Now, I can't say that playing this game was necessarily "fun", but it sure was evocative and emotionally satisfying. Real Darkwood vibes out here, with the top-down view and lighting being so essential to survival. Also, dark and gloomy art style and masterfully staged horror moments (like that corridor in the very first level!).
But the main point of interest for me was the movement mechanic. It is a risky move to make basic movement in the game so deliberately difficult and frustrating, even, but it all paid out in the end, at least for me. Because the feeling of absolute dread and vulnerability that comes with this is just so palpably real. And also, being a person in the world and knowing about people with disabilities who have to use wheelchairs and how absolutely nightmarishly difficult even the most banal and everyday things can be for them (zombies is one thing, but god forbid if this game would have have a long stairway section - now this would be a real horror!), really adds up to the experience of horror. Game catches this feeling well, very clever control scheme design, with each movement requiring you to really physically push the mouse.
Overall, masterful work. Very impressive!
I don’t even know where to start. As a fan of the genre, I absolutely LOVED this game. The visuals, the atmosphere, the wheelchair and flashlight mechanics — everything works perfectly together to create a tense and genuinely terrifying experience. I hadn’t even reached the first enemy and I was already on edge just because of the movement limitation from the wheelchair and having to recharge the flashlight. Not being able to move while using items is such a great and logical design choice.
Brilliant would be an understatement. I really hope you turn this into a full game soon :)
Thank you for loving Half Left. You can follow us on many channels to update the latest product information.
This was an intense experience. The art and atmosphere were fantastic. It was like a combination of an old-school RPG and the experience of playing Half-Life or The Last of Us. I know the controls were meant to be hard, and so I persevered.
One of the problems I had was I couldn't re-read the notes. There was too much contained on that first note to digest and it took me a while to realize the buttons were also in the upper right-hand corner. The other issue was that I just got stuck and didn't know where to go. I got to the T in the corridor, turned left and nothing in that room. Turned right and dead end there. That's where I gave up. I also couldn't get the med kit to activate.
I would've loved to see a controller option, perhaps each stick is used to operate each wheel? Often when I was moving the mouse and I was going horizontally I found myself trying to move the mouse in the direction of travel instead of straight ahead.
Overall really polished but I would've liked to experience more gameplay. Very fascinating world you've created.
Sorry for the product still has many small bugs. You can try downloading game for a better experience. <3
A game with quite a lot of potential, i will support you guys when the game is finished. the art and atmosphere are great, the gameplay i am torn between too hard and interesting, but i think you guys will lead a better experience if given more time. Good luck
I will try to balance the game as best as possible before the official launch. I hope so :V
Truly an unsettling atmosphere - it creates a suffocating, almost hard-to-breathe vibe.
My main critique is about accessibility. There’s quite a bit to learn right at the start, and the controls aren’t very intuitive. During my first playthrough, I actually got stuck in the very first room - I didn’t realize there was a door at the end of the corridor and spent a good 5–10 minutes searching for a secret passage with my flashlight. It wasn’t until I watched Fort Kenmei’s video that I figured it out.
That said, making such a complex game clear and intuitive within a game jam timeframe is no easy task, so it’s totally understandable.
Wishing you all the best with the game - it definitely deserves a bit more polish, and with that, a lot more attention!
I truly appreciate you for patiently playing the game despite the navigation issues. We will definitely update and improve the game so that players can experience it at their own pace, just like your feedback suggested. More importantly, we’ll focus on the story and concept, which we couldn’t fully develop due to the time constraints of the game jam. If you’re interested, please follow our Discord channel!
very interesting and spooky game, i liked that you were in a wheelchair. i think that's very unique
The complexity of the mechanics for movement and flashlight are amazing. Reaaly well done!
Just missed the jam theme, but the game is great! Nice job! Congrats!
Hey — I liked your game Haunted Harvest, it’s got a fun cozy-but-spooky vibe that fits the jam really well. I did run into a small bug where the scarecrow didn’t always trigger correctly when I approached from certain spots, which made things a bit confusing. One suggestion would be to add a clear sound or visual cue when you complete an objective — it’d make progress feel smoother. Nice work overall!
