In what way does your game fit the theme?
You are making an ant empire (antpire) so the more ants you have the stronger you will be together.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
All the assets (art, sound fx, music ) were made from scratch except for the text font and also all the code was written by me.

I like your idea. Searching around and assigning ants for work. It's chill at first. But I feel bored the more I played. When I upgraded the moving speed to 8/9, I can eat everything in a second, even a piece of bread(I guess it's the longest time required food?). And I don't have a goal. What should the player do when I get a lot of power? Maybe cutting the trees or crushing the rocks when I have so many ants.

Some advice for UIUX, telling the player available ants instead of working ants would help. Then, I no need to do the math assigning the ants.

BGM is great. It fits the vibe nicely. Except it is too short. So I feel it's repeating over and over.

Other than that, great entry. Well done!

Yes there are a lot of things that could be added to this game and also to be fixed but we didn't have time to make a full game in only a week. Thanks for the suggestions and the feedback :)

Chill game with no enemies, pretty fun to grind more ants and find food.

Only problem for me was the low amount of food and the progression as if you eat an apple you can get enough ants and upgrades to eat every other food in seconds.

And then the games becomes just searching like a detective for a potatoe or tasty red apple hidden in the corner of the map.

Anyway, great idea and chill atmosphere just needs a bit more tuning of the values.

Developer

Didn't really have time for testing that is why :)

Yeah, I know.. It's a jam after all. We didn't have the time too

btw I uploaded a game playthrough on our submission page so you can understand what the game is about

Cute little feel-good game that has some zen-like vibe to it in its serenity. The core mechanics work well, have to point out the nice tutorial at the start that was informative but stayed to the point, kudos on that! Played for some 15 minutes upgrading stuff, then ran out of food. Some pointers:

UI scales weird when fullscreen, also the upgrade window blocks the amount of money you have when open.

It's rather easy to get lost with no clear way to see where you have been to - perhaps a minimap or something?

This game was pretty fun to play!

One suggestion I have might be to match some of the sprites a bit more, mainly I'd say the character, as the character is just one solid color with a black/really dark outline, while the objects and such in the world have shading and don't have a black outline.

I'd also add a diagonal animation for the ant as it looks a bit awkward, but I'm guessing you've already heard that.

Last suggestion would be to add a slider or something for the call menu, as manually typing in the value every time and making sure it works gets pretty tedious.

By the way I was able to abuse that negative working ant glitch and got like -5000ish, and was able to get to the species level 15 pretty fast lol, so that was interesting.

Anyways the game was really fun to play, good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I know the game could be improved a lot and also that bug has to be fixed lol :)

This is one of those games that needed no explaining that it fits the theme, also the game had great mechanics and a good amount of polish, and a great experience overall! Good job, team!

Really nice game. I love maxing out stats in games, the feel of getting stronger is really good. I believe my suggestions wouldn't differ from other comments here. So I'll simply say, congratulations guys.

Nice game it had certain small bugs but overall good game.

There can be certain improvements such as adding enemies and you have to fight other ant empires or fighting insects, you can add like a small abilities such as sprint, smell for detecting food when you have evolved enough.

A some bugs: The UI is a bit broken when you are in fullscreen and the working ants goes to  "-1", but overall nice game.

Developer

I know the bug with the negative working ants. I have fixed it in the last moment but the build was taking too long so I didn't have time to upload it in time for the jam. I will fix this bugs after the jam is over.  Thanks for the suggestions :)

The concept fit the theme well, and the shop mechanic introduced nice variety in the upgrade path. It would be cool to see the ant army grow and follow the player when they are not working.

Pretty good game, you feel like you become stronger when getting more ants, the art and music fits it really well, the only thing I think it's missing an actual final goal objective, just upgrading everything feels pretty empty without other objectives aside from getting food.

overall cool little game really enjoyed it.

Good concept that fits the theme well. The growing of your ant army is fun.

Things I would improve: Go for constant pixel size in the art; Rework the calling of ants. Typing is interrupting the game flow in my opinion.

All in all a good entry. Well done!

the game was nice. It was very relaxing and the map was really big. I ended up having 100 ants, At some point of the game my food points reached a negative number when i was spamming the ant power ups, maybe it was a bug. The only problem that i had was there were very few food, and one suggestion is that instead of clicking the left mouse button repeatedly it would be better if you just hold it instead.

Developer

yes sorry for the bug. Didn't have time to fix it. Thanks for the suggestion !

I love incremental games!! I got to 95 ants, great job!

Wow great job. Visually the game is very beautiful, the audio is very nice and puts us in a relaxing atmosphere. The gameplay is also relaxing and the player understands very quickly what he has to do because the game guides him well! I really liked the graphics.

The map is super big, it's great.

Good job.

very cool, the only issue is the lack of food, i feel like i'm on antartica

Developer

Lol you are  an ant :) and for you the map is pretty big. As you advance you find more food :)

Good fun, very enjoyable to play! A little bit too slow at the beginning I feel, harvesting the first thing takes absolutely ages and is quite cumbersome but, once you get more ants it eases up a little. Good job!

A solid idea for the theme. The graphics are pretty simple but get the point across, I noticed and liked all the small touches you added, like the objects fading out when you're behind them, or the text scaling up on hover.

It took me a while to find food, and I reloaded several times. I think maybe having a minimap could've gone a long way in helping the player figure out where they're at, both location-wise, and food-wise (although that can be really hard to implement). Or maybe an option to zoom out for a moment if you stand still and press a key ? Even an arrow pointing towards the hive would've been super helpful in keeping track of my position, it's really hard not getting lost, although I guess that's part of the experience of being an ant :)

I think you did a great job at explaining the concept of the game, although one thing that tripped me up is that I figured out leaves were food only like after 10 minutes of playing (since you cannot eat bushes and trees, I thought leaves were also decorative only), so having a list of food at the beginning could fix that.

Regarding the UI, I feel like you can't reassign the number of workers on a particular food? But the windows still shows up if you click on it. Having to type in a number is a bit jarring, maybe having a + and - button on top of that could make things smoother. I'm also not sure if there's a way to get the exhausted ants back to work, I couldn't find an explanation for that.

I feel like I've talked a lot about negatives and possible improvements, but all in all it was still relaxing to walk around and assign workers on food, it would've been really great with small tweaks and QoL improvements here and there. Well done :)

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you for the feedback and all the suggestions. The exhausted ants will be available after a minute. You just have to wait :)
