Theme interpretation
For me the theme was like the name of a hip drink. I always wanted to create a game in Zelda 2 style so I combined both. I wanted to integrate a lot more but unfortunately I spent more time getting to know the new engine.

I have always had trouble creating a good jump and collision logic. Maybe I can publish a revised version later.

Nice game. It was a bit hard because I felt lost in the world. I thought I picked up four ingredients but I couldn't finish the game. And you need to have velocity and acceleration in your jump logic.

Cool game! it definitely resembles Zelda 2 vibes :)

I like the minimalist art style, it works well between the mini-map and the 2d platformer view. I wish it could have a nice chiptune and some sound effects.

I managed to get the potion but I’m missing one secret though! I bet it’s somewhere in the small island :P

Well done!

🀩 Wow!! Super!!! Congratulations. I think you are the first. πŸŽ‰

Hint: Study the Zelda 2 map and you will find all three hiding places.

Thank you for your patience and thank you for playing my game to the end.

Uuuoo nice! I will take a look at the map and try to figure it out! Thanks!

Found them all! :)

Great art style and really enjoyed changing between top-down and sideways view.

Thanks for playing my game. Here is a small gameplay clip to refresh your memory πŸ˜‰

I liked the graphics style and the ingredients hunting :-)

It would be nice with some more animations for the top-down mode.

Nice art style.

I think I collected all ingredients, but I couldn't enter the hut in the center anymore... Is there a key, I have to press to enter?

Is it just me, or does the character really walk faster on the road and on certain terrains? I love these small details :)

Developer

Unfortunately I didn't include any feedback... but I can tell you that you don't have to press a button to enter the house.

Therefore you have probably found a secret but not yet all the ingredients for the potion.

As a hint, the Zelda 2 map shows you all the secret places I have built in.

You have noticed that correctly... depending on the surface, the running speed is different.

Thanks for the comment and for playing.

Hey there, the basic mechanics are great from map to 2d platformer, I could not find where to go though Find my video review below!

Thanks for playing my game and recording a video. It helped me to see where feedback is still missing.

cool game

another cool thing is what you used to create this game rust

missing music and animations in the top-down mode seems like the player just gliding through

Submitted(+1)

Nice entry, I found the four ingredients but then nothing happens? I can't find nothing more to do. You make me interested in gamedev in rust, I'll take a look. Graphics are nice, missing some sound and music for ambience. Good job anyway.

Developer(+1)

It is best to bring the 4 ingredients to the brewmaster. He lives in the hut.

Then you can also see how many secret hiding places you have found. πŸ˜Ž

It is great that I could enthuse you for gamedev in rust, then I have already reached my personal goal.πŸ˜‰

If rust is new for you, I can only recommend to read the official rust book first. It sounds strange but it is indeed so.

You will learn the philosophy behind it and it will make your life a lot easier.

As a game engine I can recommend you to start with tetra.

Thanks for playing.

Been a Godot enthusiast myself I'm learning about godot-rust bindings and I'm quite amazed. Thanks for the links anyway!

Love the simple pixel art style. Nice work, hope you keep working on it

Art is really pretty. Collected 2 ingredients I think but couldn't find access to the other areas. Definitely had some zelda 2 feeling, and the overworld reminds me of some older rpgs, great job on that! Overall a good game!

Really cute artwork and good animations in the side scroller sections. I liked the concept of the game but I wish there was a bit more to it. Maybe the overworld can have metroidvania style unlocks that you get by completing the side scrollers? Or maybe you find one ingredient at a time and bring it home and you get something to unlock the next section.

I wasn't able to find all the ingredients and some of the environment cues were hard to read. I had to figure it out by trial and error. Some audio would have really helped as well. There are free sound effect generators online, check some out - they would be perfect for this style of game.

Also love that you used Rust. I'm a rust enthusiast myself and would like to write more Rust since I don't really write it that much outside of little hobby projects here and there. Bonus rating point from me for your choice of language haha!

Developer

Thanks for the bonus points (rust is awesome) and the detailed review. I also wish there was a bit more.πŸ˜‰

Usually I always try to integrate music and sound effects, but this time there was simply not enough time.

The unlocking is a great idea but i wanted to have a world where you can go anywhere. Let's see if I can still integrate something similar.

Thanks for playing.

Dig the graphics, but I don't really understand anything about how to play this game. Sound was sadly missing.

Developer(+1)

I always throw my players in the deep end and let them find out for themselves what they need/want to do. πŸ˜Œ

Now and then it works, but often it doesn't work at all.

Thanks for playing.

I really liked the art, both the overworld and the level environments. I don't know if I collected everything or not but I explored every inch of the overworld I could access. I did have some issues with the collision, but nothing quite gamebreaking. I agree with tjm and a bit of audio would have taken the game a long way, I didn't feel a lot of feedback from the game.

Good entry though! Happy to have seen the art design!

Developer

Thanks for your review. For the revised version I will definitely add more feedback.

Thanks for playing.

The pixel art is nice, it mostly reads clearly despite the low resolution.

I think some simple audio would have helped the game a lot (if there was any I'm afraid it didn't work in my browser); even some simple 8-bit beeps and boops to highlight things like collecting items would make the player's progress a lot more clear.

Hope you had a good time making it!

Developer

Yes, I had a lot of fun creating my game. Unfortunately, I have spent too much time finding a game idea.

I still have a few ideas that I would like to implement and certainly still have suitable music and effects.

Thanks for playing.