If you’ve got a moment, I’d love it if you could check out my game and leave a rating too: https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-halloween-jam-2025/rate/3971977

So overall, I thought this was a pretty well-designed game, and it was pretty scary and enjoyable, so good job on that first and foremost! I did, however, have some issues, the first being that the notes were a little hard for me to read with the font that was used on them. Maybe having the notes with that font and then an additional UI pop-up of regular text over it, similar to how RE or Silent Hill does it, would make them easier to read, just as an example.
The other area I ran into a bit of issues with was with moving the character in general, there were times when moving sideways that I thought I was moving it the way I though felt right and it would jut completely go the opposite direction from what I was trying to get it to go.
Your Aesthetics, Music and sound design were amazing though and I don't really have anything to critique on those so good job there.
Thank you for your feedback and for playing the game! The notes are actually my own handwriting, so yes -they can be a bit hard to read, and your suggestion is a really good one.
As for the movement issue, it might be related to the braking mechanic - when holding the brake, the player can push the wheels forward or backward to turn left or right. At the same time, our movement system can cause some loss of directional awareness from the top-down angle -something we’re still working to improve.
Once again, thank you so much for playing and for your sincere feedback!
Very high notes from me. Nurse is cute and animated, game is climatic and scary. Good work with notes that explained everything you need to know. Going on a wheel chair was really hard for a longer time. Few times I drifted into some obstacles and had problems to move out, but that's for sure some unique experience.
You know, all those notes are actually written in my own handwriting. When I was a kid, my teacher once told me that no one would ever want to read my writing because it was so messy. But now, if they don’t read it, they’ll get into trouble - making games is fun, isn’t it? :3333
Absolute madman xD
Really nice idea!
Well developed game. Aesthetics vise its the best but walking got annoying. Good idea, well executed!
Amazing concept! playing as a wheelchair bound protagonist in a survival horror game is truly terrifying due to her limited mobility. Great artstyle, atmosphere and mechanics. More people should play this! it's a gem. Easily my number 1 game in this jam!
Thanks for the compliment. The main product target is Steam. Hope you can follow us on Discord.
Can't wait till it hits steam! I'll be looking forward for the release. Good luck to you guys!
This was impressive your whole team seem very skilled, you nailed the horror genre and had innovative mechanics. I think you should continue your development journey you have made a great start here.
That's a real horror experience, not just screamers out of nowhere and without a reason.
Lightning, ambience, and many gameplay systems produce a great game result.
Highly recommend trying that project. True gem.
Glad you like the product <3
Moving with mouse drag isn't really that intuitive when you think about it because I had to hold the mouse button and drag at the same time to move around. While this game has some amazing art, level design, top notch horror elements (e.g. the fonts on the notes, darkness, blood, music), this game probably would've been better if the movement bindings are mapped to keys as opposed to mouse hold and drag.
I understand your difficulty. But I have no intention of making things easier in terms of movement. However, I will try to improve the best for the player experience.
I highly recommend continuing this project after the Game Jam! It's really promising, and the whole premise of the game is really fascinating.
Our goal is to upload it to steam. <3
I thought the moving around with the wheelchair was super polished and was really fun! The visuals were great, and so was the sound design!
Thanks for your review. <3
I love the aspect of the wheel chair scrolling with the mouse! However, there were a few bugs where a prompt for E would show and nothing could be done, and also maybe make it so you scroll in the direction you're moving, because when moving sideways it feels a little off. Awesome though, can't wait to see what this can become!
We will try to fix the current bugs. See you in the demo on steam <3
This is an extremely promising game ,with unique, challenging gameplay mechanics. It’s a bit hard to get used to at first, but once you do, it becomes incredibly immersive, and you can clearly feel the cohesion in the gameplay design. The art direction is polished and full of ideas , more importantly, it perfectly fits and reinforces the game’s intended expression. I look forward to seeing a full, well-developed version from the team in the future. Your game isn’t for everyone, but it will surely appeal to the hardcore and creative gaming community.
