Thanks so much to everyone who played and rated the game; I'm so over the moon that you all liked the experience!
Best of luck on your future projects! :3

For anybody who's trying to play with SteamVR, please try it with 'Revive' [ https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive ] it is a godsend.

You got me being paranoid of every single little sound mistaking it by a phone call because I didn't want to miss it when it came... In the end, I got very emotional. My favorite game of the jam so far. Got me thinking about my family, and even though virtual reality is very immersive in nature, it was your game that made me forget I was playing a game jam submission.

Fantastic work.

[note: you made me feel elderly when I couldn't figure out how to turn off the god damn radio hahaha]

Developer

Thanks so much for loading up revive to give it a go!

Glad the immersion really hit for you, when i was designing it I was slightly worried the slow move speed and overall pace would pull some people out of the experience, but fortunately it seems to have worked well to pull players in :)

And yeah... I had some trouble in the code switching it off for whatever reason... Guess that makes me feel out of touch too... Haha

Thanks so much for playing and for your lovely comment! :3

Never wanted to cuss out my daughter more >o<
Abandoning me in a blocky prison, with a phone that may as well be miles away, with notes plastered around goading me for missed calls.

Developer

Hehe, thanks for playing :)

This was an incredible use of mechanics supporting storytelling! The interactables all seemed really thought out and worked well. You were really smart about where to spend your time and you created a real small (super depressing :P) world there, which was a creative take on the theme! And that opening was super cinematic! Ugh, I loved it! Also one of my favorites games of this jam <3 BRB, calling my mom :’(

If you find some time this weekend, please check out our game “Starship Minis” and leave a comment to let us know what you think! https://itch.io/jam/vr-jam-2021/rate/1145490

Thanks and congrats on completing the jam!!

Thanks for such a lovely message! Really glad you took a lot from the game and enjoyed the experience. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on it all. I definitely wanted to include a few more interactables (even just meaningless ones like picking up cups and the like) but alas didn't get around to that with this build. Maybe I'll put some more time into it. We shall see!

I'll definitely check out your game tomorrow :)

You did a great job with story telling!! the game is so emotional :D and the art style fits the story perfectly!! I think this was one of my favorite games of this jam, I might be biased coz I love emotional story games!

Only suggestion is music could've been better. I recommend checking https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/ for amazing music that are royalty free with attribution requirement.

Wow, thanks for the comment!

I seconds your love of the genre, this is definitely my genre; at least to make, as I find it pretty hard to motivate myself towards other forms. But that might be my coming from filmmaking keeping me in that linear mindset (something I do want to break).

Thanks for your suggestion for the music, I did land on something I liked quite quickly from another royaly free site so stopped my search real fast to save time, haha. I felt the airiness and loneliness within this track really helped prime for the story; as well as being oddly well synced up to the pace of the notes. But definitely noted, thanks for sharing the link! :)

Damn... I can't call my grandma anymore cuz they both passed but that is some FEELS gameplay. That first call.... Those motha-fffin robocalls!!! Thought about how annoying they are for us, they must be doubly heart breaking for older people who are expecting calls from their kids.

Great game! Some of the colliders seemed a bit extra large, and I had a hard time reaching some of the interactable objects, especially around the phone and in the kitchen. Some adjusting of the colliders is about the only really critique I have. Great experience!

Developer

Glad you were hit with the feels. :)

Definitely agree with you about the colliders, was definitely one of the bigger hurdles for me to get my head around. I feel like the main body collider was somewhat offset from the player, leading to those funky collisions depending on the players position.

Thanks a bunch for playing!

I'm with Andrew on this one. Put some extra time into this one. I found it cathartic, especially these days. It's easy to live in your own world and forget that you might mean the world to somebody else.  Keep it up.

Developer

Thanks for your words of encouragement, there's definitely a bunch which could be ironed out or expanded :)

This game almost made me cry! Love the story and the message <3

Amazing! (haha) Glad it hit something inside of you. Thanks so much for playing :3

This was very heartwarming. The opening was incredibly well done. I liked your attention to detail when it came to the use of sound effects. I wouldn't mind seeing this turn into a more complete project.

Developer

Wow thanks so much for your incredibly motivating words!
I'm glad the themes shone through and delivered something heartwarming (my brother found it incredibly depressing to play, but I think that's mainly down to the fact the architecture is based on our grandma's house... haha).
I was on the fence about putting more into this or not (like adding more interactables and perhaps another false call), but perhaps you've just convinced me to go for it.

Thanks so much for organising such a great jam, I've been putting off trying to complete a VR project for so long but, as you can see, this event motivated me to do just that :3

Made me want to call my nan, great concept!

Haha, great! Glad it hit you with a touch of empathy. Thanks so much for your comment.
I'll be sure to check out your submission :)

Wow, this game gave me some emotions., I think I understood what this game is about. The slow movement is the speed of an elder person. Each ticks at each second made me think about the time flying by, while I was listening to this incredible audio from the radio. The first call gave me hope at first, then I really felt the disappointment. And I think this experience is in line with the "Small World" Theme, because yes, the elderly live in their own small world. What an amazing experience, I really loved the beginning with the music and notes, it felt like a movie.

Developer

Amazing! Thanks so much for playing. Really glad those key themes came across well!

I feel like you understood my intentions really well, and I'm glad that the emotions kicked in with all that.

I'll be sure to check out your submission! :)
