Such a great idea and really well executed! I really wish I were more skilful so I could experience the full story and all the abilities. Fantastic art work, music, and sound effects. It's so satisfying to hear the pop when you destroy the enemies, and the particle effects are just perfect.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying it out! Popping the enemies started reminding me of popping bubble wrap at some point :D

Was the slow enemy mode much help? It' a bit hacky in how it's implemented (basically just multiplied enemy pathing time by 2.5), maybe adding a flat amount would've been better.

this was super cool! i loved the art and the overall idea and presentation were amazing!. 2 points of feedback for you 1. the game was not easy! that's not bad in itself , but the amount of time it took to restart after losing made me give up after just a few tries. the vignette screen effect remained for me after re-starting

Developer

Thanks for giving it a shot and providing feedback! I could've sworn I'd finally stamped out the vignette not resetting properly, I'll check it out!

When retrying a stage, were you selecting the retry button? It should instantly reset the stage with zero delay. I realized the difficulty curve was a bit all over the place so I wanted players to at least have fast unlimited retries.

What a crazy idea! It's pretty neat and polished for a short amount of time. Really good job!!

What game am I playing? this is super duper awesome game! I'm really hooked to it. The game is super hard but really satisfying with music and mechanic. I like how the features being introduced in the story. That is superb! Great job guys!

I thought this was very cool. Reminded me of a mix between fruit ninja and osu. Maybe I'm just not used to this type of game but the cursor lagging behind made it difficult for me. But I've noticed a lot of games during the jam are really hard so maybe I'm just bad at game :(.

Really juicy game :). Really liked the art style

Absolutely wonderful!
The blue screen of death absolutly makes it!
Unique take on the theme, the direction, stellar work

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for trying out the game! I wasn't sure if anyone would ever see that blue screen effect. Your reaction to discovering it on stream made my night :D

Oh wow! first I thought I will never beat the second level - then third and 4th were kind easy but that paint bucket stage was too much for me xD
Very impressive game - mix of bullethell and rythm game I love the concept and it's so polished it could be complete!
For everyone trying this and thinking its hard, what it is - stick out the second level you get stronger after this and have 2-3 more levels to play!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for keeping at it! I think there are a lot of improvements that could be done in the early stages. I was still figuring out a lot of parts for how the enemy wave patterns would work.

This game is EPIC! It's well-polished and the gameplay is smooth like butter. I use my drawing tablet to play and still, too hard for me! Haha. Well done 👏👏👏

Submitted(+1)

The game is very immersive and makes the player want to win

Color me impressed (see what i did there) this was amazing. 5/5. I was almost tempted to grab my Wacom cintiq and see if i could cheese it haha. Awesome work!

Submitted(+1)

Cool game! The game looks and feels polished.
5 stars!

Can't believe how much you've achieved in 10 days! Really satisfying to play and the sound design is great. Your UI skills are really impressive.

I wasn't able to get very far as my mouse skills clearly aren't up to much, but the opening couple of levels alone blew me away. Great work!

Submitted(+1)

wow, incredible amount of detail and love at display! it's really cool to have it take place inside of a graphics program and than even have that story of a 2D character wanting to come alive... you made some great choices.

the only problem I have: I suck at it - like really, really hard. maybe it's because I play with controllors for the most part, but I just can't get my mouse to move fast enough to get past the second level.
here are some things I came up with to not feel like a total looser:
- the little blue target circle that follows the mouse is quite slow. is that really how it's meant to be?
- the actual hit box of the character is hard to understand - is it the smallest blue circle? is it a field between the blue circles? kinda hard to read.
- it makes sense to build up the choice of tools, but I feel like by using the paint brush only in the first levels, I only react to whats coming, without any strategy or descision making involved...

but again, that might all be excuses for being so bad at it. take it with a grain of salt ;-)

postscriptum:
I just gave it a try playing the game with an acutal drawing tablet and BOY-OH-BOY is that the way it is meant to be played, WOW!
It's not functioning a 100% because you always "paint" even if your don't touch the screen with your pen, and the lines kinda don't work at all for me, but the general feeling of painting was so, so much more enjoyable for me.

did you set out to make the worlds first drawing tablet controlled rythm game? because you absolutely should!

btw: I'm using a Huion kamvas 13 if that is any help to know

Developer

I joked with the artist that she could probably play it on her tablet! But it was definitely planned as a mouse and keyboard game. Though I realized pretty early on it might work well on mobile too (though it might be tricky if your hand is obscuring part of the screen?).

The cursor speed is something I revisited and tuned multiple times. It serves a few purposes:
- Give a constant speed regardless of the player's mouse DPI
- Limit the players ability to just blindly swipe around
- Prevent collider misreads. Even with continuous tracking there's a limit to how fast it can detect things.
- It's a bit like a stroke stabilizer / lazy mouse tool and keeps everything feeling nice and smooth.

I plan on uploading a longer gameplay clip at some point. I'd be interested to know if the cursor speed you see is different from what you experienced!

Her hitbox is the innermost blue circle, I probably should've made the pulses fade faster or start less opaque so it was clearer they're just an effect.

It's definitely more reactive at first. I really wanted to come back and polish those early levels more so they had clearer patterns that would build on themselves like in a Rhythm game, but I just ran out of time. I actually wanted to time the spawn patterns closely to the music's beat as well but again, time :(

Games like osu! and Muse Dash were definitely in mind when thinking about the mechanics, building spawn patterns, etc!

Thanks so much for trying it out and giving feedback! I love discussing this kind of stuff.

Epic, best I have played so far!

Cool concept, very original! As another commented, intense! Very responsive, and UI looks awesome, almost thought it was a "normal" program at first hehe. Well done!

Submitted(+1)

That was intense! :D

Very well done, loved the art style and concept. Awesome game!!

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game to play! Brilliant UI design! great job :)

Submitted(+1)

It’s so smooth and responsive! Fantastic game!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the UI! Also the concept and mechanis are very unique, good job!!

Submitted(+1)

When I first started the game I thought I'd somehow opened the wrong program, it's super professional looking.

The concept is really neat, unfortunately for me I'm really bad at this game. I can sort of get through the first stage but the second one is too much, there's one point where a line of enemies shows up on the left and right at the same time, very close to Aria, and they always finish me off. :(

I'd love to see more of the game and the other paint tools in action.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying out the game! You caught me at a good time, I was just getting ready to upload a new version (v092) with a bunch of bug fixes. I've included a 'slow enemy mode' button on the starting menu that should help!

Submitted(+1)

Great! I'll definitely take a look at the new version then! :D

Submitted(+1)

I did it!!!! Finally! It still took a ton of tries! The second phase and the final one are way harder for me than all the others, I did almost all the rest on my first try. Also when I finally finished the last round, there were still some of the growing enemies on screen, so they kept expanding and completely obscured Aria's final form. :P

Developer(+1)

Congratulations! That final stage has some nasty moments! And I'm so sorry to hear that happened, I realize exactly why too, I've fixed it now in v093 for any future players. Thanks for coming back to try it again!

Submitted(+1)

Thank you for updating it so that it became possible for me to finish! :D
