How does your game fit the theme?
Please read the game page! This fits the theme of "Joined Together" because the player only has three buttons and needs to bind multiple controls to the same button to solve the puzzles.

Very interesting concept! This really makes for a nice and enjoyable puzzler, I really love your take on the theme with mapping the different controls to the eyes. Great idea and good job!

Really good game! I love the unique idea first of all and the art and music are great. Chaining orders together and then seeing them play out perfectly is satisfying. One nitpick though is that for a new mechanic, it's not explained all that well...

Developer

That's a good point. We initially wanted to introduce the controls with a tutorial but we ran out of time. We've added some small animations to the next version (you can see them in the game page) to guide the player more near the beginning.

As for the dash, we wanted to introduce it intuitively but I don't think it ended up as easy to understand as we'd hoped. The messed up dash button hitboxes don't help either 😅

Something we changed for the next version is only displaying the "normal" controls up to the dash level. In the first dash level, we only allow the right dash to be bound, and all the dashes "unlock" after that.

super interesting mechanics and i love the art, cool game : )

Really unique idea. Its a bit cumbersome to get into it with the controls, but the music and art style keeps you motivated. Definitely a good game here.

I really like both the art and the idea for this game! I think this can become something really good with some more polish and development! For improvements, I think having a little bit more feedback for when you die would be good (like screen shake and starting over) and maybe a light that shows which of the commands you've put in goes first. I'm guessing it starts from the top and goes to the bottom if you have two movements bound to the same key, but it would be nice to know for sure! Well done!

Developer

 Thanks for the feedback! :)

We've updated the game to make dying more obvious with SFX, having the player move to the invalid tile that killed it, and having the level auto-restart after one second.

As for the order of commands, they go in the order that you bound them. We weren't really sure how to show that, since a light would work to show the first command of two, however the player can bind as many controls as needed. We definitely need to look into how to show that in a clear way.

A very unique idea!

I like that you explained the mechanics on your page very well with these nice animations. With your game you turned those really easy looking levels into very hard ones where you carefully have to think about every move you make.

The only thing that is weird is that I could not be able to select the dashes. And in the level with the hole you need them right?

Nevertheless a very nice idea with cool mechanics. Keep it up!

Developer

Happy you enjoyed it! We're proud of how the level design worked out into hard yet deceptively simple looking puzzles. :)

The hitbox for the dash buttons is smaller than it looks visually, it's an unfortunate quirk of my custom engine. You have to click more to the left (on the "dash" text rather than the square). This is fixed for the next update!

It took me a while to figure out that you could add more movements after starting to move, but when I found it, I understood the possibilities of puzzle that it brought! It's so ingenious!

Submitted(+1)

It is a very unusual concept. Took a little bit of time to figure out how to play, but got a lot of fun after that. Well done.

This is a really interesting idea and very well executed. It's especially impressive that no common engine was used! A bit much on the text-tutorial but thats to be expected from a jam game.

However i still encountered a bug where the program could not be closed and it actually froze. It's a minor issue since it did not affect the game itself but you should know of it.

Developer

Thank you! I agree that the tutorial could be much better, so we are working to improve it for when we can update the game. Could you let us know what circumstances caused the program to freeze? Thank you for letting us know about the bug.

really fun puzzler with a really good presentation. could use a bit more explanation

Developer

Happy you liked it :)

We're working on an interactive animated tutorial for the V1.1 release, hopefully that helps make it more accessible.

An amazing game! The mechanics are really unique, and the art is nice. As already mentioned in the description, the last 3 buttons only work when you press on the text, but other than that, it's a really cool concept that can definitely be expanded into a full game.

Developer

thank you!! We definitely want to expand the amount of levels!

The buttons are fixed on the upcoming day 1 patch ;)

This is amazing and I am not being pressured by our tentacle overlords to write this review. My script says that the core mechanic is awesome and very well executed send help I'm trapped in ink the levels are wonderful and the last one especially terrifyingly evil plusgood.

The tutorial needs to include info about chaining controls waffles.

Developer

oh sorry about the tentacle overlords, that was unintended

Oh man this is great, the music and the art fits together perfectly and it's got a really unique mechanic! Really good stuff!

Edit: I got a waffle!

Developer

Congrats on the waffle!! Happy you enjoyed the game :)

Really nice puzzle game, it was rewarding playing untill the end, i would love to play more different levels and maybe different mechanics! this game has really good music as well!

This is fantastic. I've not seen a puzzle game like this before. It's designed so well that you could make a ton of really interesting puzzles just with the mechanics you already have. Plus you went far out of your way to make it look so much more interesting than it needed to be.

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the puzzles. :D

A very visually and mechanically interesting game! I love seeing these funky takes on a theme, they really show how much you can explore in such a short amount of time!

One thing I really wish is that the crt effect was toned down just a little bit and the size of the monitor was boosted a little.

Great game though!

Developer(+1)

aw thank you! I am proud of the mechanics and how we used it to design the levels, esp since it's our first game.

We initially planned to have a more complex ruleset that worked better with the chromatic abberation and CRT cell effect, but I think you can guess what happened given the upload time 😅. ~~be glad we got rid of the scanlines effect~~

I've toned down the CRT shader some for the day-one update (the settings are in /res/ShaderData/CRT.frag) and also zoomed into the level more. Thanks for the feedback!

really neat idea! My brain melted a couple times lol

My only feedback would be that the controls (i.e the eyes) are a bit too far off the screen, and the actual map is a tad bit too small, so it feels like there's a lot of empty room, but other than that it's great!

Developer

I am glad you liked it!

We planned to have larger levels so we zoomed out the CRT's view to fit them, but we ended up staying small. Definitely plan to scale everything back up for the day-one update when were able to update it, thanks for the feedback!

Chalking out a path in your head and mixing buttons for it is so neat. Love the wacky art and the player sprite. Was this made with irrlicht? Is the title homage to Octodad <3

Developer

Thank you! I love the concept we came up with. (//∇//)

We adapted a custom 2D/3D engine which I developed last year for a different project. I'm planning on making the source code public, just have to work out a few kinks beforehand.

Octodad is cool. But I don't think so? You'll have to ask 2FoamBoards, they drew the game art ^^

Developer(+1)

I haven't played Octodad, but I watched a stream of it and it seemed pretty fun. :) The title is to be a portmanteau of "octopus" and "puzzle," as the the two share a "puzz" sound, but I may have unconsciously thought of Octodad when thinking up the name. ^^

Submitted(+1)

I really like the art style :)

And the name is so creative

Also, nice puzzles !!

Developer

Thank you!!! :D

Amazing game and great art style! The controls are unlike anything I've seen in a game before! Also managed to speedrun the game and beat it in 2 minutes 26 seconds! Really fun puzzle game! Would recommend it!
