Nice one! Been a while since I played tetris and I really enjoyed playing again, felt like a very solid build. I also liked the story and atmosphere you placed it in, felt quite relaxing even if tetris is generally pretty stressful for me. Lovely job!
A very solid tetris game! I'm a tetris addict myself so I LOVED this game XD, Didn't really needed the last stand but it's a pretty nice addition for beginner players & to dig yourself out of sticky situations. The piece generation system seems a bit different than regular tetris (sometimes you just never get the line piece), also seems like you can't rotate pieces near the top so if it's over, it's over. The bonus score system was a pretty neat addition tho! Encourages faster plays & rewards faster players. Overall really nice job!
P.S. Just curious, what's the highest score you've seen so far?
I got to a score of 4323 and forced myself to stop because there are a lot of games in the jam I still need to take a look at!
I like the Last Stand mechanic that you introduced, I used it to dig myself out of a terrible situation at one point. For the most part the relaxed speed of the game let me play well enough, I'm normally pretty bad at Tetris but this version I did surprisingly well and only had that one spot of trouble.
Great musical choice, the song helped to keep me playing even though I kept telling myself "Okay, I should stop now..." :)
The only thing I'd note about the controls is that I had to keep pushing S to carry a block down faster, rather than holding the button. Lots of these games also have an instant drop button... but, honestly, that would definitely have landed me in trouble more than once, so maybe the reason I did better than normal was being forced to have more input on the downward movement.
[Edit] - I forgot to mention the bonus score system! That's also a nice feature, which I'm sure is a lot more valuable to skilled players of the game. I try to concentrate on keeping things as low as possible, but I've watched enough Tetris99 to know that strong players can build huge walls and then take them all down at once.
even without the bonus/extra features added… this is tetris, a game sold millions of times, now done within a few days in a jam. one of the biggest game hypes like 30 years ago… this is a good sign of how good technology evolved, that we can build classics within a few days again! you did well, very polished! liked it!
Aussie Aussie Aussie! :D Nice job. I love the music, it made this a very zen tetris experience! The only thing I wish I had was the ability to see which was the next piece to help with planning. I got a score of 2890 ^.^
As a Tetris enjoyer I loved to play it. The sound effect when you clear a line is so nice, feels like I'm in an action game! Good job!
Always enjoy playing some classic Tetris. Also, interesting way to incorporate the theme into the game. I was curious after initially looking at the game and thinking about how it would fit the theme, and I was pleasantly surprised by the row removal mechanic you've set up. Great job!
I love me some tetris! I don't mind about the difficulty scaling as others have mentioned because I get longer to enjoy the amazing music! This was a really great implementation. I like the idea of the Last Stand button, I decided to make it more dramatic by shouting "LAST STAND!" every time I hit it XD
Fun game! The music definitely makes it easier to get into a state of flow clearing lines. I appreciate the attention given to adding story aspects to a puzzle game.
It is very peaceful playing this, with the music and background. I enjoyed your take on tetris with the last stand mechanic. Well done!
ok, at first I was a bit surprised to see a rebuild tetris game after I remembered your last years creative outburst. but I think I can relate to wanting to copy from a classic properly. and even though it appears to be a simple game - I imagine it actually takes way more programming skills than a game that uses mostly unity's physics (at least that's how I felt when I did a match-three tutorial once - took me ages!).
extra-super-bonus points for the JindaByne story though. I will always support games that take place in the real world, even though the connection is a bit cheeky ;-)
Nice take on Tetris, creative interpretation of the theme. And I learned something about Australia! (And now I'm curious to watch the movie "Jindabyne.") Seems like an ambitious project for a game jam and you pulled it off.
A really well made tetris clone. I like the relaxing music and your story was interesting. The last stand mechanic was a really cool idea but it feels like it should be more costly, maybe the cooldown increases each time you use it?
Good old tetris. Liked the vfx and sfx, made it more epic. My only criticism is that difficulty is not going up, so it's easy to go on forever, especially with the F key.
