This is a well-polished and interesting project! I love that you based your project on historical events. It has a very clean look, and the controls are easy to learn. Good job!

Really great entry. Nice retro vibe. And the setting is perfect.
Cool game! I felt like I was playing a lost retro classic gem or something you really nailed a great aesthetic here!
The art style is great. shooting mechanics are smooth. The melee combat is also nice.
I had fun. Great job on this one!
Just had a bit of the play.
Nice game unlike mine you got the combat down nicely. Reminds me abit of the fighting in Sword of the Samurai when you break into rival enemies castles... or as they used it later in Miami Hotline games.
Great art and stlyle and level layout. Sound effects were effective as well... i died trying to run though fire lol!
Maybe some music would have been nice and more sound effects for soldiers and tribesmen to sell the feel a bit more.
Overall though very impressive what you achieved.
Thanks very much for playing and your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I shall give your game a try.
Yes I wish we were able to put some music in the game, unfortunately it's not our forte and ran out of time to find anything suitable.
We definitely do need more sound effects for the soldiers and Zulus. We do have plans to add a lot more polish and expand the game after the Game Jam is over, and turn it into a full game.
Cheers
Haha thanks for playing, and thanks for playing it on your video too. Although you didn't fight back when the Zulus attacked you. Press space or the south button on the controller to fire your gun, or get face to face to them and press fire for a bayonet attack :)
I hope you will try again and make it past chapter 2.
Cheers
Please help me the game didn't seem to work on the browser?! I'm stuck at the beginning of the game :)
Hello, I'm sorry to hear that. Can you give me more information about what you are seeing when you try to start the game?
As the game is working for other people I think maybe there is a setting on your browser that would need changing for it to work? But any modern browser should work without the need to change anything, as long as the browser is kept up to date.
Really neat art style. Stories from real life are fun too. I got pretty lost at the start even with the marker, not knowing which door would allow me to the marker. Nice job overall though
I really liked the blending of storytelling and gameplay. Good job!
It's a cool idea and implementation but I can't get past chapter 2.
3 times now I've killed all the enemies I can find but it doesn't progress to chapter 3.
Also it's a minor thing but I noticed that you are faster when you move diagonally. You can fix that by normalising the movement vector.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it.
Apologies for Chapter 2, I know they tend to wander off a bit which can make the last one annoyingly hard to find (a bit like the original Command and Conquer haha), and I've blocked them from moving to the sandbag areas (though they can still wander inside the building up to the steps, then they are blocked) but they are all still killable and chapter 3 does load. I'll see what I can do about making Chapter 2 a bit easier.
But here's a tip, when you start the chapter get to the marker quickly and you can camp their spawn point.
I can't say I noticed the player moving any faster diagonally (unless moving along walls) but I'll take a look at normalising the vectory. Thanks for the tip.
Cheers
I seemed to kill everything in chapter 2 but it wouldn’t advance to the next one, perhaps showing in a form of ludonarrative consonance the futility of imperialism. Sounds like chapter 3 had some cool mechanics based on the actual story of the guy. Gameplay wise it felt very old and nostalgic in a good way, though I couldn’t find a way to actually make use of the fact that I could shoot through the holes in the walls. Creative mechanics overall!
Thanks very much for your feedback.
Apologies about the Zulu vanishing in chapter 2. He either ran through the building and was hiding around the sandbags somewhere or exited the map entirely due to a buggy tile collider, both of which have been fixed.
The holes in the wall are a bit tricky to make use of, but if you can kite the enemy to follow you, you can run into the building and shoot him as he goes past. If we had more time we would have created more situations in which you could effectively use them.
I hope you will be able to play again and make it past chapter 2.
Cheers
Good game, sound effects work well and the delayed firing/reload time helped to make it challenging
Nice game, was a little confused how to beat the third level, could not do any dmg and could not get to Objective A, but I liked the mechanics of the game, thanks for the entry!
Thanks for playing and your feedback.
I notice you said you couldn't do any damage, do you mean damage to the walls? To break the walls you have to stand close to them and press attack in order to bayonet them. 3 bayonet hits will break the walls. Bullets are ineffective.
I hope you can try again and make it past chapter 3
I really enjoyed the combat in this. The delay when firing creates a risk which requires you to be a little more strategic to make every shot count. I also loved the retro aesthetic, made me nostalgic for some top-down shooters I remember playing on my NES as a kid. The historical setting was also really interesting. Good job!
Great game ! I found the gameplay quite enjoyable. The art and the historical background work amazingly well.
This was a challenging game, but it was fun. Good strategic decisions, and it definitely made me feel like a part of that moment in history.
