Takes a while to get used to the controls but becomes really fun once you get the hang of it. Presentation is absolutely top notch, the graphics feels like a love letter to Shovel Knight!

The idea is nice but boy this is ultra-hard !

Developer

The dark Souls of Jam games as 90% of game critics would say. Hope you had fun in between deaths tho.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah don't worry, it's a cool game ^^

This is fantastic and super polished! I love the mechanics and the level of challenge it presents to the player. This is probably my most favorite game so far. Good job!

Developer

I am glad you enjoyed our game. Look forward to the post-jam update we have some things planned for right after the voting stops.

Like all other comments have mentioned, it took me a while and a few attempts to truly grasp the controls. However, as though as the game is, it feels phenomenal to master its mechanics!

Design-wise, the idea was pretty ingenuous! While the base idea of having to move down and up by extending the knight was already great, the later levels with the corridors where the heads and feet actually get stuck and you have to push them up and down to avoid the spikes in the middle were great, and extended (no pun intended) the mechanics in a pretty great way!

The presentation was also top-notch! If anything, I just agree that the difficulty curve should just be a bit more adjusted so a lil'bit more lenient while you are still getting used to the controls. In the current version, however, the coins serve as a fantastic hint and way to show direction.

Overall, fantastic job! Ended up mastering each level. Thank you so much for this fun bit! Cheers! 🐳

Glad you enjoyed and thank you for the great review.

It took me too long on some of the early levels to fully understand how the hit detection worked (For a while I thought boxes were objects and not background). The speed of extensions/retractions also needs to be tweaked. Died on several attempts because I was placed too close to the first obstacle when restarting the level.

Still giving it 5's across the board. The idea is solid, level designs are great. Would love to give a post-game jam version a try.

Great artwork for a solid game!

Speedran this, see if you can beat my time

Wow! Gameplay was completely different than what I expected, and that's great! This is almost like a precision platformer meets a space shooter (without the space ofc). Presentation is fantastic, one thing I'd recommend is starting maybe with an easier first stage? As well, tweaking some of the hurtboxes to be a smidge more lenient would be nice. Overall, fantastic submission!

I'm pretty bad at it, but it's pretty well executed. Smart how you use the coins to hint the player where to extend (Miyamoto would be proud). Maybe my only suggestion would have been to add a turbo button so you can fly faster in the zones that you already know, but nice job 👍

Developer

It would be even more difficult if it went faster.

Submitted

Yeah, but I'm saying that you could give the option to the players of when to go faster

Developer

sure that could work

Really awesome idea, well exectuted, and the level design pulls it all together. Great work!!!

Great game. Hard as nails

Very high quality game with interesting idea! Love stuff like that. I think you need to work with difficulty curve, but that's just my opinion! Well done! :)

You can also look at our platformer game too, if you have a time :)

Developer

It seems that I already played and rated it. Great game btw.

Wow, what a creative game idea for a game. It reminds me a lot of jet pack joyride, this could have easily been one of the vehicles from there. I love the art, sounds, music and vibe.

It's a very punishing game though, even the first level took like 30 attempts to get through. I have some suggestions and notes.

The first instruction on the sign looks like a 5 not an S so I ended up referring to the instructions to see how to play. After reading the instructions and getting past the first obstacle, I then saw the W sign which made me wonder why there was no S sign. And then I saw the S sign and understood why I missed it.

The red boxes in the background are a little distracting. As most things in this game kill you, it took me a very long time to realise that they in fact do not, and I was making the game 10x harder for myself by trying to avoid them when I didn't need to.

The controls are also a little confusing, you press down to go up and vice versa.

Overall, a well polished game and I enjoyed playing!

@JustHellygar @ButteredCoffee I think the idea has some good potential, very nice art style, and sfxs are fitting in the game, although its a little tough maybe you can increase the distance between the platform and roof, overall good work guys :

The only reason there is no 5/5 in each category : to hard to really enjoy. But, Nice game.

Well, this idea is very simple but also very creative. Basically it inverts the control of the knight and adds two additional characters to watch out for.

At first i had the problem that i saw everyting as an obstacle, such as the red boxes and the chains too. With later levels i had to stop at some point, because it was just too difficult to pay attention to three characters at the same time.

Despite that i think this is an amazing submission. My respect, great work!

Loved the mechanic and artwork! Only issue (Not exactly an issue) I felt was the red boxes feels like an obstacle and I died many times by trying to avoid it. Just wanted to share it!

Submitted(+1)

Lovely artwork, consistent design, nice challenges. But the gameplay was too stressful/difficult for me. I would have liked a smoother difficulty curve.

Developer

We did take a bit of a risk by making the game more challenging than usual, but I am glad you enjoyed it regardless. All the levels are also unlocked so If you get stuck on one there are more to choose from.

this game is so great! the main mechanic was well utilized for great effect, leading to difficult but rewarding levels, and the art and music really tie this whole thing together really nicely. although i have to admit some gaps were a lot tighter than others, the levels were easy enough to give an impression of me being able to beat it, while also being hard enough for me to feel proud when beating them. took me a while to beat the entire thing. i hope you make it onto the video, this is awesome :)

Developer

I am really glad you enjoy It and I am proud of you for actually completing the game especially the last level... that one is extremely hard.
