Great game! Fits well with the theme, and controls were nice and easy to pick up!

Developer

Thank you glad you enjoyed the game :)

Amazing Game! It really matches the theme,  music and art style is so nice.

but most of the time i didn't really know where to go until i fail at something and lose a lot of time, overall it's extremely fun and would play again!

Developer

Thanks really valuable critique will take into account for post game jam version :)

Fun! I'm not too good at skate games but I had fun while trying lol. The graphics are nice and the sound design is enjoyable. I liked the level design & building up speed. Awesome!

I actually played it a bit before the jam ended, but now I had the time to finish it!

Great jam entry! Gameplay-wise the mechanic was really solid and simple to learn, level design was cool, and it really seemed a great game to speedrun to. It definitely wasn't as punishing as the other 99% games of the jam (mine included haha) but that's fine by me since I'm a bit of a potato player.

A personal note about the game being "Foddian" : I don't think this game could be more Foddian without seeming unfair,  since platforms have quite a bit of a distance between each other and sometimes you simply can't see where you must go, so there are some "leap of faith" moments that if you ended up back at the beginning, it would feel like the player had no control whatsoever (since they didn't know where to land previously). Not that the "leap of faith" is bad per se since the game don't punish you, so the player understands that they must go "as fast as possible" - but if you ever want to make this game feel more Foddian, I think adding a  "zoomed-out" camera when the player gets to a long-shot platform would help them understand the risks of the jump. As it is, I think the game is totally fine, and you definitely made the right call in not making the game more punitive.

Also, I liked all the background musics!

Really great game, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thanks you for your in-depth reponse a glad you liked the game.

I think you overall assessment is fair and balanced. I have been thinking about how I'd make it more foddian and fair. I think having the camera scale it's FOV and look ahead with your current speed  would be one way, as you once you're doing that leap of faith you have more time to  see your landing.

I think the difficulty with this compared to other Foddian game is that we really leaned heaby into the momentum theme from a physical definition and stand  point, where you constantly have to manage the change of speed making the game very dynamic which adds to the core game feel that makes it fun.

I Liked you idea of a zoomed out camera though when you approach a long jump as I think it'd make you  feel small as a player as well and add to the feeling of being a daredevil skater, so if you don't mind I might steal that hahaha.

This was really valuable feedback and insight cheers :)

Submitted(+1)

Not stealing at all, you got full credits for the great game hahaha. I'm just glad the feedback was useful!

Cheers, and good luck developing it further! It's something I'd like to see on the Itch.io featured page!

Developer(+1)

Cheers man let's see what we can do in our free time ;)

I loved the art and the animations, they are super well done. I would have liked more skill expresiveness (Having more skips or places to do cool stuff) but I can't figure out how the leaderboard times are that low so maybe there was and it's on me not realizing. It would also be cool if it rewarded doing tricks, which is kind of a staple of the skateboarding genre, and I almost didn't fell at all which didn't feel very true to the foddian genre, but it's overall super solid and polished and there's still a lot of potential to build upon. I also definitely liked the music a lot

Developer

Hey glad you enjoyed the Game, I don't know how some people got the scores either it seems that there is a meta building up around the game on how to abuse the physics to gain enough speed to skip areas.
I agree that the game should have been a bit harder, we didn't want it to be as brutal as some other games but we didn't want it to be easy either for beginners.  We thought getting used to the mechanics to clear obstacles would had been harder ahaha and for games jams I tend to air on the slightly easier side as to not gate keep the experience and intended goal. But from people comments I can see we made it too easy for a Foddian.

I got a list future ideas if we were to build on it and a trick system for coolness factor is definitely a priority. It was something we wanted in, but again time :)

Submitted

It was fun! I like the difficulty spike near the beginning, after getting use the controls and getting past that point the rest was a smooth ride. I like the skater dude animations and trail effect.

I would like to see maybe in a future version is like another indicator of progress (other than the platform color change), was a little unsure if I made progress after flying far at a few jump points.

I got a good 7min 18sec for my first record!

Developer

Really happy you liked our game!

We were going to add different parallax backgrounds for the different stages but ran out of time. We definitely tried to make the beginning a lot easier to intro the player to the controls, but I think the overall feedback is that the game was too easy. SO might have to crank that difficulty curve waaaay up in the future.

