An interesting game that suffers a bit from it's rough edges.

  • The background being not synced with the cabinets kinda confused me for a moment (I thought you could jump on them like a platform).
  • Having multiple characters kinda seems pointless due to the fact you can just spam your energy shot to destroy all obstacles.
  • QTE are a pretty good idea considering that a run rely more and more on reflex as the scroll speed increases. Maybe succeeding a QTE could have destroyed all obstacles in sight as a more rewarding action ?

It remains quite promising for a first submission.

Keep up the good work.

Awesome entry! I‌ don't like the background, it makes me feel a bit dizzy. But the mechanics of the game and the variety of characters are nice. Great job!

This is a very beautiful game. The scrolling was moving much quicker than I anticipated and I found it difficult to find a rhythm of play. I ended up spamming acid and jumping frantically. UI is fantastic and music felt thematic and fun. I always appreciate controller support! This is one of the prettiest games I've played this jam. Really nice work!

Developer

It's a game thought for playing just for a little and we didn't expect to reach much more than 4,000 points, the amount you need to unblock the last one of the critters, so yes, once you surpass this number it gets really crazy. Our highest punctuation is like 7,200 or so, and doing like you, spamming the shoot and jump buttons at the end.

Thank you very much for playing, for your words and for your feedback!

As others have already said, this is very well polished and was really fun to play. I love the main menu and the synchronization between the beat of the music and the animations. Very well done!

Submitted(+2)

Very nice polish and menus! The gameplay is pretty fun, but I have a couple of critiques: 1) it's a little difficult to tell what's an obstacle and what's in the background. And 2) quite often the obstacles are placed so that if you jump over one, you land directly into another, and since the left/right influence is quite weak, it's very difficult to dodge multiple in a row. Anyway, it was still pretty fun, nice entry :)

Developer(+1)

We are aware of this art/design mistakes! We plan to fix them once the jam finishes.

Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

The most stylish game of the jam that I've played thus far. What a fantastic menu. I loved the ambition here, and how it was pretty much achieved. Bubbly music adds so much to the zany art and UI. The progression of obtaining characters with accumulated score? Amazing.

I feel the gameplay programming, including the arc of jump, and the level design are good. The main issue obviously is that the visual design of the level makes no differentiation between what's an obstacle and what's not, nor what's a foreground interactable vs. a background object. As a result, the gameplay at present is mashing the jump button hoping that you successfully hop over an otherwise unidentifiable obstacle that's going to take a heart.

But almost everything else is done right. The character model and animation is beautiful, and the environment is as well. It just needs to be slightly more optimized for understandability.

This is excellent style and premise, however. I hope you guys continue to work on it—I think you have something here.

Wow, thank you for this detail on your comment! All your feedback is highly appreciated!

We will work on it fixing some issues that we have been noticing through your and also others' comments (especially that of the background!) once the jam finishes.

All your words are really encouraging and make us proud about the project we have ended with. Thank you again!

The UI and music are great! Unfortunately during the game I kept dying to something I couldn't see. It's really hard to differentiate between the foreground and background elements. It seems like you were going for a parallax effect, but the background is moving really fast, and the end result is a bit disorienting. The quicktime event felt a bit unnecessary as well, and seemed kind of tacked on. Still I had fun playing for a bit, I think a runner where you can destroy obstacles is a neat idea! Just needs some tweaks to make it more playable. But the art/music and story were all great. Nice work :)

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! It's really useful!

We take notes about all your issues so we can upgrade the game a bit after the jam ends. It's clear for me that the background thing is the most important one!

Thanks again!

Really awesome art!

The menu UI is really cool, and I like the intro music. The gameplay didn’t quite come together for me. Thank you for adding controller support!

Submitted(+2)

Love the graphics, that's an awesome work from your team! I would have appreciated a more "powerful" soundtrack for the game to keep the rythm up, but overall a great experience!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Your feedback is so valuable for me (it's my first time writing for a game like this!), and after playing your game I could definitely understand what you meant by powerful music, it fits your game really well! Good job :) and thanks again for your comment!

