Lovely little story, great aesthetic, music, sfx, and story, well done!
I love this style of interactive story gameplay, and you executed it wonderfully! I love how the watercolour aesthetic plus the narration gave it a sort of storybook feel too, which made the story being told feel even more heart-warming! I loved playing through your game so much, thank you for the wonderful experience! Brilliant work, you two..!
I enjoyed playing the game. Inviting atmosphere and wholesome story, and the voice acting was nicely done. Overall, great job!
I had this on my list for a while, I'm so happy I got around to it. Wow!! First, I think you've definitely got the best story and voice acting of the jam. Insanely well done, I feel I should've paid for that experience. Thank you for making my morning :D
The art is awesome, and I think the fact that it was made with AI is just as impressive. I could never get Midjourney to generate something as nice as this. There are some small discrepancies with that though. Mainly with how the silhouette of the babu looked compared to his actual appearance, and then with how his parents looked. Other than that it's almost perfect. The music was beautiful as well, nicely done.
The game might lack in terms of mechanics, but it more than compensates for that with everything else. I would've loved a little walking animation for Dylan though, nothing too fancy just 3 or 4 frames.
Thanks so much for playing and for the kind words! Love that you had such a positive experience with it!
Completely agree on the lack of consistency with some of the images, I'm sure with a little more Midjourney know-how I could've made it work, the technology is incredible, but had to make do with what I had in the end. Likewise with Dylan's animation, I'm sure there's a way to get Midjourney to create a few frames of the same animation, but I couldn't make it happen. Would be really interested to see if other people are able to create basic spritesheets with it.
Really pleased you enjoyed it though, thanks again for taking the time to play!
Nice job! The game bring us in a super chill atmosphere! ;)
The artwork in this was amazing and the story book atmosphere created really stands out.
I was very worried when the babu first popped out of the egg that this was going to turn into a horror story. To be fair, I have no idea what a babu is, but thankfully they don't seem to eat people and dogs!
A really lovely story that's narrated with great care. I do think subtitles should be added because, despite it being very easy for me to hear every word clearly, not everyone playing this game will have sound on or necessarily be able to hear it.
Thanks so much for playing! Haha yes he seems safe enough for now, but let's not risk feeding him after midnight...
Appreciate the kind words, and completely agree about the subtitles. Would have loved to have included them but getting the timings to line up would have taken a little thought and I just ran out of time. Aiming to learn more about dialogue soon so I can speed up the process in future!
Wow what a unique and charming entry! The watercolor art and narration are great, like an interactive storybook. Great job!
Insanely beautiful art. I really liked the concept of your game. Great job!
The watercolors and the woodland ambiance combined with the soothing voiceover work make for a fantastic bedtime story! well done
+1 to other comments about not knowing WASD moved in the forrest. My only complaint
I knew I had to play your game when I saw this toothless like baby.
I like the story, the music goes really well with it. I let myself be carried by the story. Well done.
the children's picture book is my favourite aesthetic and was executed so well, so I was hooked despite not normally playing games without much feasible gameplay.
The little tidbits of dialogue that came from walking on various landmarks lended so well to the calming aesthetic along with the crisp audio and relaxing music, the narration was good, but as I'm sure you're well aware, could benefit from a better mic.
When i first entered the forest, I was clicking on things to look for logs because I didnt realise I could walk around for like 30 seconds, so maybe the addition of some subtle text saying "WASD to move" would be good. It didn't take away from the experience though.
Also the little fine touches of the player's extremely subtle walking animation, the leaf particles and the crisp walking sounds did not go unappreciated.
Overall your vision of a cute children's picture book aesthetic was clear and perfectly executed, you should be so proud of this. You have no idea how much this inspires me to make a game in a similar aesthetic.
Thanks so much for the kind words! Very much appreciated.
Yes the audio was a bit of a battle given that we only had phones to hand, lots of tweaking levels in Audacity just to get it to stand out in the mix!
Great idea regarding the movement hint, one of those things that seems obvious now you say it, but with no one to play test it you just take it for granted that people will know what to do. I'm also just realising I didn't put controls on the game page which won't have helped...
Thanks for pointing out the walking animation and particles, wanted to give the player some visual feedback considering everything was static images so I'm glad that came across, even if the WebGL build seems to have made the footstep audio glitch a little for some reason!
Thanks again for taking the time to play! Great work on your game, I loved it enough that I played it twice!
Really cute story with some great immersive sound, music and narration! Your generated art feels quite consistent and lends itself well to the story too. Nice work!
Cute. Also I've been enjoying seeing how people use AI for their games. Nice work! I wish the boulder and pond had colliders on them though to prevent the player from walking through them, as it feels a bit odd to be able to walk right over them. But still, it's fun to walk across this dreamy watercolor world.
Thanks so much for playing! Yeah I painted myself into a bit of a corner with the design as I wanted the logs and berries to scatter randomly, but it meant that sometimes they'd pop in behind an environmental object! Didn't want the player to get into a situation where they couldn't collect enough to progress, so had to shoehorn in a workaround, which was fading the whole object.
Live and learn! Thanks again, absolutely loved your game
A beautiful game. I was worried that the story might turn dark. Glad it did not. Nice work!
