The visuals are awesome and so is the gameplay, well done man! i really like the game.

btw if you can play the game that I made and give me some feedback I really appreciate it :)

Had a bit of fun, my headphones are broken at the moment so I could not give the audio a proper review. I like the visuals they are clear and clean kind of curious if the sprites and visuals where made by yourself? if they where I give good props. The game also is very smooth It took a bit for me to get it as it did not highlight the second box you click. The Ui is also really impressive especially those in the menus.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :).
The sprites and map etc all come from a couple of great artists who have their work up for free on OpenGameArt.org (there's a credits button on the menu which lists the various places free assets came from).
There's some improvement i can make to the selection process. I'll be looking at that as i continue the game. Thanks for the feedback :).

Kkkkk.. good game! Very addicting, I was obsessed to go to the end ... and it was worth the effort! Very well done!

Developer

Thanks! So glad you made it past the Danger Mine! :D
Really appreciate you playing it through, thanks! :)

Thats not my type of game but... i like it!
the way to found gold its a new digging for me and thats amazing! hahahahah
Good job!

Developer(+1)

thanks :) glad you enjoyed it!

I was never into games like this, but damn this is addictive xD

Very nice game, it's like a full game, very polished, everything looks good :)

Developer

Thanks :). Glad you like it!

ADDICTIVE!! Couldn't stop playing.

Really liked the idea of having to Pan Gold in order to have more moves, to proceed further up the levels. My favorite - the subtle cracking sound when the critters match in the Gold Panning stage.

The game gives off a very peaceful vibe. Overall great theme and background music. Would love to come back to it and get to the greatest treasure in the Danger Mine. :D

Developer

Really glad you liked it and enjoyed Pan Handling :).
I wanted to push a bit more on that aspect of needing to come back to and continue to progress in that to get into the rest, but mostly for GamJam playing reasons I eased off and once you're playing in the mine, it's less of a thing.
I do hope you get into the mines, blow some stuff up, and get to the Danger Mine! :)

Thanks for the feed back, I appreciate it!

Solid puzzle game! Very polished and nice story, too!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! glad you liked the story element to!

Submitted(+1)

A charming story-driven game. I'm impressed you got a solid and somewhat unique match-3 plus all the story done within the two weeks. I liked the pioneer music (well, reminded me of the tracks in the 1994 Sid Meier's Colonization at least!)

Developer(+1)

I spent far to long searching for that music,... copywriter free, redistributable, and suitable was a hard combo :P, nearly gave up. But glad i found these, and that you liked them. :)
Thanks, i had the bonus of a bit of extra time off work the second week which helped me dedicate a bit more time to getting it ready and polishing.
Thanks for playing and reviewing!

Great effort, really enjoy that you have multiple gem sets, and different modes. Really brilliant effort for a short game jam.

Your theme and consistency of design go a long way to making the game feel really well designed and polished.

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it, and i appreciate the feedback! :)

Awesome game! It is end-to-end finished, with a story and it is polished. It would have been nice to see some animation for the swaps and something more for the matches, but non the less, I've added to my collection as I want to go back and mine more gold :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
Towards the end it was a battle between features and polish :), and i went with polishing up what i had working. But yeah, improving how the swop and the drop looks is on my list of things to improve for future version (and i've just starter writing that list today :P). I hope to have a bigger version in the future for you to enjoy!
Thanks for playing and the feedback!

Amazing!

I know it sounds weird but this is a GAME. Not a sample, not a demo, not a proof of concept - a game from A to Z. There are some flaws that were mentioned in other comments, but it doesn't matter. For me it was the full experience I would expect from a game.

Super story-telling. Very subtle, but with a strong and touching message at the end. One that hits you a little by surprise. Playing beautifully with the interpretation of the theme. At first I thought - "again gold, mining, etc., I know this interpretation", but the ending added great depth to it. A great example of what good design is.

Plus a list of achievements (I maxed it out), interesting mechanisms (I was swearing like hell when I saw how big the price for moves increase on the last level :D), and all in a nice UI sauce.

Chapeau bas!

If I had to add something creative, there might be more things to buy with gold in the future. E.g. bombs, as an alternative to reset in case of being stuck.

Thank you for that game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot, really means a lot to me. Especially that the "story" element resonated, and came through. It's really nice to hear from players who enjoyed that aspect as much.
Features vs polish became the debate towards the end, and polish won out (though i was still squashing lots of bugs on the final day :P).
After so much unexpected positive feedback, I'm looking to develop this project further, and give it more depth. So I hope you'll get the chance to re-visit Gem Mountains in the future :).

