Neat generator! I included it in my GMTK Game Jam 2019 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

This was really cool and unique! Wonder if it'd be possible to save out or even print the sacred text at the end, so that I may record the teachings of the Conqueror God Optimus Prime for future generations.

As someone who recently tried to develop an overcomplicated background for the fake cult they were making but ended up just causing a schism, this game would have come in handy. Oh well, better late than never. Super original game, very fun to just mess around with the small details and see what happens. And the parchment+retro text aesthetic is perfect for the concept and nice to look at.

This is fascinating! Very original.

Not entirely sure if this fits the theme well, considering that "one message" and "one divine act" counts as two actions. Still, delivering a message of kindness & having my worshipers become successful was satisfying.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it! I see the message as defining the parameters of the game, and the act as the actual input. Sort of like picking a level, and less like acting within the game system.

A lot of fun and super original! I really like the take and it almost feels like it's supposed to be an educational game.

Thanks! We based the game off a class we took on the development of the Abrahamic faiths  from 500BC to 500AD (though for the final game we tried to also pull in elements from other religious traditions), so while it wasn't made to be explicitly educational, a lot of that came through I think.

I feel like all the best games, especially those inspired heavily by real life, come off as very educational.

Found your game via Mark's stream! Really interesting to see a story generator rather than a more conventional game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Story generators are a lot of fun, and my teammate had a lot of fun writing all the text snippets.

This game felt super unique! It was fun to try out different combinations and acts to see how everything plays out.  As a history lover, I also loved the advancing timeline and the schisms in the faith that would occur.

Glad you liked it! As a fellow history nerd, I'm glad it spoke to that :)

I don't really know what is going on but I'm going to play it a few more times to find out. I didnt enjoy the story of the The Cunning Fox of the Cosmos, Steve. This was really well done.

Playing god is hilarious when your followers include various rowdy sects of random blasphemers. Seriously, I played this a few times and actually "won" (that is, the Text was mostly faithful!) once, most likely more by random chance than divine intervention. Looking forward to playing some more just to see how many ways the faithful can go astray -- or (code willing) find the true path.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

It's possible for a sect to find the true path, but a bit difficult :)

not only is this a super cool, polished-feeling game, it also gave me all kinds of complicated emotions about history and religion and identity. fantastic work!

Developer

Thank you!! Really glad that a dynamically generated story was able to have that effect :))

This game super super unique and fun! I felt like my followers were rebellious teens and I had to corral them. Also love the scroll icon.
