint brush modifies. Compare the pixel values on the modified texture vs the known good texture to check for percentage correct / mistakes.

Okay, took me a bit to realise what was happening. I was like, there must be a glitch somewhere. I've appeared on his head and I have demon hands. haha brilliant outside-the-box thinking there. As I got used to the controls it got easier to paint.

I really recommend developing this further. It's great!

Some Bugs: the controls began to mess up a little at the end, his arm kept twisting and every time I grabbed the palette it would shake.

Developer

Beautiful painting! Love the additions, thanks for playing!

Ohhh my happy accidents! I wish I could save the image that I painted and export it to show off my cool artwork. I'm not sure if anyone else experienced some of the controller tracking seemed off just moving the squirrel hands around without grabbing the hair picks. Like the position was fighting my hand and had some weird orientation, but it seemed to sort itself out for the most part when actually grabbing the hair picks. Such a cool idea and Bob Ross always complimented my crappy artwork! Very cool!!!

Developer(+1)

Sorry about the hand tracking. What platform are you on? We wanted to get painting exporting in but with gamejam time restraints it wasn't possible. Screenshots are encouraged though!

Quest 2 with link cable. The right hand seems to not be tracking the rotation correctly when not grabbing the hair picks. But that didn't detract from the overall fun of the game!

This is one of the most creative submissions I've played so far. Pretty hilarious and reminds me of Surgeon simulator.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The Surgeon Simulator / QWOP vibes were 100% part of the inspiration.

Great concept, Bob Ross would be proud!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We couldn't ask for a better compliment.

Developer(+2)

Just a quick note! We added an apk android build for Oculus users, and a PC+Oculus build that's more compatible with different headsets. I recommend the latest builds, but the game itself is identical to the original build. Enjoy!

Jam Host(+3)

Incredibly interesting and bizarre project! Creative use of theme, and pretty fun while also being pretty difficult. Overall, great work!

Developer

Thanks so much! It was a blast to work on for the jam.

This is definitely one of the projects that's originality is through the roof. As Bob Ross would've said: "This is your world, you're the creator. Find freedom on this canvas"

Big up! Great work!

Thank you!
