Incredible entry! Very nice compact experience to showcase the gameplay, perfect as a jam entry. Loved the art, story and unique environments. Some of the platforming was a little tricky - I got the hang of it, but sometimes missed smaller platforms because the jumps are quite floaty, so I'd recommend either more precise jumping or stick with the floaty controls but space the platforms a bit more to suit.

Really  awesome entry! Congrats!

Developer

Thank you so much! Im glad you enjoyed the game. I hear you on the movement, its the part that lacks the most. Really appreciate the thoughtful feedback and encouragement, it means a lot!

It's a very fun game. The art style is very beautiful,
and it has a cute black cat!

Thank you so much!

I thought this game had really really great art! I really liked the visual effects you had and you had so many little mechanics. Very very cool. I will say that the movement too me felt a little lacking. It just wasn't as smooth as I would've liked it to be but really really well done beyond that.

Developer

Thank your for your honest opinion, the movement will be the main focus after the jam, once i start working on this project again, thank you for the feedback!

I really like the game and the cool music! Good job!

LoL simple and fun game. I liked the twist at the end. Lack of checkpoints felt frustrated but overall game wasn't that hard anyways. Boss, like the others said, was cheeseable and I don't even know if it's is possible to defeat it without cheesing it. Another thing is, enemies felt a bit harsh and rough to fight, they were not difficult but it felt like they didn't give ma chance to attack them (other than the robot that I need to stun) so I just run past them after a while without engaging in the combat. Other than that really cool and polished game with it's art, sounds and music. Congrats on completing your game.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks a lot for playing and for the detailed feedback! Rally glad you enjoyed the twist and the overall feel of the game.

Yeah, the lack of checkpoints is something I’ve heard a few times, I will definitely keep that in mind for future updates or projects. The boss fight and enemy design could use some tweaking too, so your comments are super helpful there.

Happy to hear the art, sound, and music stood out in a good way! Thanks again , it means a lot!

Without a doubt, this is the most beautiful game out of all the ones I’ve tried in the jam. Congratulations on the amazing artistic design, both in the menu and in the game itself  the menu is definitely my favorite. Those pixel-wave effects drive me crazy (in a good way)!

As for the gameplay, the character’s movement feels a bit clunky, and maybe there could be a bit more visual feedback when the stuns hit the robots. Another thing I’d suggest is adding more checkpoints, because it’s frustrating to die and have to restart almost from the beginning of the level.

That being said, I really enjoyed the game. It felt exquisite, and I played it all the way through. Keep up the great work team, you’ve done an incredible job!

Developer

You are absolutely right that the movement could feel smoother and that clearer feedback on robot stuns along with more checkpoints would make the experience less frustrating. This has also been a common critique from testers, and I will be putting effort into improving these aspects with the ideas you and others have shared so that I can release an even better version of the game in the future.

It really means a lot that you played it all the way through and still had fun despite the rough edges. Thank you again for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback.

That was good one! Cute art style, complated story, fit the theme. Boss fight can be cheesed you can sit on left platform and boss can't reach you except laser but very cool boss design. I have only one complaint, why the flying enemies has that much hp... Good Job!

Developer

Yes ahah, it was intentional so people who got frustrated had a way to cheese the boss. Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Really like the boss fight! tho the movement is too floaty, I also didn't like how when I jump I keep moving towards the direction I am facing, I don't know if that was intentional but it does make the player feel like they can't control their jumps.

Overall,  had a okay time with this, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank your for your suggestions! The movement lacks a lot, that's something I need to keep aj eye on in future games, or maybe if I go forward with this one! Thank you for playing till the end :)

Good concept and insane art !
I died a lot in that acid, so the game clearly leaves an emotional mark (and a physical one for that poor cat), and also a lot due to the flying enemies. So maybe would be nice to add checkpoints or to ease a bit these bombers (I think they are a bit broken to, if you shoot them a bit early, the bomb is not destroyed but it drops a second one immediatly).

For the boss, the battle wasn't long but a bit repetitive, as I was just camping on the left till it died. Yet the boss, as the rest of the game, is gorgeous pixelart and the gameplay is very clean.

The twist is fun, and the whole game is so polished, it's amazing.

PS : my brother is attempting no hit runs, that's not much of a success for now XD

Developer

Yes, the flying enemies were definitely the Al I spent the most time working on, they gave me a lot of trouble during development. Even on the very last day I had to upload a quick fix to correct some of their behavior :) The idea of adding checkpoints has been suggested quite a bit, and I really like it too!

As for the boss, the spot where you could cheese the fight was actually intentional, it's there so that players who got stuck or frustrated could still finish the game if they wante to.

Thanks so much for playing our game! And haha, we'd love to see your brothers hitless run if you manage one ❤️

Amazing game. Amazing Art. Insane Polish. I check your Itch.io profile and you have some insane projects. Mindblown

Developer

Thank you <3

Solid art. Super polished. Amazing atmosphere. Only thing I can add that has not already been repeated is, maybe add some i-frames to the dash? I kept bumping into the enemy thinking I could dash through them XD.

Developer

Thank you for your comment! Yes! I agree, I frames would be such a good idea, even for the boss fight ahah. Thanks for playing our game <3

The movement is too floaty and the boss is too hard for me :(

Developer
Aww, that sucks :(. Yeah, the movement's kinda janky, but I'm super happy you played through it, thanks for playing my game <3

Fantastic and whimsical game, adored the art a whole lot! I found the story really charming and I'm a huge fan of the twist. Super cute! Though I'm unsure if this is a user error, but I wish the flashlight could be used for more things. In the third level, a lot of the pixels also inconveniently got in the way of my (the player) movement and frankly it was a bit frustrating. The boss I feel the exhaustion window could be a bit longer, and maybe make the attacks feel more interactive, especially considering how the player already has the option to dash/blink. You (the player) can kind of just stand in the far left side of the screen above ground and shoot slightly upwards and basically be free of any damage whilst continuously doing damage. It was just a bit underwhelming considering how much trouble the other enemies gave me.

