Dear Pirates,

THANK YOU, everyone for participating in the Pirate Jam Pre-Jam Skirmish! Your creativity, cunning, and comedy are all very much appreciated. For the review process I sat down with Martin (FontLord) and co-played each and every submission. This process took us many hours and went late into the evening but contained a lot of laughs, "What?!" "Wows" and other fun moments. We probably should have livestreamed it. D'arrrg.

Here's a link to the results: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/127N9hwlL2VLiYo9WikEDQTA9T9ivY1HODYvvf19v...

Contained here you'll find "Notes" which is just a quick selection of some of the scribbles made during the review of each game. It's not exhaustive, professional, or meant to signify much - mainly just there to show that real humans spent real time to play and evaluate each and every game. Please try not to take offense at our notes as all were made with love and appreciation for the effort everyone put forth.

If you were "Scuttled" then, sadly, you won't take home any physical prizes. But you will carry forever a heap of Piratey Appreciation from Captain American and a promise that if you're ever in distress at sea ... I'll send my fleet of pirate ships to save you (or quickly put you out of your misery - depends on the situation). Thank you, for participating!

If you got an "Arr!" in any other column then we want to mail you physical goodies. That means you'll need to email us your shipping details. Send name, address, phone number, and any other information relevant to delivering packages to your location - and we'll mail out your loot. Use this email address:

support (at) mysterious (dot) design

Tumbleweed Typo Hunter - Avast ye, matey! Blimey! Ye done won! Assuming you are available and able to travel to Pirate Jam 2020 during the early part of March, 2020... then we'll be seeing you in Thailand soon. Same thing - email us (address above) and we'll make arrangements.

If TTH can't make it then we'll select an alternate from the Runners Up.

Note On Delivery Timing: We're heading into Chinese New Year here in China. The entire country shuts down for several weeks - that includes the shipping services we use. And I'm heading to Thailand for 3-weeks of sailing - starting tomorrow. That means we won't start shipping rewards until the start of February. But when we do we'll ship via our usual services - that means E-Packet with tracking which arrives in most locations around the world in 15~20 days.

Other questions and feedback? Let us know! Martin is sticking around Shanghai during the holiday and will respond as needed.

From Shanghai with Arrrrg,

-American

Hi there

On the main Jam page, scroll down to this rule...
Grand Prize and Runner Up Prizes awarded one (1) to a team.

So yeah just 1 'prize' per submission.

Next time (if there is a next time), it might be simpler to use Google Forms rather than having folks email, and then having to copy/paste things to a spreadsheet. Google Forms is fast and simple to set up, and automatically puts everything into a spreadsheet for you. (No, I'm not affiliated with Google)

Wow, that was fast! I thought the 4 days for rating was when the deadline was supposed to be.

Thanks for hosting an amazing jam! One day I'll make it it to the Caribbeans to jam with you guys!!!! <3

It says on the main page regarding prize selection: "The Grand Prize winner and Runner Up prize winners will be selected by host and support staff. " And I had to get it done fast because I'm prepping to go off sailing for three weeks!

Don't know about the Caribbeans... Pirate Jam happens in Thailand ;)

Submitted

Metaphorically Caribbeans :P But yes Thailand :)

Ahoy and avast! Thanks again for everything!

Thanks for the opportunity.

If the comments taught me anything it's that I need to be more verbose with my instructions and hints, I always have a tendency to assume something is obvious, when it may not be, because I created it.

Hopefully I get another chance next year and I'll be sure to add better instructions xD

Thank you for hosting this jam!! We had a ton of fun making The Tavern and really appreciate the feedback!

Thank you for hosting this wonderful jam! I had a lot of fun making "Trasure Miceland", despite having started a day late XD.

I don't know how much did you played my game, but in the notes you wrote you said "Weak connection to theme (never found treasure or bounty). Clean execution but feels overly simplistic without goals or destination." but the thing is that the game does have a treasure and a goal (despite being incomplete in everything else)... so I feel a bit baffled by that.

Jam Judge(+1)

I quite enjoyed Miceland in a retro way.
The low colour platforming gave me the feels of when I used to play New Zealand Story on the Spectrum   :)
But I "think" I dug out an entire level and found no chest, only floating coins.
Still, not too shabby   :)

Submitted

I think the idea is to collect all the coins, then find the newly spawned treasure map which will reveal the treasure chest

I definitely recommend giving it another shot if you have a chance just to check it out! It's a bigger game than expected

Submitted

Yeah, that's it! It's in the instructions XD

Thank you!

Submitted

Thank you for your words.

All the 3 levels have a treasure chest, but is my bad for not putting instructions in-game. The objective is to take all the coins, then a map appears, which when collected makes the treasure chest appear... I tried to make it clear, but I see that I completely failed doing that XD

Submitted

Thanks for the jam guys! I'll get me a coin next year just you wait.

Help!
It says that my entry, Lost Treasure, was scuttled because you can't run or move.

But when I run the game, everything works fine... And it worked for everyone else....

Submitted

the same happened for my entry too

Submitted

With my entry it also looks like they took a cursory glance and if anything wasn't immediately noticeable it was assumed to not exist. My reviews are all quite positive and the enemies are definitely spawning but they were under the impression that there weren't any. I'm going to take it as a note that I need to make my mechanics much more obvious and not to expect the player to read a wall of text.

Awesome!

Yay!

Thanks for this event. This was my first game jam and it was a rewarding experience. I learned a ton making my entry, and through the whole process.

As a cherry on top you give away all these fantastic prizes. Not to mention getting your game reviewed by a pro like American.

This thing could grow to be big,1000 entrees next year.

What a great jam, I can’t believe our little game did as well as it did! This was a huge learning experience and I’m really glad we participated. Such a great jam with so many great entries, well done everyone! Thanks to everyone who played and rated.  Thanks to American for setting this up and playing our game!
