visuals were very interesting, gameplay though felt a b1t lackluster at times... feels like ur missing a b1t of game juice and polish.

the info dump at the start was way too much, not to mention the visual clutter. I would suggest simplifying it.. or just let the gameplay be the tutorial for ur game considering how simple it was.

Really awesome and creative idea! I love the narrative fit of the bus and the changing musical themes as characters. The art is great, the game’s a total vibe. I had a hard time understanding and playing the individual rules of the characters though. In any case, really cool concept, would love to play a polished version :)

Developer

Thanks a lot ! Motivates me to do a post-jam version :D

Oh, I’m really bad at these kinds of games, but the music is great and it's still a lot of fun!

Developer

Thanks!

If the public bus was this groovy I would never take my car... What a neat concept, it was a lot to take in at first! Once I understood the controls and how to get those passengers on board, I was in the groove!

The variety of characters included is very impressive during this short jam time frame. My favorite right now is Zajj, that miss recovery came in super handy for me LOL. Giving each character their own riff/section in the song was very thoughtful and worked seamlessly. Clever way to show off your range of skills. Super well done, I had a great time playing!

Developer

Thanks a lot ! Reading your comment made me super happy :D
Haha yes I wish the public bus was this groovy to.
Zajj is definitively the most tolerant :P

The base track goes so hard — pretty sure I lost a few passengers from vibing too much :')
I'd make a great bus driver.
The rhythm feels super natural and fun to follow. Would love to see more tracks in the future.
The game’s concept is great and the little guys are adorable! Some of the obstacle silhouettes could be a bit clearer though. And yeah, the tutorial was a lot all at once — not a huge deal, just a bit much at the start. Overall, really fun stuff!

Developer (1 edit)

Haha you’d make a cool bus driver I’m sure.

Yes the concept could be expended with new styles or sub-styles, new power ups, levels, even bus.

I agree for the silhouettes obstacles, I struggled to make it pop (pun intended) more than than.

Thanks a lot!

holy crap this is awesome. the only little complaint i have is that the tutorial opened up and i felt overwhelmed, but i mean, i just took a step back and read things for a few minutes until i got it. all the combinations of musicians sound so good, and i was pleasantly surprised when i picked up the dude who actually sings! there's a good amount of stuff to keep track of too: the beat, the road, and picking up the musicians.

Developer

Thanks a lot ! :D Yep a lot of people felt that way and I agree there are definitely improvements to make towards the pacing of the tutorial. And I’m really happy it sounds good to your hear because that was a big part of the process

Submitted(+1)

yeah! i pay a lot of attention to the music in these games because im a musician lol, and this one had me smiling throughout because all the combinations just sounded SO good and catchy.

What a masterpiece! I love the music, the game idea, the art. EVERYTHING. It is addicting as well as so much fun! Took me a while to get use to the controls, as using Enter AND Mouse for the tutorial was (I guess) not the best choice... Still: 5/5

Developer(+1)

Thanks a bunch! :D Warms my heart. I agree, there are definitely some things to review about the tutorial and/or controls

Amazing visuals, lovely characters and cool music!

The music system is a whole game in itself. Really impressive <3

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot <3 Especially about the music system, I put my heart (and sweat) into it :D

Very cool man. Tutorial threw a LOT at me, but otherwise very fun

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah, good notice, I definitely have to work on that ’:D I find it hard to convey information without overwhelming the player. Maybe it should be more “one info at a time” and less “TAKE ALL THESES INFORMATIONS GOOD LUCK” :P

Submitted(+1)

hey man no worries, we had one week lol. I did the same in my game XD

Developer(+1)

True that but I’m still taking notice for future games :)

Submitted(+1)

What a nice polished game. Was fun to play.
A single mouse click for making them sit in the bus would have been better i think.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah it’s debattable, some friend told me that he would have prefered that you actually have to drive near them and push a button for example. But I liked the drag’n’drop (also have spent way too much time making it smooth so it was hard not to include this mechanic :D)

Submitted(+1)

Suuper fun! I was garbage at it, but I loved having to pay attention at two different things at the same time, it make it super hectic. I loved the musing and sound design in general too!

Developer

Thanks a lot ! Glad you enjoyed it :D

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game! Liked a lot to discover the various instruments the Beatwalkers have :D

Submitted(+1)

Liked the game! Solid rhythm game.

Developer

Thanks!

Really chaotic game XD

I like it XD

it's hard to keep the beat while avoiding stuffs but it's really fun to play it that way XD

Developer(+1)

Hey, glad you liked it ! Yes it takes a bit of time to get a hand of it :D Did you manage to reach the end still?

Submitted(+1)

I did ^^

in the end I only managed to use 1

power up each time instead of 3

because I need to focus on dodging XD

Developer(+1)

Haha nice, I’m happy you made it !

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed the concept, the art was very nice too! A little confusing at first, but I had lots of fun :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks :) Glad to hear you had fun :D Yes I tried my best to explain on tutorial but I guess you have to play it a few times to get it. And there’s a lot happening indeed.

Submitted(+1)

1bit artstyles always distract from complex stressful games LOL. I loved it! Such a unique concept to have so many things to keep track of. The beat was super good and simple enough to always keep track of while still providing enough challenge with balancing the different guys you want. Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Yes, this style gives an impression of this “cute lil’ game” and then it breaks your bone xD I put a lot of thoughts into difficulty/balancing, so i’m glad to hear that! Thanks a lot :)

Submitted(+1)

Love the art and the pat-your-belly / rub-your-head gameplay. Trying to track the different dudes with their powers was a little too much cognitive load for me. Music slaps!

Developer

Yes, the BeatWalker mechanic is what makes it unique but also what makes it really hard. Some people reported it was a little too mch for them and I can get that.

Thanks !

Submitted(+1)

This was so cool and inspiring. Love the music and the whole is premise is really creative.

Curious if you used Godot’s new AudioStreamSynchronized for getting the tracks to line up. 10/10.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a bunch!

Erhh I didn’t and that’s probably a good idea but I think I stuck with my I know. The way it works is 11 sound players (10 styles + 1 base track) always playing and then the volume goes up or down, that way it’s always synchronized. And I had audio latency compensation issue to settle anyways.

The thing AudioStreamSynchronized could have helped with is probably just doing “loops” of 8 beats instead of a full track, but then again I had problem where when it was looping it just broked everything since the code is so tight to the beat (and since it’s so spaghetti too) :P

Anyways, will defintely look into that though !

Submitted(+1)

Sounds awesome! I got around 34,000 after 3 tries. The ending surprise is definitely worth it too.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I say we add the frog from your game in my game in the post jam :D
