In what way does your game fit the theme?
The player uses Lumi's abilities to light up his way, while defending her with his combat skills

" Hey Guys !

Quick comment to say that, in the rush of publishing the game, we forgot to disable Dashing and Double Jumping at the start.

If you want to experience the game as it was designed originally, we advise you NOT to use those abilities until you unlock them the proper way

Otherwise, if you're in for a quick test, then have fun messing around at full power, right from the start ^^ "

We HIGHLY encourage you to read our Itchio page, as it contains controls, and more informations on the state of the game ! :)

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
We were a team of 5 people, we created all scripting and most assets ourselves

I really liked this game, it took me a while to understand what to do but then I read your itch.io page which made things a bit clearier, good call. Kudos to whomever was behind the art, it was really well done.

If you;re into great visuals, do rate and review our game as well!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Yes, we should have made tutorials to make the game more understandable.

We are glad you liked Lumi.

Submitted(+1)

Liked the use of 2D lights (learnt about them in this jam itself XD)) and aesthetics overall, gameplay was fine too, also the take on the theme about using all the abilities s quite unique too! The combat system could have been better. Overall, it was a nice experience!

Developer

Thanks for playing Lumi. Yes, the combat system is not great, we will be reworking it and all the rest of the game in our spare time.

Submitted(+3)

Cool and interesting game!

Submitted(+3)

Pretty fun game! This was a really nice platformer with great concept and mechanics. A tutorial would have been great but letting the player discover the game is still a great solution :) I really liked the graphics of this game. The combat could have been better but it was ok. I really liked it! Good job!

Developer

thanks a lot ! We're glad you enjoyed playing it, it means a lot to us ! We want to improve the game as much as we can, so we'll probably add a tutorial sometime in a near future (as soon as we can). We do hope that'll make the game more accessible and fun for new players, as well as ones who already played it, as we intend to refine combat system and add new content :)

cool art

i really liked the art of the game and the general gameplay it was lots of fun

Developer

Thank you for your comment, we are very touched!

Submitted(+2)

I really enjoyed Lumi. Aside of the animations issues that everybody mentions, I think it looks really polished. Would love to see more audio effects and music. Wish you good luck!

PS: The light effect was made with 2d lightning and URP, right?

Developer

Thank you ! We intend on adding more sounds, effects, etc. to make the game feel more 'alive', we'll try to continue this game for as long as we can, as we got quite the good feedbacks, and think that it deserves to be polished and fixed the way it should be at term. We'll try to post an update right after the voting phase ends, so stay tuned if you're still interested then !

And yes, we used 2D lightning to create the effects, with the Universal Render Pipeline. :)

Submitted(+2)

Great game! It reminded me of Hollow Knight. I like that your health is directly linked to the light source, and there is quite a lot of content for a game jam.  There seems to be an animation bug when jumping, the transition time between each state is probably too high.

Lumi is kinda cute, ngl.

Developer

Thanks for playing ! Yeah, we had some trouble with animation sync' with movements, we'll look into that to get a more fluid/content oriented version soon, and yes, Lumi is indeed kinda cute :)

Submitted(+3)

That's quite a cool game like the audio fade in and out in some area. And I find some bug that after I die(?), i can keep moving around like below picture and cannot return to menu(press esc no response). Enemy ai still follow me but cannot deal any damage.

But still, it is a fun game.

Developer(+1)

We've never seen this bug, but now that you've given us feedback we'll be able to fix it, before releasing a better version of the game. Thanks for playing

Submitted(+2)

I liked the cave noises and the head disconnecting. I had a bug where my head would not come back to me though. I think the enemies need some sort of knockback so that there is less of a chance for you to take damage from them. The animation felt a little stiff, I wonder if inverse kinematics would work well for this game and the general theme of the world.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for testing Lumi, we are working on improving the gaming experience, to release a version as soon as the jam is over, fixing bugs.

Submitted(+3)

Very great game! The only game in this jam so far that made me feel excited to explore and dive deep into the game's mechanics, which is really amazing considering it was made in a week! Amazing art design as well. The combat felt a little clunky though, but that's my only complaint.

Developer

We are really happy that you liked playing Lumi.

We will be releasing a corrected and slightly improved version at the end of the jam, if you're interested, please follow us to stay informed.

Thank you for all the compliments it's nice.

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game, game felt a little clunky at times and slow with the animations and mechanics. Really cool art though but it is lacking in vibe and energy with no backing music track and only not much variety in sound coming from it. It doesn't feel like theres a lot of energy and life in it. Overall though there is definetly potential in this as the light mechanic where you throw your head about to see light in different places is very interesting and i highly recommend you lean further into this and brush up on the fighting mechanic as it feels very bare bones. Good job, lots of potential in this!

