I liked that you didn't just reverse the original game mode but also added a little twist with the "suspended" aliens. It increased the challenge but also my enjoyment ! Great job !
Yes, gotta have a little bit more to the gameplay :) Thank you very much for playing! :D
Nice job! I had fun with this one, despite its simplicity. It has a similar gameplay loop to Root Beer Tapper, actually. One element you could take from that game is making it so enemies don't fall back down unless you really overload them with bullets. For example, in Root Beer Tapper you can serve a customer but they only get pushed back a bit, not always all the way off the bar. If the aliens shed some of the bullets off of them over time it would cause the player to either fill them with bullets or juggle which ones they're shooting at.
Just some rambling thoughts I had while playing :)
I googled Root Beer Tapper, you're right that the gameplay are quite similar! Definitely more tweaking needed to get the game to be more strategic. Thank you so much for playing, and for the feedback! :D
I played several rounds and I enjoyed the subversion in this game. My one big critique is that I felt I was being thwarted by having invaders in front of another invader thus making it impossible to take them both out at once. Otherwise I really enjoyed it as a arcade game. Well done!
Yes, the enemies blocking line of sight was on of the intended game mechanics (decision whether to shoot more to get them down faster, or to move on to other enemies)... but the placement of enemies wasn't well spaced out, so they could overlap and bunch up, which can be unfair, certainly something to fix! Thank you so much for playing, and for the feedback! :D
Very polished, intuitive, and fun! Excellent job! I really like the visual of the bullets attaching to the enemies and weighting them down!
Thank you so much for playing! :D
That was fun! I liked how you seamlessy communicated the tutorial without breaking the flow of the gameplay
I'm glad you noticed the tutorial, I was quite pleased with it too.. especially after the text appears, and the enemy described appears.. programming magic, the little things in life! haha! Thank you for playing! :D
Good game!
Thank you for playing! :D
was my record lol not so good
Pretty good, especially having 4 MASS! :D
Genius that the bullets "pull" the enemies down, makes the game so much more interesting
Glad you liked that mechanic! Thank you so much for playing! :D
Nice idea on the arcade classic. Nice and chill music that went along with it too, and the art looked similar to the arcade classic as well.
Already having a reference for the art, sure does save precious game jam time! haha!ahem.. the aim of the art was only to pay tribute to the fantastic arcade original! Thank you for playing! :D108 score! Fun game! Nailed roles reversed! A bit addicting, I won't lie! :D Mass alien exodus was also a great mechanic stirring things up a bit!
SFX and music on point! Great job!
Nicely done! Thank you for playing, and for the kind words! :D
It is a really fun game! Sounds are soo good, my ears say thank you :)
Thanks for playing the game!! :D
Simple and quite fun. The enemies bullet are not frightening but their number is their strength.
Strength in numbers! Thank you for playing! :D
Very charming and neat idea, I wouldn't have thought of taking space invaders in this direction. Good execution all around. Well done!
Thank you for the kind words, and for playing! :D
Simple and fun. I managed to only have one escape on my first alien exodus!
Nicely done, my friend! Thank you for playing! :D
Super fun game !
I used my trustworthy spam-justsu powers in both up and space at once to get more shots out quicker, even though the aliens ended up besting me after a while I feel like I did pretty good :
(PS: the screenshot doesn't appear to load for some reason so here's a link https://imgur.com/a/rtsdg4L)
Now my arm hurts because of all the spamming haha !
It was very fun still and well paced too, with those resting moments and the mass exodus rushes.
There is some luck element involved given that some times the aliens keep spawning at opposite ends or worse spawn aligned, especially with those BBBs (promptly named Big Blue Bois by me right about now), as they take a lot of shots and don't fall fast it was usually hard to catch them when they spawned on top of each other.
I also wonder what happens when shooting while inside an alien, it felt like it didn't make them fall any faster which often allowed a lot to pass.
I don't expect this shield sacrifice to be part of the code but I'm wondering if it was just a feeling or if these shots really did nothing.
Had a smile the whole time so great job anyway !
Wow, you found an optimisation for firing faster... multiple fingers for multiple keys! I didn't think of that! haha! :D
You did pretty well indeed, my friend.. most impressive! :D
The aliens will absorb the shot if shot inside, and the max shots on each alien is 10, so they won't go down any faster after 10 shots, they just absorb and block. The "shoot more to bring them down faster, else they block line of sight" was part of the plan.. but all the aliens squished together part wasn't. Especially those BBBs, they can be troublesome! I was going to optimise the spawning locations, so that they don't spawn so close together, but you know how game jam 48 hours go by so fast! haha!
Thanks for playing, and for the feedback! :D
P/S: BBBs, I like that name!
Score: 93
The different sizes requiring more hits to bring down was very cool. If you didn't have time to deal with a big ship or there were lots of little ships to deal with you could just tag them once and deal with them later, very neat idea.
Good job!
oh yes, you got the strategy! There is even a statistic to encourage that.. the MASS! haha! The downside is they block line of sight! Thank you for playing! :D
Fun game! And a really creative use of the theme of the jam :)
Maybe the big aliens could escape if you shoot them a few times but not enough to bring them down. I think right now if you shoot them a few times, they stay in place or move down slowly. I don't know, just an idea.
Great job!
Ah yes, the big ones can still move upwards if shot < 4 times, but it may too slow to notice! 4 times keep them in place, and anything more pulls them down. Thanks for playing the game! :D
At the start, I also though of Space Invaders, but couldn't come up with a concept for the 'Role Reversal' theme. This is a nice idea to fit the theme and very polished and unique concept. Good job!
Thank you for the kind words, and for playing the game! :D
Does exactly what it says on the tin
Simple, and enjoyable
Thanks for playing! :D
Good idea.I love the mechanic you get stun instead of dead when being hit.I's a bit weird the enemies appearing overlap with player.Maybe a switch to shoot horizontally is also a plan to consider. In that situation the enemies you shot back can hit with the other enemies that leads to some play strategy.
That's true, the enemies do pass behind the player to escape upwards... horizontal shooting is a good idea! Thanks for playing the game, and for the feedback! :D
very fun, i love the physics and kinda adicting :D
The bigger they are, the slower they fall?! haha! Thanks for playing the game! :D
