Hey, cool game. Seems a bit unfair to upgrade the rover if you die. You just send up in a death spiral. Maybe include more methods to evade the rover like tossing rocks to distract it or kicking up some dust to obscure line of sight.

At the moment the best tactic is to pick smaller size and see through walls and just circle around the nearest rock.

EDIT got the laser gun and shot the rover and then the game crashed lol

Alot of these things can be blamed on having 5 days and being alone. Theres no playtesters I had, and with my spaghetti code, me testing the ending scene before changing some unrelated things  didnt suffice.

I dont think I will work on the game further as I dont think theres demand for it. If I were to, I would seriously reconsider the balancing of the game.

Fun game i enjoyed the concept of powering up through death and hiding from this absolute menace. Would really appreciate if you could try my game too!

I had no idea the Mars Rover was such an absolute savage!!

I love the idea of this and the use of the theme. Having the win upgrades also give buffs to the rover was a nice touch but boy is it easy to let it get way too powerful! 😅

We actually had the similar idea while brainstorming at the start. So cool to see that somebody made it into reality!

Developer(+1)

The idea was too good to pass up for me, I hope I did it justice.

For me the game does not scale properly. I only see upper left part of the game view :/

Developer

You cannot play the game in fullscreen unfortunately :/

super cool idea!!

A unique take on the theme. I never knew it could shoot lasers. Anyway I feel like there was more variety to upgrades or you had to try harder to get it to kill you.

It's a fun  game (I do love me a good roguelike/lite. I like a lot of the upgrades that both you and the rover get, and how ridiculously difficult the rover can get if you let it snowball. My only complaint is that there are a few visual bugs with rock generation, but that's not something super major for a game made in 4 days. Overall a pretty solid game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying my entry!
All the upgrades are exponential, getting alot of the same upgrade will make that particular stat very high/low.
The rocks aren't randomly generated, I just placed them there manually. In hindsight, generating them procedurally would have been both easier, faster and better in terms of placement.

Well, that was horrifying! Nice take on the theme, really enjoyed the environment. Not my kind of game so I didn't take it too far, but I can appreciate the work gone into it - good job!

Tysm for trying the game either way!

This was honestly exciting, the rover is horrifying! Very immersive with good sound effects.

Super unique. This was fun! Great job!

I thought this was pretty interesting and it runs well, but I had no idea of how to stay alive or get the upper hand against the rover, just kept dying.

Love the concept and style though, good effort fam.

Tyvm!
Now that I think about it, some sort of difficulty slider would not have been very difficult to implement. Something for next time.

Fun dodging and hiding from the rover. Great work!

Definitely the most original of the ones I've played in this jam, so far. Always cool to see a Godot project make it in.

A cool idea that completely reshaped my image of Curiosity, it killed the cat and I'm next. I did run into an issue though, the UI was offset when playing on a 4K monitor (could be a position vs global_position issue?), but was fine when I switched to a smaller one. Other than that, it felt like once the rover got a few upgrades it became nearly impossible to get away unless you managed to spawn far away enough or if the rover tipped over somehow. Great work!

Developer

The UI thing you mentioned is because I was lazy.
I already made all the items and only after decided they were too small, so not wanting to change the size of every single item, I just scaled and positioned the VBoxContainer node that holds all of the scenes. That doesn't work very well if you play a different resolution.
To make it even worse, I used an AnimationPlayer to smoothly interpolate between a negative and positive x axis scale, so I would have to change every keyframe. I designed the game around 1152x648 and did not have time to refactor that entire system.
Thanks for the feedback!

Fore sure the most unique take on the theme that I've seen! Truly a terrifying robot

Developer

Thanks!
You're clearly not the only one afraid of that thing judging by the other comments.
I should've included the red eyes in the cover image in the actual game. Surely that would help!

Wonderful concept, didn't think I would ever be scared of the mars rovers XD

That Rover is gonna show up in my nightmares.

Very cool idea!
