Great concept and very fun to pick up the tiny Minion-like penguins. It was hilarious hearing them squeal. I had a bit of trouble bopping the whale but maybe I didn't know my hits were registered. I loved being this benevolent being helping these poor penguins. I would buy it on the Oculus Store if you made it into a full game!

I was certain I was only going to save 2, but somehow I glitched them to stay in the middle and saved 13. Nice game, really got into it.
Nice aesthetic, managed to save a few penguins from the orca massacre :) Quick side note, struggled a bit to figure out how to restore the ice, couldn't tell at first if I was doing anything wrong
Overall a great experience!
Great concept that is well executed! Feels like a completed game and the art is really fun! The texture on those VR goggles is mesmerizing <3 Loved penguin mode and the little flippers!
If you find some time this weekend, please check out our game “Starship Minis” and leave a comment to let us know what you think! https://itch.io/jam/vr-jam-2021/rate/1145490
Thanks and congrats on completing the jam!!
Sweet aesthetic and incredibly unique idea. I bet the team discussion pitching the idea was a blast!
The audio and mechanics were nice and self-explanatory, apart from I totally forgot how to stop being a penguin after being in penguin mode... Forcing me to witness the demise of my flightless feathered friends while frantically patching up the ice.
I always find this with text-based tutorials, personally, but that definitely could just be me being forgetful!
Also, hate to be a pedant, but I'd be a little careful with the term "Eskimo" as I know it's seen as derogatory in some circles :)
Sweet game!
Thanks for playing! We didn't know about the term "Eskimo" and have updated the page to reflect the changes. In our next game update we will be updating our in game text as well, thanks! I think my comment got lost in the comments below, but the switching between the penguin mode and the god mode fix narrowly missed the submission deadline by 30seconds so unfortunately that part is broken if you manage to switch to penguin mode. haha. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you CinemaLeo!! We are hoping to add some changes in the updated build including a more "hands-on" tutorial. And yes, thank you for mentioning the nomenclature. We did our planning a little TOO quickly and unfortunately overlooked the correct naming terms. We definitely do not want anyone to be offended by the names of our characters. Once we realized it, we took steps IMMEDIATELY to change all references and instead named him just "Snow God". Please watch out for an updated build after the rating period! Thank you so much for mentioning it as it is very important to take it seriously. Cheers, and thanks for playing!!
Well done! Had really fun with this one :) Great UI & instructions and the audio was funny. Sixteen penguins ended up continuing their life
This game is so cute and nice :) I didn't feel the time passing while playing it :)
Nice work! Really! I had lot of fun and also at one point i laughed a lot, because i tried to save a penguin and inseta i threw it against the killer whale!
Cool idea for the game, nice to have a tutorial and credits for everyone invovled. Sound was great too! Good job overal considering you had 3 days!
Thank you so much for trying it out! The dynamically-changing soundtrack seamlessly changes if you go from Eskimo Mode to Penguin Mode, they each have their own themes. Background music creation is thanks to https://soundguy.itch.io/ :)
so, unfortunately I wasn't able to play the game. I tried multiple methods but it doesn't look like it has HTC Vive support :( by the screenshots alone, it looks like a super fun and challenging game. if you know a way or make a build that supports HTC Vive, let me know! I'd love to play it :)
Oh wow! Thank you for letting us know. We used the generic XR interaction toolkit in Unity, and it should have worked with HTC Vive but we didn't have anyone in our team to test it on that particular headset. Please watch out in a week...after the judging we plan to push an updated build that is less buggy. Hopefully we can figure out HTC Vive compatibility by then :) Thanks for trying!!
it might be because Open VR isn't supported without using the preview packages (for the newest versions of unity) ... valem made a video on how to set it up :) he explains how to set it up around the 2 minute mark... I think I linked the video to start at 1:50... again thank you for your time and effort and look forward to trying out your game :D
I just tried it with my HTC Vive but had to install 'Revive' [ https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive ] since it didn't start SteamVR on its own, worked perfectly with it!
Note to anyone who plays: In the current build the headset grab is a bit broken so if you want to experience the penguins point of view, just to check it out you can physically put your head into the headset and it will change views. In our updated build this is fixed along with a bunch of other issues but we narrowly missed the cutoff for the upload :( Anyway, I hope you all enjoy our game and try to save as many penguins as you can!
I loved the art with the attention to detail (the font with snow on top of it for example). A good idea in line with the theme. I'm really a fan of the sound design, especially the cute sound of the penguins. The cosmic atmosphere is really well done, I loved the evil whale with its reflections! The main menu is very functional, I like it. Concerning the gameplay, I loved (trying) to save penguins, despite some bugs (probably because of the time left), I managed to save about ten of these cute little creatures. Nice work, you can be happy with your game !
Cool concept! Maybe a little bit too ambitious for a 2 days jam 😂
Lot of bugs but still cool! Nice work!
