This definitely seems very fun. Controls are nice, though I wish there was an option to break tiles above you, seeing as.. that's the direction that's away from the water?

The transitions are very nice and I really like them!

But about the procedural generation...

I could never go for more than 15 seconds before I found myself in an unwinnable position (heck, you could spawn in an unwinnable position). Since you can't break blocks upwards, if you ever find yourself below a large ceiling, your screwed). Additionally, I'd often find myself in scenarios where the distance between me and ground above me too far, and due to the water's fast speed, you can't just fall back down to find a better position to fly from, you're done. (It's also for this reason that I wasn't able to get any power ups, besides this green orb, and I died before I could tell what it was)

also this happened:

what the hell happened here

I honestly don't know what happened, but from the error message I'm guessing a particle got deleted from the table and somehow the game still tried to do math to it

Definitely a game with potential, but just a bit rough round the sides.

fun litttle game

nice gameplay, and the little things like a rival company ruining your market share so you need to decide to do something are very great additions

managed to get 100% popularity (nice)

pretty simplistic graphics

music is very nice aswell

very simple, fun game

nice simplicstic graphics and colors

nice gameplay loop (wish you could get hearts)

nice sfx

(no music but thats fine)

nice

I know the jam is finished, but I just wanna say, well done to everyone who made a game for this jam, and to those who played the jam games!  Special well done to those who won the jam, along with the runner ups. You all did great! :)

This game is perfection! and yet I never heard of it till now :(

The gameplay is amazing, and I like how each world uses its own unique mechanic combined with the basic toggle spikes!

The art here is very, very good, especially the higher res ones like the title screen and backgrounds!

And the music ohhhhh myyyy. If you played these tracks to me without telling me where they came from, I would guess you used the NES (2A03) plus some expansion chip like the N163. It genuinely uses all the channels (2 pulse, 1wave, 1 noise) so well!

The stars you had to collect were a nice little challenge for 100%ers, and the prize you get from it is really fun. I enjoyed it alot!

I litteraly have nothing to complain about here. Its that good!

Well done, Gumpy Function, Vault Kid and Tronimal! :D

I found one you havent put here so:

https://itch.io/jam/gbjam-11/rate/2273318

It's really good btw :)

this is a pretty solid entry ngl

the art was nice, and the gameplay was simple, but kinda fun (though I do find it weird that the weird fuzzy-esc things can just spawn right in front of you, like some weren't even coming from offscreen, some just came out of nowhere lmao)

The music though.... oh dear.

Ik music is hard, and I like the fact that there is more than just 1 music track in the entire game.

With that being said, the music here sounds more like you just decided to throw together random pulse, wave, and noise channels nonsense into a couple of songs and pretend like nothing happened or something, but it really did not work out there.

Still, it's a good entry, and even better considering that it's on real hardware!

This game definitely has potential, it just needs more time in the oven (I think that's how the phrase goes)

Firstly, the art is really nice (and probably this game's strong point), and the movement is a bit slow, but it's manageable imo. RIP the music, was gonna vibe to the pulse channels till I realised it had no music.

...but why no sfx? I can understand music, as making actually good music for the gameboy using its 2 pulse, 1 wave, 1 noise channels can be difficult, but the lack of sfx made the game wayyyyyyyyy to empty imo.

Now, I never actual beat this game because of 2 reasons: ( well, I mean, laziness was part of it but the main 2 were)

1) Softlocks.

litteraly, if you go up at the start, go left, go up, and then keep holding up when you exit the planet, you'll actually clip out of bounds, and be unable to get back, effectively softlocking you. Sure, there's the save feature, but even in a different room, aka the one Zani.Pixels mentioned, it's possible to walk to the top / bottom of the well and dog house room, and be unable to get out :/

2) The map is H U G E

i legit got trapped in this room without a fishing rod and couldn't get out lmao

This game is definitely very good, and the fact that it's on an actual gameboy is great, but there just a couple things preventing this game from being really good, that all.

I had that exact problem lol

This game has got style, ngl

Despite being relatively short, the content here is extremely promising. The art here is amazing, the gameplay is fun, the smol storyline is intriguing, and the music is amazing ( actually good use of all sound channels - pulse, wave, noise - something I haven't seen with that many entries that run on actual gameboys)

I have nothing bad to say about this game besides the fact that's its short, but it's a game jam. Things like this happen. :)

So overall, really strong entry in all places! I am very excited to see how the rest of the game will go (assuming you decide to continue this game, that is)!

smol little game we got here, but it's definitely something!

sure, the art is basic and the music is, a) nonexistent and b) the sfx just use 1 pulse channel for the entirely thing, but that isn't to say the gane isn't challenging.

