I really can't fully describe how this made me feel. "Hauntingly beautiful" comes closes, but it still feels like that fails to fully encompass everything. I can only say this a masterpiece in my eyes. And it's a first project even? Like freaking hell, that's impressive!

This had such an immersive atmosphere and the story pulls you in with a touching mystery. Also, I love how you can play with the little lights floating about.

Hauntingly beautiful ❤️ The art, the writing and the atmosphere were all top notch. Amazing job!

thankyousomuchimjustsohappyyoulikedit ;-;
"hauntingly beautiful" is the whole vibe of what i intended so i just ;-; thank you again <33

A really tender and beautifully wistful game! You've made really good use of the few graphics, and the tarnished gold and black color schemes and music add to that wonderfully. The endings I got felt strong, and the theme potent. Great job all around!!

Developer(+1)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh thankyouthankyouthankyou ;-;

i am a puddle of tears no one look at me ;-;

This game was so, so beautiful! It's short enough to be sweet but long enough to fully understand the story and what's going on! I really loved the slow realization of who the main character was. The art was beautiful and the story was even more beautiful! I haven't gotten all the endings yet but I just know I'll need to play this amazing game again to see everything!

Developer(+1)

thank you!! ;-; i was worried about pacing cause it's one of my writing shortcomings, but my co-writer is absolutely amazing with it and his work just really made it so much better, and i'm just so glad that you found the game beautiful ;-; thank you again <3

The ambience, atmosphere, and art style are just a masterpiece ❤ I didn’t get all the endings, but it was a good experience. GG ❤

Developer(+1)

ahhhhhhhh thank you!! ;-; i hope the endings you got felt satisfying on their own <33

Submitted(+1)

I think you really nailed the ambience. The characters are very beautiful. As someone who works with mouse and keyboard daily, I’d very much appreciate an auto play button, my finger was hurting after so much clicking. Very powerful illustrations. Nice job with those lines!

Developer(+1)

oh no!! i'm sorry about the constant clicking! auto is a built-in feature of naninovel, but i removed it since i was worried how it would interact with the endings - i'm planning on updating the game with some of the feedback i've gotten, and i'll include this one!!

but thank you so much ;-; ambience was definitely one of my key focuses, esp for a limited environment & i'm just so stoked it works ;-;

The ambiance of it all, it's such a sad yet beautiful love story. I remember seeing you work on animations so close to the deadline in DevTalk and was worried about how you'd pull it off but you did it! And it's so jaw droppingly beautiful. I'm in love with the limited color palette as well, it fits the story so much.

Developer

ahh! i was pretty vocal about my game progress wasn't i lmao
the animations were a stretch goal for me! but i got the main game completed in time so i did it! :D i'm still stoked i didn't have to scope knife that aspect, and i'm so glad working on them was worth it if you think they're beautiful ;-;

thank you again for your compliments and giving your time ;-; brb i'm gonna go cry

Impossibly precious, gorgeous, atmospheric, and beautifully sad. I loved every single minute of it.  Deer Skull Guy is now my personal ride-or-die. Thank yous all around to the team for making my evening bittersweet and perfect! 💚

 we love deer skull guy in this house, he only wants the best for you <3

This is so atmospheric. I like the moody interface, the handdrawn feel… Great great use of limited assets, you set the tone just right. Normally I’d say this size of text at the bottom of the screen while the center pane shows largely nothing feels weird, but the emptiness works very well here. And when the art shows, it’s so very, very good! The writing is done very well too. There’s music in it, beautifully poetic, and surreal. This is one of my favorite entries so far. Thank you for your work! I’m keeping this to show my friends.

My only criticism is the hover effect on the menu buttons are really really subtle, so coupled with how small they are, it can be difficult to make out which button is being hovered on. For a longer game, I would prefer a clearer visual cue (but this one is short enough it doesn’t feel bad). It would be nice to have an option to enlarge the text.

Developer

ahhhhh thank you!! surreal and poetic were definitely the vibes i was going for, so i'm so happy it came through ;-;

and thank you so much for the much-needed feedback - those menu buttons are definitely not responsive enough, i love super responsive buttons so that's one of the facets of this game i'd like to change (as soon as i find out how to make naninovel play nice with unity animations lmao) but i'm super stoked that you liked the atmosphere and tone, thank you so much again for playing ;-; i'm taking all of your feedback to heart to make any future games i make better <33

Submitted(+1)

Wow. This is simply beautiful. The music and the art style create a kind of melancholy feeling which fits perfect with the story. It's a short and well rounded experience!

Good job you guys that was really good! c:

Developer

thank you so much!!! ;-; i'm just so glad the emotion comes through - thank you again for playing <33

OOOOh boy what a game! Ill start off with more technical side of things because Im very familiar with unity and you might appreaciate that side of things, also im happy to finally see another unity game in this jam so yeah! The main menu is very pretty, great aesthetics, very minimal, it works well. I would recommend adding a confirmation menu to the leave button, similar to the one you use for deleting saves. The credits should close in the main menu when you open other menus, or maybe just have a stronger transparency for the menus to avoid seeing text on top of each other. I do love that I have all these customisations at my fingertips in the settings, compared to a lot of games with only 1 or 2 options this is very nice that youre making use of them. The preview for text speed is a nice touch, I've never used nani novel so some of this might just end up being me complimenting the engine but whatever you guys programmed is also stellar work. When loading into the game, id suggest making the audio source for music persist since its the same song, alternatively a fade in/out could work nicely to avoid it sound a bit janky. Lastly on the technical side of things, I noticed your sliders arent correctly set up, you have the image squashing/stetching instead of being masked away when dragging, its a little thing but if you set it up right it looks wayyy better!

Moving on to the actual game now. The in game ui, very pretty and stylized, I would appreaciate an auto button as someone who likes to sit back and drink while reading but its okay to not have it. I will warn following parts might be spoilery but im keeping it minimal. I love the design for the skeleton boy, if your artist doesnt mind, id love to use his art for one of my dnd campaigns. He is so cool and I love him. It was weird for me to notice how quickly I just sort of went almost like stockholm syndrom and wanted to stay with him. It was great story telling to make me attached to a character so quickly, the feeling of being lost on my own was great, wanting to know more of what was going on until the end. Usually i dont like overly static characters, but your use of having him turn around constantly was really good, i was so immersed, walking the long path with him was so nice. I liked the way the CGs flowed as well! The music as well is so nice, it compliments the game perfectly!

There hasn't been many visual novels but I applaud you for immersing and investing me into this game so quickly, I was hooked within the first few lines. Great work, I love you, give me skele boy.

Developer(+1)

thank you so incredibly much for this thought out and much-needed feedback, literally everything i hoped for
for the technical side, naninovel does a lot of the features! i can't take credit for a lot of the customization options in the settings, but i'm still gonna take your feedback about loving them & plan to code my own versions of those features for a separate game im working on :D
diligently taking notes on your comments about the fade in for the music in loading and the sliders (WHICH BTW THANK YOU THOSE SLIDERS WERE THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE FOR LIKE A DAY so dear god ty, i'm silly for not doing a mask)

and for the game side, i'm actually the artist! :D you can DM me on discord abt using his art! <3 and thank you so much for your compliments about the writing and story, i was worried about the limits i was forcing myself to do with the assets so i'm stoked that it wasn't too immersion-breaking looking at the same thing for a while!!

thank you again for your feedback, taking it to heart <3

Can you just, like, inject more of this type of Gothic wilderness horror romance directly into my veins, I need it to thrive.  Thanks, loved the game.  <3