Overall I loved the game, I love the graphics a lot! The pixel style is incredibly well made and I think that it definitely played a big part in the game's identity.

Developer

Thank you so much for this amazing comment!

It’s not really a user error, we designed the lanterns to stun the platform robot, adding a little “puzzle” element to the game. You’re totally right though, it would be a great idea to reuse this mechanic for other enemies.

As for the boss, I completely understand. We originally added the platform so the player could escape the attacks, but when we realized it could be used to “cheese” the boss, we decided to leave it in and even turn it into a kind of “tip” for players who might get frustrated or stuck in the boss fight. Just like how you can run past enemies and clear the levels. (Though in hindsight, that ended up being a mistake on my part, as you can see from some of the reviews, we’re definitely learning from this, hahah)

Thank you again for playing my game and for leaving such an expressive comment! ❤️

Very impressive art! For a 10 day project it's beautiful. Although I got stuck with the following robot I couldn't figure out how to jump over them. Would've been nice to have some checkpoint so I don't have to redo the whole level all the time.

Developer

Thank you for your comment, there is a lot of areas i need to improve in the future, thank you for playing my game :D

look very good for a game made within ten day. I like it

Thank you!

Wow, the artstyle is stunning!

Visuals and music/sound design are great. The menus are creative and intuitive. The narrative is also good and I really liked the twist.

Some minor things:
-The cable puzzle doesn't communicate that you need extra parts to progress, if you try it at the very beginning it's easy to think that you're just not solving it correctly.

-At the start of level 2, if you go left, you fall infinitely and have to restart

-If you stand at the top platform and stand in the edge of the screen, none of the boss' attacks hit you.

Developer

Thank you! I’m really glad you played all the way to the end and enjoyed the story, it was a passionate project for me and my team. Regarding the smaller details, I completely agree with you on those three points. As for the boss one, that was actually intentional, we wanted to give players who found it difficult a way to “cheese” the fight and still make progress. Thanks!

Wow, I don't know what to say other than great job!
The visuals and levels were so good!
The music was phenomenal!

Okay I lied I can say quite a bit, inspired by happycrazywild's comment haha

Story:

It's rather late at night so I didn't take the time I'd normally take to read all of the lore and in-game pop ups. In my 5-10 Minutes of playing through the game, I understood:
[Spoilers]
- Incoming asteroid, cat scientist wants to save the world. I see a lot of weird dia/monologue, e.g. "save us" and in the end we escape earth with a space rocket, saving birds (?). I neither understood the bird part, nor the connection to the theme. You did hint at it, I guess it wasn't obvious enough for me (playing at 1am).

Gameplay:

The character controller is generally nice, horizontal movement is very stiff. Together with no real checkpoints (which happycrazywild mentioned), I died multiple times to the acidic level where you jump upwards to the left because of the odd movement.

(Screenshot)

I do have to say that the music in especially this part is a real 10/10, no glaze!

Regarding enemies, I find these speedsters too strong. My strategy was to dash above their heads and let them bounce me to the right (- damaging me)

I found the boss fight to be too easy, having read the tip on it on the page, while waiting for the game to load.

Issues/Bugs:

In addition to what was mentioned by others, I am not sure whether the music volume slider works. It didn't in the main menu. Not too bad a bug though.

Visuals:

Did bro sleep in those 10 days?? 😭 I was constantly questioning whether the game was really made entirely during the jam, for the visuals are f- great. Cudos to you artist, you deserve first place in visuals for this jam!

Vibe:

I love it, I love it, I love it.  I include ambiance and music in here, they're perfect!

I can guarantee this game will be ranked in the top 10%, is has been my favorite so far!

Kindly,

Tidali of Crowfox ;)

SPOILER

Artist’s response: I really appreciate the compliment and also the concern. Don’t worry, I’ve been sleeping relatively well these days lol, I was just excited (and had some boring college classes). Just to be safe, we recorded the entire artistic and programming process over these 10 days so there would be no doubts about the period it was done hehe. Once again, thank you so much, it makes me extremely happy that you played and enjoyed our game, and even happier with the constructive feedback you gave. Thank you!

My response:  Yeah, the movement is definitely the part that needs the most improvement xD. I’m really glad you enjoyed playing our game, it was probably our best project so far.

We tried to make it clear to the player that you are the savior of Earth, promising everyone that you would destroy the asteroid. In the end, the twist is that you were actually lying and just gathered all the funding to escape the planet. The birds were a small addition to make the game more interesting, and they also add impact to the twist (since you’re not really saving the world, but actually saving the birds. That’s why the title changes from SAVE THE WORLD to SAVE THE BIRDS at the end.)

As for the music slider, I totally forgot to change the bus to MUSIC in the main menu and in two of the levels.

Thank you so much for this amazing review and for playing all the way to the end, even late at night!

Great game! The amount of content for such a short time is super impressive, and really creative too! The art is great as well, so big kudos to whoever the artist was!

If I had to give critiques, I would say the platforming controls/feel could be a little tighter, and checkpoints on each screen/every few screens could be helpful! But really amazing work overall!

Developer

Thank u! Im glad you enjoyed my game, yes i totally agree with you

This is a high-level game. like on STEAM.
how did you make such an "ENTER FULLSCREEN" button? did you edit the html file after the build? I did this once, and then I forgot how.

Developer(+1)

You can add one in the edit game on itch io!