Submitted

This game is perfection! Never played a skating game but now I get the appeal

I love that its actually not too hard to beat, so I tried a couple times til I got on the main menu leaderboard. Great music too

Developer

Oh man thank you that's high praise, glad you liked it.

You beat the other developer ;)

A nice little skating game.

Not as punishing as some of the other games I played, but the jumps were sometimes a little disorienting because the platforms are far apart and the camera too close.
A background that showed some kind of environment or a pattern would have been very helpful.

I really liked the music but didn't see it in the credits. Do you have a link to the tracks/artist?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hey thanks for playing our game,

Agree with the camera (you should have seen how it initially was) I am thinking of ways to best  let the player know where they are going next, but for a Jam a few signs here there would have to do haha.
We also wanted some parallax background, but neither of us are artist and getting everything else looking decent in the game was already pretty tough.

The music is from youtube's free Audio library, I will post it on the game page soon. The idea was actually to have the track currently playing displayed in the corner :)

Using the youtube audio library is a great idea, I have to remember that^^

cool game idea and fun to play , physics is impressively good and solid ,some time i dont where i'm going to but nothing went wrong , the game easy to finish for beginners yet there is a space for those who want to speedrun it , fishind it twice

Developer

Thank you
yeah we wanted everyone to be able to finish it eventually, but the masters who fully understand the physics and mechanics can gain a lot more momentum and pull off moves beginners can't imagine. just like  a new skater might look at an older and more experience skater, to figure out how they improve.

Submitted

Pretty fun to play! I wish there was a little more diversity in the levels, but overall really fun! If you want it would be nice of you to try my game. :)

Developer

Thank you for playing, if we were to do this further we would probably scrap that entire level and make it a lot more interesting.

Going to give your game a shot too :)

I like the OlliOlli games, so this one was right up my alley too. The only thing missing is some kind of stunt system: jumps and flips are already there. Not that I ask it from a jam game, of course. Hope you update it in the future!

Developer

Thanks man, we definitely want to look at what we could do for a trick system, to just fully load the cool factor of the game.
Thanks for playing

I really like the concept, I wish it wasn't so easy to get stalled and lose momentum. I guess part of it is having the same keys to kick and to rotate.

Developer

Hey thanks for playing the game, hope you enjoyed it.
The stalling is a part of the learning curve, we had few of our friends playing it and after a while they stalled a lot less and found it really satisfying when landing a jump.
I think some of the level design could need a bit of tweaking to improve the flow, but it is also awesome when you have gotten good enough to position yourself just right at right time.
Kinda like actually skating XD

Submitted

The game has cool stuff in it, but here's some negative feedback: Skating sound would be a nice addition. The controls when landing doesn't feel that good, due to the key for angle adjustment and the key for desired direction is often not the same, which causes undesirable stalls.

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks for playing, we definitely wanted more skating sounds in and even creating some, However, we didn't have time to make them sounds as good in the game as we wanted to, so we opted for culling a feature than having one badly implemented. If we update it definitely something we'd add properly.

In terms of the landing it's meant to be a bit hard, but we found once people get used to the controls and physics they were able to land very easily and much more often which was part of the learning curve, and makes pulling off those moves a lot more satisfying. Maybe we should make a bit easier for new players, but it also makes the more seasoned players feel that much greater at the game :)

It reminds me of the flash games I used to play when I was little kid haha, very good game!

Great game! The movement feels really satisfying when you nail the momentum and the animations, particles, SFX, and BGM all come together to create an impressively polished experience for something created in such a short amount of time. I think it was a really clever strategic decision to divide the game into different "sub-levels", which makes the game maybe slightly less "foddian" as the previous commenter said but actually ensures people play and complete your game in one short sitting instead of ragequitting, which is important for a jam with such a short rating window.

I think a fun feature would be some sort of positive feedback if you did a frontflip/backflip in the air, just for that extra coolness factor that's found in your typical skateboarding games.

Overall, really excellent submission!

Developer

Hey really glad you enjoyed our game. Your comment makes it feel like you were a fly on our wall as that was exactly what we were thinking when designing the level, and those extra visual feedback was a stretch goal we didn't quite manage to get in haha.

Submitted

Good game, not enough pitfalls to consider a good foddian but enough to make a great speedrunnable game

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, I guess you could called our game a Foddian Lite, it uses those concepts. But isn't as brutally punishing as we still want the player to have fun with the core mechanic and manage to actually complete the game.

Submitted(+1)

…so you made a benevolent foddian? that’s a nice one
