Here is a complete walkthrough of the game, for anyone interested

I loved the style of your game. It would be great if we could easily tell where the platforms that we can jump on are. As it is, it gets a bit frustrating as you try to jump and then fall. And then you have to walk back and start again.

This game felt very soon like it was huge! :D

Great art although game goals are pretty vague and platforms that you can jump on are hard to distinguish from the environment. It seems from game description that it has more then I discovered but I think there really should be more hand holding in the beginning.

Also I think it is bug, but I couldn't push box on the roof above "Checkpoint!". Character took the pose to push but no matter what I couldn't move it.

I really liked this game! I loved the art style and I love the cynical view on the city and city life. All the fake billboards and stuff remind me of like GTA and things like that, I liked looking at them!

And talking to the characters was a neat touch, and I liked that my platforms were part of the world. I agree with others that it's a little hard to distinguish what is and what isn't a platform, but eventually I was sort of able to tell.

I also liked the accidental progression, is what I would call it. Where, I am just jumping around to where I can, and then accidentally make progress in the game.

My biggest problems were:

The platforming needs some work. There's no coyote time, so a lot of times I would try to jump off the edge only to just press jump a half second to late and fall to the ground. Which isn't fun, when I have to do a whole jump sequence over and over again to try and time the last jump just right.

To compensate, I would jump too early, and then have moments where the hitbox should have just been a little more forgiving. Like I can see I collide with it and almost stand up, but don't. Or sometimes I would just slide off because I was on the edge.

And the dialog system itself is soooooo slow. Watching the bubble appear, all the text roll on, all the text roll back, and then the bubble disappear for every single piece of dialogue just felt so tedious. The characters aren't saying very much but it takes so long to get through it. I would have preferred if the dialog bubble just stayed up, and then let me press a button (like F) to skip the text animation and just have it displayed.

The only other minor issue I had was, the gravity felt inconsistent. Falling after a jump would feel floaty, and then sometimes I fall off the edge and zoom to the ground.

But, again, I loved the art style, and the cynical view on things. Really captured that "I don't trust anyone in this town" vibe for everyone. And I think the platforming is really fun and exploring the level is great, just it needs some polish to make it not as frustrating.

Great entry!

nice game.

Cool graphics and sound, but the box pushing wasn’t intuitive for me. Also, if you push it to an NPC, the USE key will make you talk, so the box is stuck.

Great submission! I liked the environment, it felt really comfy and fun to explore. The interactive PC was a nice touch!! I didn't know how to progress beyond the initial area outside, but tbh I like it as a kind of meta-joke about not being a hero so there's nothing to do, lol.

The platforms weren't always very easy to see though, and I felt like it was kind of punishing to have to slowly walk all the way to the start in order to get back up. It also took me a few tries to figure out how to push the box, but I figured it out eventually, and then I got the box stuck near one of the NPCs because I kept talking to him instead of pushing the box T_T

Overall a solid entry and congratz on your first game jam :D

Thanks for your input! I watched a couple of my friends play it and they did the same thing, so you are not alone :-P.  Thank you so much for your comments and we will apply this feedback on later games :-)

Graphics remain me my childhood :)

Although because of the art style it's not easy to find where are the platforms were you can jump on, it was fun for me to try to find my way.

Suggestions for improvement: faster movement or a run key and some tricks to make platform easier (i was falling from borders the whole time)

Thanks for your feedback, it is much appreciated. We will integrate your suggestions in later builds

Nice entry, beautiful, charming graphics and simple, but fun gameplay! :3

The jump sound is a bit too harsh for my taste though.

Congrats on the entry, cheers!

Hey there,

Really liked the graphics you did in the game.

My only concerns was the sfx was a little bit off and cant quite figure out what to do after leaving the appartment.

Congrats on your submission, Cheers!!!

First of all, I loved the art style, it was so pleasing and combined with the free-roaming of the world the game was almost really enjoyable, but I was sometimes stuck because I just didn't know what is next or where I can go/travel/jump. All in all, was fun to play

At first I was slightly turned off by the graphical style, but it quickly 180'ed as I saw more of the world! It's extremely charming in a strange way, like a detailed, well-colored MS Paint drawing come to life. I would definitely be interested in coming back to explore this game some more or see it expanded on further!

The movement is a bit slow, perhaps a run could be beneficial here. It's also a little bit difficult to distinguish what is and isn't a platform that I can jump on. I'm also struggling to see what my exact goal in the world is. I very much enjoy just roaming around in this world though, lots of interesting animated details and eye candy. Overall, very unique game!

Thank you for your input! We are glad that you like the game and the ms-paint art style :P. We are going to expand on this game further with Hometown 2ero.

I'll give your game a try tomorrow morning!
