Glad I got to play this before voting ends. Super cool game.
I love it, especially the fast-paced combat with flashlight mechanics!
Really really cool rogue-lite style of game!
I'd love to see it taken to the next level with upgrades and such!
I had so much fun playing and completing Battle Buddies! The mechanic of managing your magically self-replenishing flashlight battery power (is the character carrying a power pack and charging it??), the position of your invincible battle buddy, and your own hurtable self makes for a hectic, thrilling experience.
My favorite part was picking up the power cell and getting swarmed by the enemies seemingly from all sides, and barely making it out
unscathed! One thing I would have loved to hear is some music, though with this being a game jam and with the amount of polish that went into everything else, I don't think it strongly affects my feelings about this amazing game.
Best game so far! Well done!
Such a fun game! Very intuitive to understand what to do. I think the only critique I can say is what someone else commented...how it's not much different than having the character simply auto-shooting. Perhaps adding parts where you have to separate from your partner would make this game feel more unique in that way. Other than that, great work with this game! :)
The presentation and fun are through the roof on this game. A very solid experience that felt like some of the old great top down 2D shooters found in the NES and SNES libraries. I played it here:
Teamwork makes the dream work!
The art style is extreeeemely reminiscent of Nuclear Throne, a game I'm quite fond of. The only thing about Nuclear Throne however is that it's full of enormous particles and crunchy, visceral screenshake, which I felt was sorely missed here.
I really enjoyed the core mechanic of shining a light to help your buddy shoot. Managing the battery level and carrying the power core was a pretty fun gameplay loop.
I felt that the enemies move slightly too fast however, not giving me much time to react to seeing them (I didn't play it fullscreen, maybe that's why?)
Also, no music! That was something I also felt was sorely missed.
A really fun little game though, good job!
This was a nice crunchy game, with a really fun loop. One tiny suggestion would be to maybe have the character with the gun move around and away from the other guy more often, since then the player would have to think about spacial awareness. By having him so close, it really does feel like you're the one shooting and not another character. Great job overall!
Nice job, an interesting idea and pretty well done.
I want a battle bubby who's this loyal!
I'm sorry, but the theme connection is not good at all. This is really no different to just having one person, with auto shooting. The conversations between the two are not a big enough part of the game. It was fun to play and the art/music is good, but unfortunately
Hey, I appreciate your feedback, I understand why you maybe find it that way. :)
I'm sure you've gotten a ton of messages about this game being superb, but I don't have anything else to say but this was fantastic. Great job all aroud!
Wow this game is a gem! Nice idea! Fav++
I love this idea! Having something else shoot while you light the enemies up is a great idea. The extra added twist of them being attracted to the light was even better. there was tons of polish in the game, the gun felt satisfying ( despite not actually being the one shooting). Great Job with the one!
What a great game! loved the quick speed of the whole thing, paired with the simple mechanics i immediately understood what i needed to do! Loved the link to the concept, and really impressive collection of art, animation and programming! Great work!!
Hey, thanks a lot, first when I saw your name, I thought I was tripping that my own game commented :D
Very fun game!
I think it would be better if turning on the flashlight and picking up items is handled by the mouse buttons.
This was a pretty cool concept and it looks amazing!
Cool idea and amazing execution!
Wow. Just amazing.