Developer

Thanks for testing the game, and for feedback, we'll try to sort out any issues with releasing an improved version of the game at the end of the jam.  All of your feedback is very useful for us to better understand the player experience.  Thank you

Submitted(+1)

Can't play it... Only built for 64bit, mine is 32bit ;-;

Developer(+1)

sorry to hear that :/ We'll try to post a WebGL version after the votes, if you're still interested then

Submitted(+1)

I am not sure what you used to make the light but it do looks like a sprite or a mixture of sprite and sprite mask. I think the game would looks better using 2d lights.

Very cool game, the actions and animations feels good. And I am glad you included controller support.

If you decide to keep developing this game after the jam, I am very curious what can this turns into.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback ! It's a bit awkward to say, but we did use 2D lights in the game, but I guess the way they get on top of another, multiplying their intensity in the process, is what made you think that. But you raised a perfectly valid point, and we'll add that to our 'to-do list' for the version we plan to release once the voting has ended. We look forward to your feedback on that version as well, and sure hope you'll enjoy it even more !

Submitted(+1)

Interesting, I also not sure why I feel in that way then. And if you already using 2d lights, maybe you can also include 2d shadows ? It might take some work but I think it can really improve a game like this.

I am looking forward to your game.

Developer (1 edit)

Neat suggestion ! We'll be sure to look into that, seems like a good fit. Thank you :)

Great game, very atmospheric! Gave me major Hollow Knight vibes with the barriers you dash through. I love the lighting!

I think a little more of a tutorial would have been good to ease the player into the game. Doesn't need to be a text tutorial even, just like having a pit they need to jump out of, then a block they need to attack to break, etc, but with no other distractions. I was also unsure of what the lumins did

I'm not sure which of the abilities I was using was supposed to be unlocked from the start, like was the right click supposed to be unlocked? I wasn't too sure what that did, it didn't seem to do much when my head was on my body.

Also I love how the head gets separated from the body, that was a really cool mechanic! The enemy designs are great too!

Unfortunately my head got stuck in the ground so I was softlocked. Would love to give this game another shot though if the progression bug is fixed!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your comment, we appreciate it a lot ! As for the tutorial issue, we indeed noticed that most players missed parts of the controls without one, or were a bit confused about what to do. As we had to cut parts of the production, due to time management, we couldn't implement a tutorial for the initial release, but rest assured we will repost a new updated version once the voting end, adding stuff we initially wanted to add, but couldn't because of time, as well as stuff that the community suggested, and that matched perfectly with our global view of the game. I sur hope you will try it once we release, as we thrive on feedback to improve ! :)

Submitted(+2)

I'll be following this game, it has potential!

Submitted(+2)

Everything is great except the fps. My fps is very low. Is the game meant to be that way? Anyway I really like the how Lumi lights up the surrounding and the way her head disconnected from her body when she got attacked. Good work! :D

Developer

We're sorry for the fps issue you encountered. It's the first time we've had this feedback and we'll see how to fix it! Thanks I hope you enjoyed the game anyway!

Submitted(+2)

Neat animations.

Developer

thank you for your feedback!
I hope you enjoyed the game and its gameplay!

Submitted(+3)

Awesome! It was fun to play, the graphical style was interesting and unique, and the sound design was very satisfying! The only drawback I found was the animations sometimes being a little wonky and delayed but, considering that didn't actually impact on gameplay, I got over it quite quickly! Good game :D

Developer

Thank you for your comment, we are very touched. The animations will be reworked so that it is much more fluid.

I hope you enjoyed it!

Cool entry! I think I explored the whole map. Was there any final boss?? Unfortunately I did not realize that the abilities had to be unlocked and that you had a bug. Nonetheless find my video review below:

Developer(+1)

thank you very much for your feedback but also for your video which allows us to see how the player reacts to the game! it's a great idea to make a video. indeed, we planned to put a final boss but we did not necessarily have the time. We will continue to work on Lumi to improve the game. Thanks and we are sharing your video to the group members. thanks again!

Submitted(+3)

Very cool game! I wish the controls were a bit easier on the hands (I'm a big stickler for controls that are all bunched up), but the art, sounds and feel of the game is top notch! Great Jam game! And thanks for playing mine :D

Developer

thank you very much for your reply ! indeed, we are working on smoother controls but also on how to guide the player correctly. I hope you enjoyed playing it!
