It might also help that you can add multiple samples for the same shape!
To me that was not straightforward at all when I was playing with it, but it works really well.
Hey, I used my own implemention of the $1 algorithm, described here:
https://depts.washington.edu/acelab/proj/dollar/index.html
You can find the relevant source code here:
https://github.com/guladam/BigBlackBookOfMagic/tree/main/spellcasting
But I know multiple existing plugins have the implementation of these algorithm as well:
https://github.com/angrychill/q-dollar-gesture-godot
Hope that helps!
Thanks for the feedback!
That's super helpful feedback because you're the first one to say that the mechanic was repetitive and boring.
I think 50X casts might be the other side of the spectrum, but for sure it would be a good idea to provide more spellcasts per drawing.
Thanks again for the remarks! :)
Hey Ryan!
Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked the mechanic. The solution is based on this algorithm:
https://depts.washington.edu/acelab/proj/dollar/index.html
I've found a really old, Godot 2 implementation of it here: https://github.com/blurymind/1dollar_gesture_recogniser
This is what I updated and tweaked for a Godot 4 version which is available on my GitHub:
https://github.com/guladam/BigBlackBookOfMagic/tree/main/spellcasting
Hope that makes sense! :))
Thanks for the detailed feedback! :)
Yeah the fireball hitbox turned out to be a bit weird for some reason. Other people mentioned issues with audio as well but I'm not quite sure about the cause. X would mean enabled by default.
I also agree with the level layout remarks, aim to do better next time in that regard.
Hi artemis387,
This was a really fun game!
I was a bit lost at first on what to do but once I figured it out I had a lot of fun! :)
Great job, congrats on your entry! ^_^
Hi hopem,
This is a neat idea, really like the cross between a tower defense game and the Vampire Survivors like hordes of enemies and bullets.
This is feels more like a working prototype of the gameplay loop, as others mentioned, it needs a lot of polish.
But I feel like the gameplay itself is fun and addictive so it might be worth working on it after the jam! ^_^
Great job anyways!
Hi MaxScore,
Congrats on your entry, this was a fun platformer game overall. :)
From the player's perspective I've tried to fight the green enemies at first but ended taking a lot of damage from their leap attacks. After a while, I figured the game is much easier if you don't attack at all. I was able to go through the game quicker this way.
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! :)
What do you think a good alternative control scheme might be?
I was thinking of maybe holding down a button and just moving the mouse instead? Or alternatively, pressing a button twice to start and to finish drawing? I don't know but it's a fair point, holding RMB is not the most accessible / comfortable choice here.
Hi strutcode,
This was a really fun game, congrats on the entry! :)
It had a really nice atmosphere of mystery to it. To puzzle were great, introducing the mechanics one by one as you should.
Liked the green bean projections :D
Honestly, this was a perfect little jam game experience for me. :)
The only constructive feedback I can give is the movement and jumping feels a bit l clanky and slidey like it wasn't truly in sync with the animations.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. :)

Notice that the vertical lines are straight maybe you tried to draw a zigzag pattern? I'm just curious why it didn't work.
Thanks for the feedback anyways, super helpful, I appreciate it :)
Hi aTwigAnd2Stones,
That was a really cute platformer game, liked the idea of unlocking your abilities as you go! :)
Managed to beat it with a couple deaths, my only minor complaint is that the character controller is a little bit "icy" so it takes some time to get used to.
Great entry overall, congrats!
Hi TheShaggyDev,
That was a really unique take on the theme, and the execution was flawless as well.
It was super enjoyable with a nice atmosphere and it kept me going until the end.
Congrats on your entry! :)
P. S. I really like your YouTube channel, hope to see more videos soon!
Hi Lost_Pages,
Congrats on your entry, I really liked the idea you went for! The atmosphere was super good from the beginning and it was a nice balance of trying to find torches, fighting enemies and keeping the light strong enough to see stuff!
Really fun overall, enjoyed it! :)
Hi LittleBeardMan,
This was honestly my favourite entry in the jam so far. Very much inspired by Binding of Isaac I believe but in a good way. The menu and the whole game is super polished and there's a lot of content you crammed in in such a short amount of time.
Awesome job, thanks for the fun! :)
Hi deejai, ArpyBarner,
This game is a cool combination of puzzle thinking and dexterity. I think the graphics have a charming to them as well.
Really enjoyed it, though it requires some trial and error.
I think faster throwing animation would definitely be great for the players.
What an amazing entry, enjoyed playing through all 3 levels. It is a PS1-esque vibe platformer which I really really like.
If you want some constructive feedback:
Congrats, it was super fun! :)
Hi everyone,
Congrats on your entry! Really loved the atmosphere of the game, the pixel art illustrations and sound effects are amazing, good job! :)
The story is nice as well, it was a short yet great experience.
For me, the controls were a bit confusing though with WASD keys. Somehow it felt inconsistent where the character goes when I press a direction.
