I feel like this could be a very good mystery game. I like the atmosphere you were going for, however i found it very difficult to progress since it seems that there's many invisible walls i cannot pass through.
The painting on the wall in the room on the left of the entrance is on the wrong layer and goes above the player when walking next to the wall.
After I died the first time i could not pass through any doors and was stuck in the hallway. The right side of the hallway had collision a solid 1m in game away from the wall.
I downloaded the zipped version. That could maybe be the issue, maybe the installer one works better?
One recommendation I can give for future jams is try to make a WebGL version. There needs to be a very low barrier to entry for players to try your game. I know WebGL sucks and you have to optimize and sacrifice for performance sake, however it's very worth it!
Good luck with the bug fixing. hope you can do it before voting ends!
Good submission!
Really liked the atmosphere, sound design, and storytelling. Very creepy scary aesthetic an good use of post processing and other tools to give a perfect vibe.
Good to see you have managed to iron out a load of bugs :) clearly you have put in a lot of good effort into this
I've streamed your game :)

This game has such a cool atmosphere! There is so much potential here! Unfortunately, I ran into similar issues as a few others - I was able to walk past a door on the left and right, found a key, and got accidentally left the mansion, getting ending 1. When I tried again since I did it so quick, I actually got to see more of the atmosphere and effects as you ran out of fuel. I was not able to leave the main room though, even with stairs there, there was nothing else for me to do...
1) Biggest feedback is to find why people are getting stuck and playtest that part some more
2) Sometimes when reading the same notes, different words would get highlighted with the red special text, and other times, the same words would not. Just letting you know in case you didn't already!
3) The fuel gauge does not fit with the continuity of the rest of the game
I am nitpicking with something so small because you are doing a lot of things right here! Super cool and interesting main menu, great ambience, sound, music, etc. This is awesome, so good job!
Hey thank you for your feedback! Yes i am aware about the ending randomly starting, but the walkign thru the doors is intended as some doors are not locked, and the bug with you finishing the game randomly, I already found the bug, the notes are made to do that, and could you tell me how did you get out of the mansion? like phisicaly? or the ending and the stairs would get you to the next level, but i did not have time to add them, maybe after the jam, With the being blocked, I know if you finish the game you cant do anything anymore, you can Press R if you get stuck as it resets the level and then you can play after you won to copmplete the other endings
Good to know! Was the "press r" a leftover from playtesting?
II was not sure the doors were something I could walk through, especially since I could not repeat that, so something to keep in mind.
The words in the book were cool - something I might to try in my next game!
I got the ending after getting the key in the right room and going back to the main lobby. I didn't go very far down after getting to the lobby when the ending popped up. Hope that clarifies things for you - if you need me to playtest or help with debugging, let me know!
I didn't make it very far unfortunately--I think I exited out of an invisible door in the right side of the starting room and got "ending 1". When I tried to replay, I couldn't walk through any doorways or find anything to do, despite seeing what looks like two unlocked doors and a stairway to exit the starting room.
The description and environment have me excited to play, so let me know if there's a bug fix patch and I would happily try again!
The death animation is very cool. I might have encountered a bug. I seemed to have escaped without doing anything. The ending was something like: "You escaped through the door, what a gentleman." but I was standing in the middle of the room. Anyway, thanks for the jump scare ;)
Ok I'm making the comment first and then will rate later.
Why?
Because as soon as I started this I knew I was really going to like it, so I've added it to my collection for my next stream and will play it properly (and subsequently rate it) after I do that stream.
Interesting that you have used Game Maker for this, I'm getting the impression that with Gamemaker you can focus less on the technical stuff and more on the art and the story, if so that's pretty cool and I might recommend it as a game engine for people with less coding background.
Looks awesome but got stuck trying to get out the second room at first and then trying to get back in. Could be a bug but otherwise the sounds are really cool. Gives a really eerie type feeling. Well done.
The storytelling was really good, enjoyed the art as well, especially the text effects on the screen when you were low on fuel. Fun gameplay experience
The story is excellent. The graphics kind of made my eyes hurt. When I went to play it a second time the controls would not work and I was stuck at the beginning.
Also, I wasn't crazy about installing other things on my computer. A standard zip file with everything in it would be better.
Thanks for the game play. I might try again
Nice game, love the storytelling. Took 8 tries to really know where to go from the beginning to the main key. But after getting out of it, nothing seems to happen? Do I need to trigger something, as I was looking forward to the endings...
Quite a hard game with the time constraint from the fuel & the outer light getting faded too soon, just makes it hard to navigate. The colliders are too tight, too...hence the 8 tries.
Nice game! It is a little hard to navigate with limited viewing space and the post processing blur. I too faced the same bug as RPickard,, where once the level restarts after you die, the character is not able to move. The art and music are good! Good job overall!
