About Karma system. Until then, play mine and I will play and give a feedback on yours

Hello guys. I was wondering, there could be a karma system like the one from Ludum Dare, what do you think?

For whom don't know how their karma system works: the more you rate + give feedback on other's game, the more karma points you have and thus your game appear higher in the list of entries.

If you agree that this would indeed be a good thing, to increase the chances of a mod actually seeing this suggestion, please comment and like the thread that I've created on the itch.io community: https://itch.io/t/527869/karma-system-for-the-game-jams (even if they approve this, it would take a while for them to add this feature, but it would be used by future jams)

In the meanwhile, we are kind of obligated to either spam our game link (which feels a bit meh) or to create posts like this one. I'll play, rate and give feedback on any game that gets shared here in this post, it would be nice to have you playing mine too.

A karma system would be amazing! I will play yours soon.

Yeah, it would be a good thing, I'll also post in their (itch.io) forums suggesting it.

Thanks for sharing btw, I'll play it later today once I get home.

A Karma System is a great idea!

My game is called One Shot In The Chamber, a wave based survival game where you must fight off hordes of enemies with the catch being, you have only one bullet. Fortunately, the bullet is magic and you can summon it back to you or teleport to it. Using this unique ability, you must survive as long as possible in the chamber. Here is a screenshot of the game and the link to the game page: https://mark-auman.itch.io/one-shot-in-the-chamber

awesome, I'll play, rate and give feedback once I get home later today :)

What is a karma system?

Here is our puzzle game inspired by chess, where you control the knight only! Give it a try!

Wow! your game looks good!
I'll be playing it later today once I get home.

I don't recall seeing a detailed post about it in the ludum dare community, but if you look at their rules (http://ludumdare.com/compo/rules/) and search for "Coolness", you will see their quick explanation about how this system works.

But basically, every entry has a "coolness" value that increases as the player rates and comments on other's entries, then in the listing of the entries there will be a filter called "Smart Balance", which lists the games based on two things: Their coolness - amount of rates/feedback that they received. This system kinds of "Guarantee" you to receive more or less the same amount of feedback and rating that you've given without the need to create posts like this one. btw, the next ludum dare will be early October, if you have never joined I would highly suggest you give it a try:

I'll give it a try for sure :D

Thanks for the infos, it looks like a good system! Itch.io should really implement one as well for any jam!

It really is! I've received over 50 feedback comments on some of my LD entries, which is very good!
I've created a thread suggesting they add the exact same system here, it would be very nice if they did:

Gonna go through this list and play the ones I haven't already in a moment.

In the meantime, would love it if you guys had a look at our entry - https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/462587

And yep, the Karma system would work really well with a bigger jam like this one turned out to be - I don't think itch had one so big yet, so I guess they were a bit underprepared. Can't really blame them though.

Awesome, I'll play your entry later on.

I've created a post suggesting this karma system on the itch.io community, let's hope the implement something similar:

Liked your post there, hope it makes it somehow more visible. Still, I doubt any major change like that would be implemented during this Jam, more likely we'd see it in place for the next GMTK / another big itch jam.

it would be a good thing for future jams, those systems does take a while

That's a great idea; I feel like Ludum Dare do a good job of game visibility, especially when there are thousands of entrants. I'll give your game a go this evening, looks interesting.

I made an "autowalker" game where you have to guide a sleeping robot to safety by activating platforms and barriers, but only one at a time of course! I'd really appreciate your feedback on it.

Yeah, it's kind of a "problem" with an working solution out there, there is no reason not to use the same solution, I've even created a post over the itch.io community suggesting a similar approch:
https://itch.io/t/527869/karma-system-for-the-game-jams

Thanks for sharing your game, I'll play it later today once I get home. I'll leave a feedback as well.