Seems easy till you reach 150, then you realise what you are in for!

Do have to say though, the scrolling got so fast I genuinely was confused about what was where for a while :/

still, it's a good start, and even better that it's on an actual gameboy! :D

...for the feedback!

I originally only had the trampoline and ladder, but I added the Warp one for more v a r i e t y !

Also thanks for the feedback on the checkpoints! I appreciate it.

thanky, thanky, thank you for your fe ed ba ck!

Now that you mention it, the game is kinda close to celeste in a way. May consider stealing  I mean... borrowing, the dash or make something inspired by it.

Also thanks for the difficulty ramp feedback, that also helps alot :)

why, thanks for the smol feedback!

I appreciate it :)

Long text joke aside, I did plan on adding more, but, being a game jam, plus the fact that I started this one kinda late, I was unable to add more content :(

DAMN this is clean.

The gameplay here is very solid and enjoyable (i like the fact you can choose what and where to go here), the art looks amazing (I'll ignore the fact you used more than 4 colors simply due to how amazing this is and that it's on an actual gameboy) and the music ooooooohhhh myyyy. This is yet another one of the very smol selection of games in this jam that 1) run on an actual gameboy and 2) has music that utilises ALL the gameboy's channels effectively (aka 2 pulse, 1 wave, and 1 noise). Whoever made the music here, you deserve a medal for this.

My only smol complaint is that the boss takes 9 hits to defeat, which is very easy to do lol.

Still, this game is outstanding! Well done!

(1 edit)

wasn't able to beat this but i can say that it is definitely interesting

The art is nice :)

only 2 complaints I have are the fact that the controls feel a bit "stiff" for me, and the music is well, it's basically just random notes on one of the pulse channels with some occasional periodic noise, and it doesn't really sound that good in my opinion

Still, this is definitely a solid entry!

(2 edits)

Edit: it now works, and it's kinda upscaled, but that's good, cuz it means it's easier to draw things.

So I've used tic80 version 1.0.2164 on my mobile for a while now and now that I have seen the new version, 1.1, I wanted to, well, try it out!

Problem is that, for some reason, the 1.1 version is not compatible with my device, so I can't install it.

My best guess for the reason has something to do with abiFilters in the build.gradle in the android/app folder as I managed to fix a similar problem with another app, though I now unfortunately don't have the means to be able to do it here. (my device is a 32bit one btw I think)

So yeah, that.

:/

Thank you for your feedback!

I made the game based on cyberspace merely because I wanted to have a take on the theme that wasn't mentioned on the jam page, and plus, I LOVE cyberspace themed things. They can be soo gooood.

Also, thanks for the feedback on the introducing of game mechanics.    :)

thanks for your feedback! :)

I probably tinkered with the controls for a bit, though fortunately I had a old abandoned project of mine before the jam that I basically used as reference for these ones, so it was relatively easy :)

nice smol game here

enjoyed it alot :)

Now this, is peak Gameboy aesthetic!

I (sadly) haven't beaten this gane, but from the small bits I have played, this could definitely become a very good (homebrew) gameboy game!

This art is beautiful, and the music, while definitely not a absolute banger, is definitely nice enough, fit with the environments, and use the gameboy's 4 channels nicely (though I'm not sure whether the wave channel was used for bass or smth but eh, who cares)

The only problem was that I experienced some minor lag in the world with caves and such that I forgot the name of, but besides that, it was very good :D

And even better that it is on the actual gameboy! Well done!

This one was definitely very good.

The Art was good, and the music was.. good enough /:) .

Only thing I could suggest is that whenever you finally finish packing and press Start, I would like maybe just a small screenshot of what would have happened to you, rather than some basic text on screen.

Still, this was a very nice take on the theme ;D

Thanks for da feedback! :)

...I don't know what to put here lmao

I've already commented on your game but uhhhhhhhhh

I feel like rate swaping with you soooooo

https://itch.io/jam/gbjam-11/rate/2280015

This game is actually, by far, imo, one of the best games of the jam!

Sure, the art is a little weird in some places, but let's be honest, not everyone is good at art lol.

The gameplay was solid and I enjoyed it, and the take on the theme space was definitely very ingenious!

But this game has something else I haven't experienced for a majority of the game jam games (that are on a actual gameboy);

Great music!

