It's a really fun game but, i feel that the theme is misused, the story feels like it's a excuse to make a shooter game, and the theme is not actually part of the game, it's part of the story instead, but i gave you extra points because i liked the game and the plot, keep going!

Developer

You’re totally right :) Thanks for playing and for the great feedback!

There are some glitches with objects - some of them fly out of the screen when I push them :)

Fun to play!

Cool game.

ok I really saved him/it. I played it in the browser, and the performance is obviously not good (3d is hard in browser), when there are too many lights, particles and so on. But there is a way to get rid of the shader compilation stutter. Reminds me a bit of a mixture of, hotline miami, perfect dark and few other titles.
The music adds to the action and "drive".

Developer

We were only able to reproduce the shader compilation bit - what is the right solution there?

this would be starting point. godot can‘t yet compile the shaders for web beforehand. You have to do it ingame before the real game starts.

So that the players cpu doesn‘t hitch/stutter when the particle or shader effect happens for the first time.

Very specific but reminds me of the wave of "GO" Eidos games that came out on mobile phones and PS Vita.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the Eidos call out, I am definitely a fan of that era.

Very cool 3D game.

I like the premise of AI relationships and the potential for crazy that presents when they’re shut down.

In the server room, the enemies rushed me into a corner and pushed me out of the level. The camera couldn’t keep up when running to the data center. I suggest clamping the camera to a rectangle around the player so that doesn’t happen while still having the smooth camera movement.

For the web lag, it’s possible to front load the lag by preloading the shaders. I’ve done it before by creating all the objects at the beginning of the game behind a loading screen Control and let them run for a fraction of a second. You’ll need to make sure every instance in game is using the same material though.

Developer

Thanks for the suggestions - we tried the shader trick but it didn’t work this time around. Maybe we need to revisit it! Also we definitely didn’t test stacking the speed boost or make the wall colliders thick enough. Thanks for playing!

Yeah, the pitfall with shaders I had for my previous games is that the object needs to be exactly the same environment too. So what I did was put all our WorldEnvironment and lights into a scene that could load a map. Then loaded a tiny map for the shader compilation.

This page has a few things to keep in mind. https://www.reddit.com/r/godot/comments/osx0f6/my_very_comprehensive_shader_cache_solution/

Hadn’t heard about the WorldEnvironment bit - thanks for the tip!

This was a fun one, I have mad respect for people who go 3D for a 9-day game jam! :) I liked the flow of the intro part, the aiming was smooth, the level design was great. Aside from the lagging issue on web that people already mentioned, I found that it was sometimes annoying that someone was shooting at me, but I wasn't yet seeing them, only could guess their general direction. Also, when I picked up a speed-up on the street level, the camera wasn't able to catch up to my speed so I didn't know where I was and what I'm shotting at. Overall, the game was fun, but could use more polish.

PS: I just kept playing and somehow rolled outside the level:

Developer(+1)

Yeah we let the speed boosts stack with zero regard for anything but zoom :D. Thanks for playing!

Developer(+1)

There is no collision on the exit to that level, so if that happens you can just go around the side and walk back in 😂 Thank you for playing!

I actually rolled through the wall somehow near that point where the enemy lies, not sure how it happened.

Submitted(+1)

HAHAHAHHA!!!! Oh my gosh this was fun, my game was tweaking out during gunfights, and I lost, but it was still really cool!

So cool story ! I have got a lots of fun thanks for this games ! I figured out that the easiest way sometimes is to escape fast and not shoot a bullet X)

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! Wish we had more time to tune enemy density and balance

Really fun! I love the Hotline Miami style that this game has. Great work! I managed to clip through a wall while shooting. I think I had the grenade launcher with the multishot boost. Congrats on the entry! :D

Fun game! Died a few times in the city level because the character started moving really fast and I got swarmed but the chaos was part of the fun. Keep it up!

Developer

Thank you for trying it out!

Submitted(+1)

really cool game, gave me some hotline miami vibes

Submitted(+1)

Aside from the lag spikes, I also clipped outside the map on the end level 😅 But good game!

Developer(+1)

You got too powerful! Thanks for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Very cool! Apart from the first hiccups you know about, it was fun to play, well done!

Also in the server room I was somehow able to clip through a wall haha, no big deal

Developer(+1)

We didnt test the speed boost against the walls :D

Really love the reverse idea of GPT tell me how to hide a 200 pound chicken lol! I think the gameplay and story are also very diegetic! The mechanics are simple yet fun aswell, with the music and sfx being the right volume. Keep up the good work!

What a fun game!!! My spacebar got some use towards the end!!

Wow, this is a great top-down shooter. It really reminds me of Alien Shooter, which I loved playing back in the day. The difficulty is just right, and I'm having a blast.

Submitted(+1)

That was pretty fun and chaotic action haha! Some of the upgrades can get a bit out of hand at times, but that's part of the fun. I think there are some performance hiccups when playing on browser, perhaps some of the VFX are not getting cached properly on launch? Overall great entry!

Submitted

Fun game! Had some minor hiccups when shooting but that might be on my side. Love the kickback when shooting and when I got some different weapons it was fun chaos!

Developer

Thank you for playing! We tried a couple things to deal with the major lag when you first start shooting, but it was time consuming to test since it works fine outside of the browser. 😅 I'm glad you enjoyed the chaos 😁

Really cool! Congrats!

I managed to beat it after dying a few times, really fun! I also like the subject matter, very topical lol.

On the city level I died whenever I tried to go straight to the data center as instructed, but going around the side was much more manageable.

Although I did die a few times very suddenly, quicker than I could even know exactly where the damage as coming from, I still had a lot of fun with the gun play! Very satisfying.

As a final note, on the ending cutscene, there were a few missing characters on the web export? I don't imagine they were intentional, as I have ran into something similar before.

Still, very fun! Congrats on the game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for playing! The web build didn't support emojis, turns out (late addition). I didn't really know how to quickly deal with that, so I ignored it 😅

Thanks again for playing!

Yeah, I believe you have to use a custom font for that, which is pretty annoying... But it didn't detract from the rest of the experience! Good job on the game!
