Excellent. I love it! Text, setup, graphics, details, lifecycle - everything is delightful.
A great little module about a dumpling restaurant with a secret. The art is great and fits the theme of the module perfectly, and the layout presents the information clearly. The little parenthetical location descriptions perfectly set the vibe in a very concise manner (while also being funny), allowing the majority of the text to provide gameable information.
I would have loved a little bit of guidance on the timescale for when the Taotei has consumed enough to give live birth to another. I also found it a bit odd to have Uncle Bao be host to a hundun - if he had been running the restaurant for a while being a host, surely he would have died by now. If I was running it, I would probably change it so he was still an active alcoholic, which provides an additional hint that alcohol keeps you safe.
Chef’s Kiss!
This is a fantastic mix of form and function! my only knocks were:
- i think you should move the “How to Use this Scenario” on to panel 2. As it is now i didn’t read it until the very last thing and I think that having in your head “okay this is how i’m going to use this” while reading the locations and the monsters helps to frame things for maximum results.
- and this is a very small thing, but i think you should move the Map to the middle of the spread (swap it from panel 3 to panel 4.) as it stands now I looked over the locations in the map then read about them, rather than read about them then saw them…
again those are the TINYEST of knitpicks, and its honestly more to have something to say than anything else.
Congrats, Xiaofang! you made something very Rad! and a very good contender for my personal favorite that i’ve seen so far, and a high bar to overcome! (about 1/3rd through reviews at the time of writing)
Very clear! The art elevates an already awesome trifold. Excellent graphic design, and an intricate, but wholly understandable, monster-of-the-week!
This is so good! The mix of cutesy and horror fits perfectly. I love all the advice you included on the back for how to run in an ongoing campaign versus a one shot. The room descriptions are so usable but also very tightly written! Reading the stat blocks and the Taotei lifecycle was a joy.
(+) A solid premise veiled by a seemingly ordinary and humble setting; a strong example of delivering a simple premise with upmost polish and clarity
(+) Very stylish and eye-catching pop art, with great stylization of 3d models, while keeping things clean and easy to read
(+) Easy to understand and set up structure with several avenues to plug the scenario into any off-shore encounter and offering various paths to discover the horror within
Knocked it out of the park! One that goes straight on my 'got to run this' list.
