The game im very impressive! Proof that the godot game engine can do a lot! I am a fellow Godot user and i am looking to make a collabe for a horror game. You seem like the perfect partner so let me know if you are interested! You can check out my games if you want.

Developer(+1)

Wow thank you! I'm focusing on some projects now but  I will consider a partnership in the future! :D

Here we are 2 years later lol. With many new projects under our names and Godot 4.2 released, it's been awhile 😂. Anyways, if you would like to do a collab, I'm still down. So let me know

Developer

Oh wow, I respect your patience haha
Do you have discord?

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I do lol it's KoGameStudio#2848 Hit me up and we'll discuss a project, I have an idea of what to do

Very nice entry. I died on the 5th evening right outside my house in a sprint of panic trying to get back. Excellent atmosphere achieved with few elements. I especially liked the sound design, which evoked a quiet dread without feeling contrived. Little hints of environmental story telling were nice too.

Some little things that have mostly been mentioned:
1.  Tree hit boxes were definitely too big making navigation feel a little awkward.
2.  Some kind of map system or dotted landmark would be nice for orientation.
3.  A better method of time keeping rather than the discrete blocks of time. Maybe a watch? Make it use battery if you want to keep the tension.
4.  A sprint button. It felt incongruous to fail from panic while moving at the same pace. A stamina bar would prevent abuse but would have allowed me to make a dash for safety outside my house.
5. Something to do at night instead of just staring at your generator. There was something very thematic and compelling about that though, hopelessly watching your paltry supplies dwindle in front of you, unsure of when the morning will bring sweet relief. More game systems could help but may also complicate the simplicity of the experience.

Developer

I think you gone beyond the ending haha
Something happens in the morning of the day 5

Thank you for playing and I'm glad you liked it!

1. The tree hitboxes are bad because I had to use automatic ones, instead of adding then the way it was suposed to work

2. I agree with the map thing, didn't though about that while I was doing the game

3. I like the idea of a watch which uses battery, maybe in a future update!

4. I agree about the sprint thing too

5. I had some ideas of things to do, that maintain that feeling, things like a radio or even a tv that raises the fuel consumption, but I didn't had time to add that.

Thank you for such a constructive feedback!

I remember seeing a man outside my door actually as I was running back. Is he supposed to appear in the morning? I figured out the timing for your panic meter so I actually left the house at dawn so I'd have more time to run around. Guess my need for efficiency broke it!
A radio would have been a nice touch. The feeling of isolation is pretty strong so some method of trying to contact the outside world while sacrificing the resources for your continued survival would have felt like a thematically appropriate choice.

Developer

Yeah he appears in the morning, I didn't consider people would outrun the ending haha
But it was expected since the player is afraid of the dark and it's not dark anymore on late dawn.

I thought the radio would be cool too, like a citizen band radio where you scroll around a bunch of static in hopes to find other people's signal.

Really good game, and very neat house designs.

Developer

Thank you!

5/5 creepy, great sound choices. My character was turning to the right constantly, maybe that's on my end.

Developer

Not sure what can cause that, maybe it's something with your browser, no idea. Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Yes, it is Firefox.

Very nice graphics and consistent controls!

I really enjoyed it! Congrats!

Developer

Really cool game, I love the atmosphere!

On a side note, when my flashlight ran out of battery, it started repeating the on/off sound every frame (changing the battery fixed it), not sure if that was intended.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you liked it!
And oh yeah, it's not intended it's suposed to play only once, it's a bug. I only realised about that after the deadline was already over and I couldn't update to fix it. xD

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, fair enough. :P
Wasn't a big deal anyway.

I really like the 3d with pixelated texture, you manage it very well.
I like the overall atmosphere and the panic effect. Great job!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!

I panicked! 😂 Great sound effects! I really like how it goes from day to night. The world was much bigger than I expected. Very ambitious and very well done!💛

Developer(+1)

Oh that's unfortunate haha
I tried to make a smooth day and night cycle because the game is all about that, also I actually planned a even bigger map but had to reduce things a bit in order to meet the jam deadline, I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for your feedback!

Awesome job! I panicked a few times before I could figure out how late I could stay outside. It was so full of hope each morning, and then in the afternoon I would like panic and be so full of dread, so great job with the feel of it! Very impressive.

Developer

Thank you for playing and I'm glad you liked it!
So the time that shows the part of the day in the upper right corner is basically just to keep the player in track of time, but the panick is caused by the lack of light so it starts in the early evening and ends in the late dawn. If you are far from home when the darkness starts the flashlight may be helpful for you to get home.

It really surprise me, such a great game. The thing I missed was something to do at night, if the character could at least sleep to pass the night it would be great.

Developer

Thank you for your review! I agree with you, I plan to add things to do during the night in a future update. :)

Great job with the theme. Energy is everything here. I LOVE the graphics. they remind me a lot of ps1 era things, especially Megaman legends, with the large pixel textures on flat polygons. It was fun to explore the large environment. I did have a bug at one point where a rapid beeping sound started and would not go away. I thought it might have been the generator but it didn't stop when the night ended and i turned it off.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!
I'm so glad you like the graphics, I made with that retro vibe in mind and that's my favorite style, mixing low poly 3D with pixel art.
I think the bug you mentioned is because you kept the flashlight on and it ran out of battery, that sound was suposed to play only once, it didn't happened i n the tests but in the html5 version it plays like that for some reason. Try changing batteries (press R) and turn it on again so it will stop (I hope haha).

personally i think this should be among the winners, I enjoyed every last second that I spent playing this. gr8 job ;)

Developer

Wow thank you so much for saying that, you made my day and I hope you're right! I'm glad you enjoyed! :D

Cool style and well implemented!

Developer

Thank you! :D

Nicely done, very "themed" :-) I panicked after a time, but it was very nice to feel the need of the fuel!

Developer

Yeah it goes by fast if you don't turn the generator on haha
Thank you for your feedback!

Always a delight to see 3D-games with pixel art/voxels. Some fonts were quite small and I could find the victory conditions mentioned anywhere in the game. It's a really good game for your second game.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for your feedback! You win by being able to reach day 5, sorry about the fonts it scales based on the resolution, it should be better if you play on fullscreen

Submitted(+1)

The game is fun but i always keep forgetting where my house is. It would nice to have some clear indicator that shows where your house is either though some kind of minimap or like an arrow pointing to your house when its about to become dark.

Developer

Thank you so much for your review, and yeah it can be confusing, I will consider adding something like that on a future update!

Submitted(+1)

What a nice game.  It was fun to play and captured some of that survival horror feel.  I also really liked the pixel art aesthetic.

A few things you might want to look into:

  • the tree hit box is quite large and makes it difficult to navigate the forest.  You might want to make it only as big as the trunk.
  • You spend the night just waiting around for dawn to break.  Maybe there's other things to do at night that I just didn't discover, but if you're just waiting for time to pass, you might want to allow the player to skip to dawn.
  • It's hard to tell where you are in the world with all the trees and the houses looking nearly identical.  You might want to add an overhead map, or at least place a few landmarks that are visible above the treeline to make it easier to tell where you are.
Developer

I agree with everything you said, I tried to compensate the waiting time during the night by making the day and night cycle shorter, I had some ideas for thing to do, but I barely made it in time for the Jam, there was a lot I wanted to add and bugs to fix, it's my second game ever and I learned a lot by doing it! Thank you so much for the feedback! :D