Thanks again for playing and the feedback I really do appreciate it!

I'm sad to admit that it took me a bit to figure it out. One, because I never really played bejewelled that much. Two, because it was a long day at work. That's no fault on this game. Once I figured it out I was hooked. This is a fun game and love the progression system that gets you wanting to move forward. The music was very calming and satisfying as well! Very well done and great submission!

Developer

Yeah, future iterations i need to make more of a tutorial :D to help lead people in without the need to read through the info in the Notes button. Really glad you liked the progression and the music :). Thanks for play and i appreciate the feedback!

Solid game! I spent way too much time (and gold) in those mines. Well done!

Developer

Excellent :), just how it's meant to be :D. But hopefully you made it through to the Danger Mine and found Willys Greatest treasure, and it was all worth it! :D

Thanks for playing, i appreciate it!

Wonderful work! I loved the feel of this game. Really heartwarming but also very chill. Some of these types of games are really loud and flashy. Your selection of SFX really made playing an enjoyable (rather than a jarring) experience.

Developer

Thanks a lot :). I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

I played a lot! The story and gameplay are great!

I think the choice of assets is strange, each one has a different aesthetic, it ended up not resulting in a cohesive look.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!
The art assets came from a couple of great Artists i found on OpenGameArt. I went solo on this Jam, so needed to utilise what i could find. While a bit different (Specifically them Rock Critters, to the Gems), i found them guys too cute not to have in and use :D.
But yeah, moving forwards with the project, i'd need to tighten the aesthetic up :).
Really glad you enjoyed the story and gameplay! Thanks again!

I have no words to describe this game. 5 stars all the way. I legit had tears in my eyes at the ending, shoved down my feelings to not cry.

It felt so personal...

it's been almost 3 years since my brother migrated to Canada and I miss him and my sister in law a great deal.

Message approved and I hope you stay in touch with your family and have all the love around you.

Developer

I'm grateful to hear that the story element touched and resonated with you.
I've been debating moving forward, with how often players really read those sorts of things. So it's great to hear from someone who did follow it through and engaged with it.
Thanks for that feedback, I really appreciate it.

Awesome game, and the list of goals makes us want to play it till the end.

I completed just 2, cause I still have a lot of games to play, and I'm pretty busy in my personal life/projects/family etc...

I really enjoyed playing your game!

Great job!

Developer

Rookie Mine is the most fun anyway :D.
Thanks for playing! I appreciate it!

Just wanted to let you know, my mom loves these types of games and has been playing yours for quite awhile now. :p

Developer

ahh that's great! Thanks for letting me know :).
If an experienced Matcher as herself has any feedback for me, please pass it on :).

Submitted(+2)

Very nicely done! I played through it all. :)

And now for some constructive commentary: it seems that it doesn't detect when there are no moves left (or maybe I missed one?), that would be a nice detail. Also, I found that being able to buy moves so easily made it not so challenging. Finally, and that's purely personal, I found the music not that great. But I'm a musician, and a picky one. ;)

Developer(+1)

Getting things polished vs adding new features became a battle towards the end :).
Rather than figure out and work in the code for auto detect, i decided to stick in a manual reset button. As i developed the gameplay, this turned into quite a good strategic tool to use as a player. Choosing when to clear out the mine to start a fresh, to try and gain new bombs and such. With more time i'd like to add a few more things, such as move suggestion. Auto shuffle may come in with some game formats, depending on gameplay style, but it's on the list (i should write this list soon :D).
Buying moves was something i wanted to add in, specifically for the last mine, where it's expected and required that you'll need to use up your gold buying moves to complete it. On a difficulty level front i leant towards trying to make things easier, so that more people would get through and enjoy the process and complete the "story", especially in this GameJam set-up (the old mantra that your an expert at your own game, and other players won't have played it before). But moving forward the cost, and such for this element will need to be looked at i think, so it's something to consider moving forwards.
As for the music, you're the first to not like it :D. I've had loads of feedback from people loving it :). I was restricted to things i could find, Copy-write free, and redistributable (which is very hard to find with Music). But i respect your'e opinion on that front, even if i disagree :D. I'd probably look to get new music anyway in an expanded project.
Thanks for playing and the feedback, i appreciate it.

Well done - UI and gameplay were all in good order and it was fun and addicting. Art looked great too. This was really well scoped and fits the theme nicely, so good choice!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! i'm glad you liked it. I was fortunate with the Art to find a couple of excellent fake on openArt whose Assets i could tie together nicely. I'm glad you checked out the UI in particular, i spent ages keeping on top of anchor points and such :D.
