Loved the art, mechanics is simple but hooks you up pretty reliably. I couldn’t stop clicking Spin even after I upgraded everything. Suggestion: might be more fun if extra bonuses apply depending on how things line up on a board?

Developer(+1)

Thank you ! really happy to hear that you have played long enough to fully upgrade everything : ) That means a lot to me.
The extra bonuses is a good suggestion, I did plan on doing a 'Luck be a Landlord' style of effects on where adjacent items can have additional effect, but can't be too ambitious with only 2 days.

Again thank you for trying out the game and liking it !

Got to level 32!

It is a quite nice game. I'd just add more variety to the effects of the items. All healing items heal the same amount and all damage items deal the same amount. Probably was a time limitation, good job!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words ! Yup, there was definitely more planned effects in the beginning, even item combinations at first (not just match 3).  But with the 50 hours limitation, I had to cut back a lot just to make it in time.

Thank you again for playing  :D

I really like auto-battlers, so I liked the combining items mechanic. Though the game is quite basic, I quite enjoyed it and could see it being really good with more features (different effects for items other than 2 dmg/2 heal, getting progressively better items, an ability to sell old items etc etc, lots of exciting directions to take from here!)

Developer

Thank you for playing and liking the game ! Yeah, definitely planned a lot more effects at the beginning, criticals, dodges, defense, etc. But as I try to create the game, I realized that each effects takes a lot more time than I anticipated. I opted to go with the damage and heal as I try to make the rest of the game playable and readable (and also bug free).

Again, thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot to me  : )

Submitted(+1)

Yup, that's game jams for you. Keeping the scope in check for 2 days is tricky and is something you get better at over time

Submitted(+1)

Simple yet effective! I wish there was a way to influence into which item goes into which slot so that it's not completely random but the addictiveness is definitely there 😄

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing ! That's a good idea, will definitely consider that as I try to improve upon the game. Thank you for the kind words :)

This game is great!

It has fun mechanics, easy to understand gameplay. Looks great and overall feels awesome, and its jam-packed!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words ! Really glad to hear that you had fun :D

With no offense to any others that I've played thus far--- this is probably the most complete game experience I've seen in the jam.  This is a great example of a very simple concept with an endearing spin (no pun) on it (the orc fantasy battle).

IMO this game will do very well in this jam, perhaps a bit better than it "should", because really its quite basic, isn't it? But for me, that is not a negative. Well done!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you for the compliment ! That was exactly what I was aiming for :D, a simple enough game to learn easily, but with enough "meat" in it to enjoy and have variety (even if slightly). I'm also really happy to hear that it still feels "complete", I have had to hold back a lot of the ideas I had just to make sure I submit a game in time.

Glad that you liked the orc theme, and thank you again for the kind words.

Really fun. It took me a second play to realise that its best to aim for 3's and particularly 9's. This would make a fun mobile app! Art is really good, as is the music and sound choices.

Developer(+1)

Thank you ! Would definitely try to expand it more and see where it goes. Have learned a lot from this jam and have ideas I wanted to try. I am really happy to hear that you have liked it.

Submitted(+1)

The game was pretty polished. I felt like it began to snowball a bit in the later levels, and then I just got stopped. But other than that, there was a solid degree of strategy and the art was good!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing and the kind words ! Definitely could've tweaked the difficulty curve a bit more, but glad that you have liked it : )

Beyond scratching that itch of watching numbers go up, there's definitely some degree of strategy to it considering that I got to level 3 when clicking randomly, but when actually thinking about my decisions I got to level 75. Plus, it looks and sounds nice!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing ! and thank you for appreciating the strategy even if limited.
I did originally plan to add a lot more, to make the strategy part more pronounced, but the 50 hours limit got me.
I also did like your game a lot, it brought up a lot of nostalgia during my days on my PS1.
Thank you again for the kind words : )

Great presentation and music ! I like how the randomness is used to battle !

Developer

Thank you for the kind words !

Very nice! Looks good, and has enough of a meaningful decision to not just feel like a slot machine. I  could see this being fleshed out  into a small roguelite or something.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words ! will definitely try to add a lot more to the game.
I had tons of ides to make decision making more fun, but had to make sure that I pass the 50 hours limit.

Thanks again for the kind words, they mean a lot to me : )

The simplicity and presentation were really great! A little too reliant on luck but the theme is 100% in there! I also liked that you used Kenney assets. :)

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, have learned that balancing a random heavy game is really difficult. I mean, how do you make random not feel random? But it was a learning experience and it was fun experimenting.

Thank you again for the kind words !

Simple fun, put together neatly! There might only be one basic interaction to the game, but unlike a lot of jam games, this one feels quite jank-less!

The one thing I don't feel fits quite is the music, but other than that the game seems like it's accomplishing its goals in all aspects!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you for playing! I'm not a composer at all, so I had to find a music that best fits the theme. And since there is a time limit, I didn't have much time finding one that fits best.

All in all, thank you for the kind words and appreciate you for noticing the jank-less-ness of the game !

Submitted(+1)

I can relate to the music issue, particularly as a solo dev! I myself ended up just picking something old of mine!

Submitted(+1)

Haha, I had the same problem... 1 hour before the deadline: trying to find decent music...

Impressive 👍 I liked how u used concept and I enjoyed playing

Thank you !

Hey cool little game you got here! I like that we're playing as an Ogre and not a generic good guy (though I guess ogres could be good...?) Was fund seeing the numbers go up and eventually me one shotting enemies. I also just kept getting more and more health, so the enemies couldn't even touch me really. I evenutally stopped at level ~35 since then it looked like the enemies were repeating themselves. The one thing that confused me though, were the enemies getting their attacks from my stuff? It seemed like after a roll whatever was on their half of the screen would go to them? Oh well even if it did... I was too strong for them!

Very nice game! Was nicely polished and if expanded could be really incredible!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing! Yeah, was having trouble with the difficulty balance since I wanted everything to be randomized. Sometimes when you got lucky on the first few rolls, you will snowball and no longer lose. (at times you can die at level 5).

Enemy attacks are randomized based on the level (higher level, higher attack). I could've made the attack indication clearer, but I did made the player attacks as yellow, and the enemy attacks as red. Will keep this in mind in the future.

Thank you for the feedback and the kind words!

I like the idea of the game,

However it feels my choice doesn't actually matter, and the outcome is just completely based on randomness

Developer

Thank you for playing! yeah, have had a lot more ideas to lessen the reliance on randomness and add a bit more strategy, but had to cut back a lot of it just to finish the game in time : )

Submitted(+1)

A little too luck based, but still fun. The game felt super polished with clean / clear animations.

Developer

Thank you for playing and the kind words! Yeah, the balance is a bit off, wanted to tweak it a bit more but the time restrictions  : D

Submitted(+1)

Ahh I see that you are also a connoisseur of Kenney assets. I’m fairly certain we’ve used the same tile sets. Congrats on completing the jam!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!
Yup, assets like Kenney are a savior on game jams like these, makes things a lot easier.

Its a fully functioning game and I didn't see any bugs.
I'm not sure how strongly slots fits the theme of dice but I did enjoy playing the game for a bit. Got to level 21(?) before losing.

Developer

Thank you! I did have the same doubts at first, but after re-watching Mark's video, he did say "randomness and probability" or "boardgames or casinos" so I'm pretty sure slots are safe. Again, thank you for playing : )

Developer

please be gentle, thank you
