Yeehaw, good lil' thin' you have brought pardner.
The main mechanic is just so cool. Maybe too cool? LIke, have you seen Spread + Homing + Explosive? This is like the most broken combo that fires 5 shots of death for the price of one.
The main idea is very cool, just a bit of a waste to have such a short level to execute it but that's just how a Jam is.
Lookie here pardner, I've featured this game in my presentation video:
https://youtu.be/bFHWSZ1BOBw?t=7389
A neat setting, fun story, but the gameplay is impressive! I've never seen combined shot types like that.
Aww, the biggest downside to this one is that it ends too quickly, I would love to see more levels. The gameplay feels great with feedback and whatnot (awesome use of the theme by the way), and the writing, art, and music really fit the comedic western setting. If there was one mechanical flaw, it was that I immediately nuked Yuyuko (and most things) in one shot with an overabundance of every ammo type. ...But it was also fun(ny), so not a big deal.
(for context: my favorite game is monolith and if you don't know that, it is a twin-stick shooter rouge-lite with a weapon modifier mechanic similar to your combining bullet mechanic)
I really Enjoy the game, especially the bullet combining. I does provide the same feeling with monolith once you found a gun with OP modifiers. I just wish it was longer with some more tanky enemies since combining all absolutely shreds everything.
Like noeticnightjar said, the game could use some balancing. the boss don't stand a chance if you combined all billets and you won't stand a chance if your bullet combination does not have enough DPS. maybe you can try adding a bullet combination limit to 3 or 4. Either way I wound be happy to see this game gets expanded (or turned into a rouge-lite), also I second Karod's laser bullet suggestion.
if you want bullet modifier reference I highly recommend checking out monolith, it is such an underrated rouge-liteloaded every type of shot into the gun at once and yuyuko died in two shots gg
Like the idea of this, though the shottypes could probably use some balancing - I felt like bouncing + spread (+ explosive) was pretty much all I needed to solve my problems; pierce was somewhat useful for going through boxes but the boxes are destroyed by regular shots pretty quickly already (and can be circumvented by bounce shots - maybe piercing would have more utility if it pierced through enemies as well?), and homing has enough of a curve on it that I had to stand at pretty precise positions to get it to hit enemies around corners.
Similarly the balancing on the bossfight was such that it either went one way or the other - on my first playthrough, I deleted Yuyuko's health so quickly that she didn't have a chance to start attacking, then on a second playthrough, I refrained from firing for a few seconds to see what her patterns looked like only to find that she spawned too many/densely packed rockets to dodge and was deleted before I could do any damage.
Sound effect/VFX on the regular/nonexplosive shots made them feel somewhat underpowered, though the explosive shot SFX/VFX and knockback on the enemies when they're defeated was good.
hohohohohooooollllyyy shit one of the best games ive seen
We can describe the firing options as overkill when you pick them all, killed yuyu in one single shot xD.
Very neat, I felt that this could be a nice full fledged game at some point.
Better sprites, harder enemies, more soundtrack and you got it, a 10 in my list.
I'd love to see an expansion of this.
And laser ammo.
It was really fun! I really liked the visuals and the concept. It would be more fun if a player had to use some combos in certain places, but it was really interesting to combine bullets just like that.
Loved this! I like the arcade style a lot, reminds me of Gun Smoke and Sunset Riders. I think everything has good feedback and the controls feel great, the dialogue is funny too (tiny guns lol)
I love this as a concept. Many of the different combinations feel OP to use (in a good way), and lets the players express themselves by picking their own approach. It felt downright evil to combine spread + homing against poor Yuyuko.
If the game was longer, I would have given it a very high rating, but I feel that there unfortunately isn't enough content. Just one proper boss fight would have been enough to satisfy me. Still a top notch concept and use of the theme, though.
I do like the concept! maybe a bit op to clear a level with ricochet + spread (or boss with explosive on top) but hey that was fun
could this be!? the legendary "seihou touhou", "western eastern"!?
i likey the rootin tootin shootin. yuyuko dies really fast to 2345 shot but stage is the best
This was a lot of fun. I combined all five bullet types into
PotionBullet of Explode Your Boss and it was an absolute thrillShooters with no reload times are what dreams are made of. Nice use of atmospheric tileset. Nothing much else to say here except, pretty well-rounded game.
That's quite good, I like concept of combining shot types come at cost of... well, shooting cost. Gun pattern on Yuyuko fan is just pure gold, worthy of Gungeon.
Excellent concept with a nice engine and some surprisingly good writing. This one begs for expansion and I hope you consider doing so in the future.
ok, the combination of ammo types is really interesting, but the level design and enemies didn't make that much of a challenge worthy of such an amazing weapon...and the ammo types working on a number limit made it too interesting to just spam the default ammo(that can also be fired too fast)…maybe an cooldown system would make the player want to spend the different ammo types more often. (i defeated Yuyuko with 3 shots, combining spread, homing, and explosive)
overall a very fun concept!
also....There are no trains in Gensokyo!
