The combat system is awesome in this, I loved the feel of trying to combo pages and juggling sanity. Great theme. Audio stopped randomly though, web player issue? not sure. This combat system fits in with the theme rather well, and I'm really glad I played it to experience something new. You should definitely consider taking this project further, huge potential there.

I only realized after the deadline that the audio stops working. I simply forgot to loop it :D
Thanks for the feedback, I'm already working on the next version!

The graphics and general vibe of this was great! Writing was good too. I liked the subtle effect when moving.

The main combat mechanic is very good and it's a great system with lots of potential for expansion. The fights are maybe a tad too slow in this jam entry but it is otherwise a very clever and fun system.

I'm a sucker for a 1-bit colour palette, and the card-based combat was cool. Would like to see more.

I like the art, it's very crisp and stylish! The gameplay feels pretty slow, though; between the first enemy taking ten hits and attacks taking multiple clicks to execute it felt a little demoralizing right off the bat! If the game could be made a little snappier I think that would help a lot?

Hope it was fun to make!

I REALLY like combat system.  It's just a demo but i got some fun with it! Subscribed

Thanks, this is a high praise! I'm already working on the next version of this game.

This gave me a strong undertale feel with the enemies and that is a very good thing - I would definitely love to play a completed version of this if you are going to take it further after the jam. You are on to something good!

A great game! It seems inspired by both  Lovecraft and  world of horror. Anyway looking forward further development after the jam

I see I'm not the only one who jumped to Lovecraftian themes :D  Thanks for the feedback!

I reeeeally liked this. Between the theme, the Apple ][ esthetic, and the combat mechanic that had you juggling your sanity, this was definitely my "jam". I hope you complete this!

Sadly this is an unfinished entry but it has enough gameplay in it to warrant a vote. I really like the combat mechanism and I would very much like to play a finished version of this. Well done so far :)

Suggestion: Double click card to activate it. Gain sanity from left-over cards after combat ends, not only after each turn.

Developer

Good suggestions, thanks! Makes me want to work on this game a little more.

I can certainly see this going somewhere. I like the presentation and the resource being gained from the cards you don't use.

Only a detail at this point but, as bad as it may sound narrative-wise, current life and sanity kept from one fight to the next might not be a good idea.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! Regarding sanity, I planned for it to have some effect on the world around you (e.g. you start seeing secret passages when at low sanity, but also monsters change their appearance and keep getting stronger), so there'd be at least some risk/reward in not replenishing it.

That would indeed be cool, I take back what I said :) .

This prototype has potential and the idea itself is interesting. I hope it gets further development.
