Theme interpretation
Circumstance requires a caravan to make the seemingly impossible journey across the desert. The near impossibility and crucialness of the mission ties to the moonshot theme of the game jam. With the flow of encounters being dictated by chance and the caravan weakening as the journey progresses, we hope to create the tension and suspense of a ‘moonshot’ mission.

Nice game, I liked the card type gameplay
There were some places where more indication would be better, like whenever a character deals / receives damage, or who is the active player
Good job overall

Hey there, I gave your game a try! Cool art, unfortunately I did not take enough time to understand the mechanics though. Nonetheless find my video review below:

Nice entry! The combination of a card game with party synergy is promising, although I think for a full game it would need a bit more card types and effects.

Graphics were nice, but the different styles clashed a bit. I adore the eel illustration!

The public domain sounds and graphics you used suited the game well.

Overall, great job making a game in a month!

Very interesting mechanics and survival atmosphere! Are you planning to do a deck-building system, getting reward cards when beating enemies?

Quite challenging, cool graphics and experience. Good job!

Thanks for playing! We started with the idea of having a full deck building but decided on instead treating the cards as supplies. The goal is to make play revolve around the caravan members, so for example a Medic would carry a pistol and some bandages. If a member were to die, then the deck would get smaller as the caravan can carry less.

After the third fight you get to recruit some new members who add cards to the deck. There's also the mechanic of members having effects when they tag in and out (green arrows) that we experimented with.

Wow! that sounds great, looking forward to see next iterations. Again, well done!

Really fun man!  Definitely flesh this out a bit more, I want more haha.  It would be awesome to see some animations in between fights and have some kind of non-battle gameplay.  also more variability in characters at some point, but a great jam entry.

Only thing is that this has nothing to do with the theme haha.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Definitely focused most of the time on this specific combat encounter design. We did interpret the theme as a 'seemingly impossible' task or journey, kind of pulling inspiration from FTL and Oregon Trail.

I literally thought this was a dope oregon trail reboot haha

You're really into something, this mix of deck fighting and rpg can get far. A bit more polish between fights and some introduction to the mechanics will be nice. The hand drawn characters are very good and the music too. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! There's definitely a lot going on, polishing the interactions would be a definite next step.

I like the writing and the graphics.  Could have done with something more in between fight sessions.

Developer

Thanks! We had some other en  encounter ideas we didn't get a chance to prototype.

Interesting gameplay, really liked the idea of combining turn-based rpg style gameplay with a deck of cards. There's a lot of potential for replay value and a high skill ceiling.

The UI was a bit hard to understand and it took a while for me to figure out the exact flow of the gameplay. Maybe a short tutorial/guided first fight would help out there. Fun overall!

Developer

Thanks for playing! There's definitely a lot going on, would definitely  want to polish the UX/interactions next. There's also some mechanics (like swapping) that are pretty hard to find.

Very nice graphics, music and gameplay, but maybe you can make the text slightly bigger since it's a bit difficult to read.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, appreciate the feedback :) Trying to learn Unity, text ended up being a lot trickier to work with than I originally thought.

Nice graphics! The gameplay was pretty fun, I do wish the UI was a bit more responsive in terms of visual cues. Otherwise it was fun to play! Well done guys!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! :) Agree, there's a lot going on and not always enough cues tied to it.
