I wasn't expecting such game at all. One of the most original concepts I've seen so far. I love how things escalated quickly. The dialogues are pretty spot on and it gives lots of character. Amazing game!

Naww, shucks Grizzlius! You're making us blush!

I played through once with a pretty average amount of no's, then my second play through I had cops calling me Nancing Queen. In short, that was great. ;)

P.S. Doo doo do doooo dooodooodoodo dooo do is definitely my favorite song.

What a crazy coincidence! It's my favorite song too! Have you heard the other one they did, the one that kinda goes: dododo doo doo, dododo doo doo?

Look, I get asked the question of 'What is Game?' a fair bit these days. And now I have an answer - it's Negative Nancy.

I may have been shot by the police for refusing to pay for a coffee, but by golly did I have a great time doing it (and a laugh or two along the way!!)

Feeling really inspired to start saying 'no' in my day-to-day life now! But, ironically, this game gets a big 'YES' from me!!

Glad we could provide an answer for such a quandary! Thanks Zerozil!

When I saw the theme of this year's Jam I was definitely sceptical about how people would make experiences that were anything more than 'an interesting concept' that felt incomplete. But to my expectations, this game said...

"No"

The simple yet charming art-style, combined with the one-button game-play, doesn't limit the game, but gives it room to grow and lean on its strong and relatable writing (especially if you've ever worked retail or hospitality) to create an immersive and at times cathartic experience that had me chuckling the whole way through.

I would love to see this developed into a full length game so I can throw some money at it.

5 stars!!!

P.S. That song is going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the week, daring me to say 'Hmmmm...No' to the next customer that asks for a refund.

Glad we were able to provide you with a cathartic experience, Rojan! If we find a way to exorcise the theme song from your brain, we'll let you know!

This game is funny and charming! 5/5 stars for Negative Nancy!

Thanks S-Money!

I may start using these tactics at my day job, thanks FEED!

Awesome, KidCloudy! We won't be held accountable for which ending you get in real life, though..

Awesome, awesome, awesome! First i threw in jail my coworker, cuz that fam wasnt having a future with party planning, and then i managed to get the best ending and Nancy had a good day! Even after somehow being interrogated by an Ahole who gets in your face (i found that very funny!) and almost being shot, which i actually did at my first playthrough.

One little bug that happened was my game just paused and didnt want to continue the dialogue so i had to restart.

Amazing game as whole! Well done!

Excellent work on the best ending!  If she was going to have a future with party planning, she's certainly not anymore! We'll be putting up a version with that dialogue crash fixed in the near future, we'll let you know when it's up!

Enjoyed the game the first time through, but then I kept getting stuck in the café with the co-worker. Will watch for the fix!

Yeah, we were shattered that bug slipped into the jam build! We'll comment here again for you when the fixed version is hosted on our page.

Haha it's so fun to just deny the heck out of every one, great use of the only one concept!!

(+1)

Thanks Chowdog! Glad you enjoyed complete and total denial!

Pretty neat actually :) Would work nice on mobile as well, if it keeps telling a nice storyl.

Thanks!  We wanted to add mobile support but our WebGL build wasn't working at the end of the jam. Hopefully we can add it soon!

When i read that it was a 1 button game i was like... MMMmm Okay...

But after 3 play throughs i realised that there is a little bit of choice in the game. And honestly it was worth it just to see some of the dialogue options.

The visuals are great, i love the character design,  and the backgrounds are simple but do exactly what they need to do.

The music is a very chill fitting track for each conversation.

But honestly, i give the game 6/5 stars just for using the line "Chower Quarter Hour"

Honestly, go check it out.

Good Stuff guys

Thank you CroboFingers, hope you had a perfect day! ✔️

Very funny game actually had a laugh out loud moment, "fo real". Great design and loved the different outcomes you get through multiple play throughs!

Thanks Clericraft, fo real!

What a hilarious game, the dialogue was spot on, it cleverly closes branching dialogues when it needs but leaves enough opennes to feel like Nancy, i found a bug when talking with the coworker and the game just stood there still. I'll be like Nancy and tell it like it is, the game was funny and deserves to be played if you are into comedy, when a dev has fun making a game it shows and this looks like they had a blast.

On theme is spot on, you only have the ability to say no but that opens up a lot of possibilites in-game.

Originality, a fun visual novel with good comedy and dialogues is not something you usually see at a Jam.

(Spoilers) In the end, i chose Nancy to be a rebel by telling it like it is and confronting authorities with a fork and knife, totally mental.

Thank you for detailed review Ignacio Garcia!

(Spoilers) That wasn't the end if you didn't want it to be ;-)

Very great design! I got two endings but I am not perfectly sure if one was the perfect one. Well anyways, I had plenty of fun! Not only the plot, but also the presentation and the "No. No! No~ ..." was hilarious. Thanks for this very cool interactive fiction!

Thanks Painttist  🤙

You'll know you've had a perfect day when Nancy checks it off her to-do list. :-)

Hey, so real talk? I have a pretty strict criteria for my ratings. Call it a side effect of having to rate quite a few things in my time. As a rule, three stars is average, that's where you start, four stars is pretty good but didn't blow me away, and five is cool enough I'd tell my friends about it unprompted. I don't give out a lot of fives. I've probably given out less than five fives in this whole jam accross all three categories combined. You gotta work for a five. Five is something you get when you've done so well I remember you the next day for it.

This game got fives accross the board. I am charmed. How did you do that? There was even a progress-halting, game-breaking but which I even encountered more than once and you still got fives. I even tried to justify arguments to make some of those fives fours, but you know what happened every time I tried? A small voice in my head told me

 "No."

Hilarious game, great writing and art, fantastic design. Near perfect! I wish some of the waits for the No's were a liiiiittle quicker, but that's really my only complaint. Amazing game!

Thanks for the kind words, Picross. <3

We had a bit of a dilemma on the "no" timeout because we wanted to make sure that slower readers would have ample time. We will add a right-click hold to speed up the timer in the next release. :-)

Got quite a few laughs from this game. It's an interesting twist to interactive fiction. Well done!

Thanks for playing, Infernal Spirit. <3

This was really fun! Only ran into on bug (Cafe as someone mentioned earlier) once. Would love to see more of 'Nanchester United' in action.

Thank you for the kind words, Vershokk 🙏

Love this game!

Thanks! Did you manage to have a perfect day?

Cool game. Not sure if not saying no is another choice? But got up to the lunch break, and I think the game stopped working after the line about having it all figured out; I could still move camera, but no new text appeared. Was enjoyable reading the dialogue of the customer and the Nancing Queen guy.

(1 edit)

Thanks for playing, AstroKite. When the "no" option appears you can wait for it to time out instead of clicking to give no response.

We'll release a fix for the café bug soon! <3
