Adorable concept! Really enjoyed playing this one. Unique idea, at least in my experience. Also really dug the music! It was fairly well balanced for such a short game, but some questions really go me sweating , made me drink my health potion all the time, but i managed to beat it first try, but it was really tense. Really nice character art! Also good idea with one monster dropping the answer to the nintendo power question, which would otherwise have been very difficult. :) Really enjoyed this one!

Nicely done! The isometric control is a little hard to get used to, but the questions are great and I loved what each character said before their battles. Truly a love letter to your audience!

Alas, it seems I am not as hardcore a retro fan as a vampire...

Incredible game! I love the quiz part (the question about the Game Boy Printer, thank you!), the 3d isometric is really well done, bravo! I've been thrown out of the castle a few times, I must admit haha. Only flaw: text bug on my Game Boy DMG , snif :p

Thank you so much for playing and for your words!

Indeed I realized the problem of the text memory in dmg late 😅.

I will make it compatible in the future because the goal is to make it a gb and gbc compatible game

This game has amazing art, the cut scenes were perfect, it was the most polished game I've ever seen on game jam! The quiz run was pretty good, just a lot faster than necessary, but it was still a great quiz.

I had a lot of fun and memorias. Character's are wonderful detailed, haven' seen any other isometric entry. Very interesting and fun.

One of my favorities!

Just let us adjust the timer. I have bad vision and cant even read properly if couldnt take my time, unfortunately :(
I understand that this setting could have implications in difficulty, though

EDIT:

After memorizing the questions, it got easier.

I would love to play more <3

Very refreshing to see an isometric game for the Game Boy. Also great music and artwork. My only complaint would be the timer. While I like that this makes the game more fast paced, sometimes the timer was barely enough time for me to read the question and all answers. I am not a native English speaker and probably not the fastest reader, which made the game harder for me than intended. I think it would be great if there were settings to give the player a bit more time for each answer. Also I was a bit bummed out when I collected 2 potions, used 1 and had 0. These are my only two minor complaints. Apart from that it's an amazing game!

the only thing holding this game back are the dreadful timer and that theres so few trivia,  i want more retro trivia!!!!

Developer(+1)

thank you! I had no time for more trivia 😂. I'll add more content after Shera's Music Party is completed

All of the other comments already expressed everything great that I'd have to say about the game, so that frees me up to get a little nitpicky lol. I wish that there had been a way to swap the directions for the isometric movement. In most isometric games, pressing up will move the character to the top right. Playing this game felt the same as playing an FPS game with a non-inverted Y axis when you're used to inverted controls. But overall, the game was awesome.

the mimc made laugh out loud omg - this was such a treat to play: i did not expect isometrics, but it was very impressive (i am just terrible at movement!) - i loved seeing many of my favorite games referenced here, esp DQ and Bubble Bobble - and the art is SO GOOD!! very entertaining and fun sprites: what a grand time!!

thank you so much for sharing and looking forward to future games!!!

this is SO cool!!! even though i read slow and am apparently not retro at all haha. i really like the tile-based movement and trivia as the battle mechanic, and the graphics are great! keep up the great work :)

Love that the fight mechanics are trivia! A really creative idea! Wish I could have more time I am such a slow reader lol

This game is awesome! I'm a big fan of trivia, so I really enjoyed this. Learned some new things too. Graphics are amazing.  I liked the Pokemon Gym battle style.

Amazing audio and visual presentation. I had a lot of fun going through the game. Timer a tad bit on the short side but it was already mentioned. Great game. Who knew I'd get that hyped remembering the GB screen resolution. x)

this is a neat lil game! The timer is a tad too unforgiving imo. I barely had any time to read questions so I had to half read, half deduce what the question is while also trying to answer. I get it's supposed to be part of the challenge, but a second or two more would make a world of difference, I fell.  The art is real good, loved how expressive the close up portraits are! good job!

Great stuff! The WarioWare bomb countdown gave me anxiety, a fun way to make it tense! 😅