No really, I like haven't see a game so far that has genuinely used the pulse channels, wave channel, and noise channel so good. The music feels like, well, actual music that 100% was not made in 10 days or less.

Saying it again:

This game is great!

This game is definitely very, very promising!

The art is definitely good, and the overheating mechanic is certainly a smart and unique one!

I even like the ability to swap palletes on the fly. I like that kind of stuff! (I even put it in my own game lol)

Only thing lacking is the sound department. There's definitely good SFX, it's merely just now the fact that the "music" is literally the pulse (and noise, I think) channels playing like one note and then looping till the end of time

This one has a very funny storyline, and that I like :)

But it kinda, lacks, in, like, alot of places.

The art is definitely good, considering the limitations. But often whenever I shot like 1 bullet, lag would hit, and it was kinda annoying. I'm going to assume that this is a memory issue and that the gameboy just can't update the values of the shots fast enough, but yeah...

And the music is... its definitely not terrible, but it kinda feels wayyy to empty, and it's like so short. Don't get me wrong, any music and sfx is better than none, but the wave and noise channels felt so underutilised it hurts. And the pulse channels are also really, really basic. Like is kinda just, basic melody, basic embellishment, repeat.

Still though, it's definitely a very good game. And the fact it's on a actual gameboy makes that even better!

:D

Ps, thanks for commenting on my game!

might as well add mine while I'm here so:

https://itch.io/jam/gbjam-11/rate/2280015

hope you enjoy it :)

Really cool concept, but I gotta say that the movement is so sloooowwwwww. I know you are on the moon or something but that isn't an excuse for slow movement. And the Oxygen mechanic would be nice.... assuming you could even see your Oxygen.

(Dumb question but uhhh, how does the gameboy convert hexadecimal to decimal, because that is probably the only problem I can think of that made you not put in a Oxygen meter / number :/ )

DAMN this is POLISHED. There is so many cutscenes, so many places to go, and lots of dialogue. Oh and the art, it was great, like really good.

My only concern is that, 1), I never really knew what I was doing, I just did stuff, and secondly, some dialogue / corridors are VERY, VERY LONG. Oh, and you might want to change the size of the forward facing helicopter, as it looks really, really weird imo.

Despite that, this game is VERY strong in terms of quality. Looking forward to see some future updates of this.

Nice take on the theme :)

This is one of those short but definitely enjoyable games.

Only 2 problems is that when you move forward and backwards, your feet look so damn big lol, and uhh,  Mr Gerk getting stuck on coffee and causing lag :/

Still good!

If you passed out from exhaustion, that's kinda concerning :/

Hope you are OK tho.

Thanks for the feedback Zani!

I legit have no idea what Super Jacked Up Tomato Face Johnson is. Might go check it out. Oh and the background, ye it's kinda too advanced for a gameboy lol, but it looks really nice imo.

I can't play your game right now :p, but I could probably give some tips for a controls tutorial.

1: Make your game simple. Simple games often have simple controls, and as such, will make it easy to play.

2. Force the level design to teach it. By that I mean there may be a tall cliff that can only be gotten over via double jumping, which teaches the player that "Hey, bud, you can double jump"

3. Add an in-game tutorial. By that I mean force the player to go through a tutorial in-game which has some speech bubbles saying what you can do and why you would use it. For example, Cuphead, a game I hope you would have heard about, has a tutorial like this.

That's all I can think of really.

Hope this helps somehow!

I really like how the intro game just seamlessly transitioned into the main one, really cool ngl. Music was also nice. (Me like pulse channels lol)

Only thing I could complain is that I would prefer a hold to boost upwards rather than tap crazy lol. Oh and the lag oh dear, something must have been legit killing the memory of the gameboy somehow because near the end the lag started to set in, bad.

Still, was a nice game all around   :)

So my game, Cyberspace Warp (this: https://itch.io/jam/gbjam-11/rate/2280015 ) was made in TIC80, and I was wondering, could I add the original .tic file in the description so that mobile users can play it or smth.

(Note, I said original file, not an updated one)

This is the type of creativity that I came for in gbjam 11!

I really like the elbowing mechanic, and the puzzles were really fun.

So was the music. It was simple, but enjoyable :)

The only minor complaint that I could even think of, is the fact that sometimes it's hard to tell who you can elbow and not. Sure, most of them are kinda just made up of yellow, but still, it was kinda confusing.

Still, very nice game, and even better that it is on an actual gameboy!
