Very fun game! Very interesting with the only one direction thing going on, plus points because I saw a cat! Nice music, nice sounds, nice graphics, awesome game!!
Yes, there was a cat :) Thanks for commenting!
What a lovely platformer. I was going to use coins as a score then on the end screen I realised that wasn't the point (though I did manage to get every one on that last screen). I can't really think of anything to nitpick on. Great job.
My score was lives: 15, cat: 5. I thought the pink guys were enemies at first, then I tried touching one :)
Edit: and congrats on your first game jam! Hopefully the first of many. They really are amazing for creativity and productivity.
Yep, I was definitely worried that people would confuse those critters for enemies. And I didn't want to add text to explain that. Glad most people figured it out. Thanks for playing and commenting! (I definitely am grateful for all the helpful and supportive comments for my first jam game.)
weird yet interesting concept, designing level where the player can only move in one direction is not an easy task, well done with the game
Though redoing the whole level just because I missed the door by a pixel multiple times is no chill at all XD
Sorry about that. :P
A breath of fresh air as i have spent a good majority of my time dyeing in game this jam! Very chill and music is very relaxing. I also love the simplicity of just using two buttons to control the entirety of the game. Great Work!
No dying was partially my interpretation of the "Life" part of the theme. Thanks for playing and thanks for commenting.
Fun game. Very chill.
very nice game, very cool concept for platformer, without fail condition. it was actually very relaxing. Nice one!
I think you are the first to refer to the no death aspect as having no fail condition. I like that. On retrospect, not having a fail condition simplified a lot of things when designing and coding since I don't have to worry about anything death related.
That was nice. That was really really nice. Not sure what else I should say that hasn't been said before. It was very relaxing but also forced you to think and learn how the little world works. There was one section that I kept missing the doorway and having to repeat the whole screen, which drove me a little crazy (the one with the repeating "stairs" to the top). All in all, it was a very enjoyable strange little journey.
Sorry about that. I am planning on tweaking the friction and/or speed a bit.
I don't think I've ever played a platformer like this, what a cool concept! I really enjoyed it :)
Glad you enjoyed it! :D
Trippy! This was alot of fun and the atmosphere you created was really great. I spent a lot of time getting lost! Loved the music and sound and loved the theme interpretation. Really great job.
I was definitely a bit torn when designing the level with the doors. I wanted the player to have a being in a maze/getting lost experience while not being frustrating at the same time. I can understand why some folks don't like it. Perhaps it could be done better. Thank you so much for playing!
I had lots of fun playing your game! Very impressive for being your first jam! I ended up trying to collect all the coins, and clearing the screen with all the coins took me a little while but definitely didn't make me annoyed. Would've liked to see the amount of coins at the end of the run too, and maybe a 20/how many aliens in total there were. The gliding of the character was a tiny bit annoying, but it also added to the difficulty of the puzzles. I have mixed feeling about it!
But yes, super nice submission!
Also, Godot <3
Thanks for playing! The subtle message I was trying to make is "Money doesn't matter, it's the people you meet." So I intentionally left out the coin count in the final result. But reading that you made all that effort into collecting the coins made me rethink that. (Oh I know, those 2 coins under the middle platform are possible but very hard to reach) I bet some other people would try to collect all the coins too, and I can see how it is a let down in terms of player experience when the coin count is not there in the final result. After the voting period, I think I might have the coin counter in the corner in the final scene, but leave it out of the final result.
With the 20/total, it is again intentional. For what ever reason I was thinking about how some folks marry only once in their lifetime while some others may get remarried 3 or more times. So at the end of their lives who did better? 1/10 marriages or 4/10 marriages? Again this is a game, having 20/total may actually make the perfectionist in some players to try again for the perfect count. I will have to think on this one.
And yes, I will tweak the friction and speed of the player a bit to see if I can improve the sliding.
Those are some very helpful feedback, thank you!
Brilliant. You nailed the vibe of just chilling through life and made a fun interesting platformer with a super interesting twist to it. So well done; I can't wait to see what else you create. : )
Thanks for the compliment!
This was really special. Simple, unusual mechanic that was developed through thoughtful level design into something really compelling. Love this one.
Thank you! I really like yours too.
Thank YOU! I just noticed you included mine on a post about your favorite jam games. I can't tell you how much that means to me, and frankly you inspired me to keep working on this game post-jam.
What a laid back game! I love it!
Thanks for you comment!
This game broke my brain a bit, nice idea for two dimensions
haha, sorry about that...
What lovely chill game! I really like the level design and interesting take on walking only to the right. Great Job!
Thank you for playing!
Great submission! I loved the hidden room with the cat! LOL
Glad you like that :)
Very well polished game! It was a bit confusing to me as well the first level, totally missed the double jump mechanic (manybe an indication that you can do that can help people not get stuck), but other than that very original puzzle. :) Well done!
Good suggestion! Thanks for the feedback. :D
This is well done. It starts out confusing, but intentionally so. First I was like - hang on, I can't go backwards and I was a bit against it because that's not what you expect from a platform puzzle type game. But I think it makes for an interesting design and puzzles so I definitely came around to it. I think it would be good to have the character stop just a little bit quicker after I release the key though - a couple of times I just slightly overshot where I wanted to stop and if you can go back on a regular game that's not noticeable but when you can't it's a little frustrating - nothing major though. The same with the going from one side of the screen to the other mechanic - at first it confused me as it's like walking into the abyss sometimes. But I also think that's intentionally so and I picked it up and liked it quite quickly. I didn't find any bugs. I did find a cat the meows nicely but I didn't stroke it as I don't know if it's had its vaccinations :)
After the jam, I will definitely see if tweaking the friction and/or the speed would help with that. Thanks for the feedback!
I really liked it once I understood it. I get why you chose the single directional movement and it really helped your puzzle design but it was an initial turn off. Still, I came around and really started to enjoy after making my way to a few doors. I didn't see any bugs or issues, awesome game!!
No problem, thanks for the feedback!
the mechanic with leaving the screen on one end and coming out the oposite is very nice
I'm not a fan of oly moving one way - yes it makes for cool puzzle ideas but it increases the leg work by a lot and the room with the many doors didn't help - at least I passed by the cat 9 times