Great little game, even though I was awful at it haha. I did struggle with figuring out what was the background and what I had to dodge, but figured it out in the end.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback and your kind words! We will fix the background issue once the jam finishes!

Action-packed game with cool critter characters with nice animations. My only complaint is that the background is the same style and color as the foreground. I'd suggest maybe making the background a bit more faded, desaturated, or blurrier, so that it is easier to read the obstacles especially at high speeds

Developer(+1)

We are aware of the background issue. It didn't seem too much for us at first, but replaying and seeing all your comments, it seems it's quite a mistake. Your suggestion is a very good solution, so we might implement it that way!

Thank you for playing and for your kind words!

This was a neat take on the theme. The balance of shooting or jumping obstacles was nice. It would have been nice if the jumping allowed more control over the height based on how long you held the button, or the analog pressure. I tried using controller to test the analog for jumping, and did not see how to aim other than the mouse.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and your feedback!

We were aware of the jumping (and it's quite a good enhancement to the experience), but not about the aiming issue with controller, so thank you!

Submitted(+2)

Fun game! I dig all the pixel art. Even after playing it for a while, I kept forgetting what could hurt me and I kept trying to jump onto things that were in the background. Overall a fun game with some great artwork and music!

Developer

Yes, the background issue is quite a problem we should have resolved! Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

This game felt so full. It is very impressive what you did.

Cover art is great, it's what got me to click on the game in the first place, sad to see the game world and characters not follow the same color scheme, but that happens with our own game too, so no worries. I think the weakest point of the game is the gameplay, you can just spam click shooting at ground level and you'll always hit all obstacles. Apart from that, the game is fun and the QTEs are a decent way to break the monotony. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Submitted(+2)

Agreed with all these points, the jumping was a bit too aggressive. Really liked the weird characters and the menu. however! Congratz

Developer(+1)

Thank you both for playing!

We were aiming to do a game this simple because it's our first try in Godot. As for the chromatic palette, we designed the game at first to have two levels, so in order to create different biomes, we created different palettes for each level. However, we could only finish one level, so at the end the first level might seem chromatically a little out of place.

As for the jump, we've been also told that, so we will take that into account!

Thank you again!

Submitted(+1)

congratulations on making such a complex game on your first game!

Submitted(+2)

Love it overall, my only issue would be the lack of feedback when hitting something, when the game run fast, sometimes i can't tell if i was hit or not. Also the obstacle blend a bit too much with the background, it seem you have some plateform but i couldn't use any because of the jump controle or speed of the game

Developer

Thank you for all your usability feedback!

It's really precious on the UX design field. We'll be sure to think over those things for our next project!

Submitted(+2)

Soundtrack is really fun and i do like these games where you can kinda go wide-eyed and just enter the zone, But i did find it a little hard to focus on the important bits/obstacles that i was supposed to be avoiding, perhaps the background was moving a bit too fast/distracting?

Either way! I thought it was fun, Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Yes! The background is not very well defined such (because of the colors) and maybe the parallax effect was very aggressive. I think that was our most remarkable mistake in this game (everyone is saying it!).

Thank you for playing and your kind words!

Submitted(+2)

The graphic design is epic and the gameplay is fun. Love the quicktime events. Only critique is that I wish you had variable jump heights so I could control the lil guy better. Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing!

That gameplay feedback is really useful! We were thinking in making a really simple game, since it's our first try with Godot. We will be sure to add more control to all the jumping process in our next platformer.

Hey! Interesting submission, the visuals are really pretty, I loved that.
I think for gameplay, though, the visuals of background and assets had a low differentiation for me, so, I ended up hitting things all the time.
Besides that, the game is fun and the art is superb. Congrats!

Developer

Sorry about the background! I didn't think the color hierarchy  enough while drawing it and that is the result!

Thank you for your feedback and for playing!
