Really enjoyed it. The teammates ai felt a little unsmart at times, and would just stand doing nothing. Otherwise fun idea

One of the AI's personalities is literally just "stand still and shoot until someone falls over". Another is just run to the flag without a care in the world. I think it keeps you on your toes and means you can't win the game by just sticking with teammates alone.

Thanks for the comment either way!

That makes sense, thanks for the response

Really fun and simple game, I felt like it was too hard but then I played nonstop until I beat it so what do I know?

But for real, one of my favorite games of the jam, I think the game feel is amazing and getting used to the flag movement takes a bit (not a problem of the game in any means) but once you  do it feels super great.

Also this game proved that my teammates have been the problem all along ¬¬

To tell you the truth, I was horrified to play other jam games, as I thought we had no idea what we were doing and having smaller teams means worse games, but after playing them it was a wake up call for me - some people don't know what they're doing either. I guess the issue is not with team sizes per se as it is with project management. While compared to my friend I didn't do as much work, I made sure the scope was low and we had a clear goal to shoot for. It's much easier to make a game that you believe you can make with little unknowns.

If there's one piece of advice I can give is to team up with people that are enthusiastic to work with you, share your vision or at least that you have great chemistry with. It makes the toughest challenges much easier to deal with and the experience becomes that much more meaningful. If you lose, it's spread out evenly, but if you win, you all bask in the glory. I'm grateful I had a friend that could dig me out of a dark place at the end of day 1 and I probably would've bailed from the competition half-way. And he enjoyed working with me still, so that's always nice. I swear there was a whole character arc happening during those two and a half days, but I don't want to delve into the details here.

Thank you for your inspiring comment!

Ok it has been brought to my attention by my jam teammates that maybe there has been a bit of a missunderstanding with my comment, when I said "Also this game proved that my teammates have been the problem all along" I didn't mean my jam team, I mean the team inside your game, the red block guys. I thought I was being funny but it just blew in my face :/ I wish I could say that's the first time that has happened tho.
Also, to address your response, it's really hard to disagree with what you say, I concur in everything you say but everything is also a learning exercise, it was my first jam and I clearly missed the scope by a long shot and unfortunately there are some of us who don't have regular friends that are that invested in game development, but I'm really happy to have met the team I've worked with which all have been great to me and a pleasure to work with.

And finally I'm really glad you shared your experience and overcame your insecurity to deliver such a nice experience. I'm really glad you didn't back down ^^

Strange how your original comment made me self-reflect and I opened myself up to reminisce about my experience in such a way. Sorry if my response has touched a nerve, that wasn't my intention!

Keep on keeping on!

Haha no worries I love that you opened up about your experience, I'm sure some people will find it insightful (I certainly did) but I wanted to adress the possible missunderstanding that I was shitting in my teammates because for sure I wasn't

Super fun game! Really good presentation and love the concept of being a flag trying to run away from the opponent! Well done guys!

I love it! The idea is very creative, not to mention the visual and sound design. It overall really adds to the goofy atmosphere. Also the flag idle animation is a nice touch. Really satisfying.

Great idea. It's a fun game and the animation of the flag is so cute =3

Great idea! I'm curious how much it would change if you added in actual players. Well... I guess it would just then become an escort mission.

A really creative idea executed super well. I am impressed at the level of polish. And the feel of the movement is really fluid, the game looks great, music fits very well. Nothing bad to say about this one

So so so good. Feels great to play and very polished. Reminds me a lot of Halo's Oddball mode, complete with teammates that are never quite where you want them to be..

Very fun and well polished game! Loved the art and all the little details. Slow down felt great and the planting yourself in the ground animation when you stood still was a beautiful little touch.

Very unique and stylish.

Very good game and fun ! And what a nice AI do just in 48 hours :) ! I'm very interest to know how do you do it !

Developer

Tons of details I'm omitting here, but basically Godot navmesh system designed for top-down games repurposed for side-scrollers, taught AI when to jump and drop, and adjusted the level to hide imperfections and edge cases. If the AI breaks for whatever reason, they just go left or right until they get unstuck. Also some AI has different goals and priorities and I think it helps make them more unpredictable in a fun way - having allies near you is not a guaranteed win.

Thanks for your review!

awesome game
