Amazing artwork! I like this style, the music is perfect for this kind of tavern game. Well done!

Great ArtWork!

Keep it up:)

Rated! Hope you will rate us back =)

The art is impressive good work. I didn't first understand what to do so would be nice to show the commands in game but except of that the game was nice!

Developer

We would have loved to, just we started running out of time and just needed to get something working at all first. We plan on polishing it a bit when the judging is over.

Submitted(+1)

I like how you worked with 2D lighting and the Pixel Art is really good as well, over all really good game. :D

Developer

thank you so much! We had so much fun working on it! Really appreciate the support

Developer

I figured using the 2D lights, considering they're just barely out of preview would be a fun tool to work with in the game, others have said the candles were a bit too bright, which I agree with and will tone down when we polish it up a bit after the judging is complete.

Wow the art work on this game is absolutely amazing. By far one of the best 2D graphics i have seen in any gamejam. Audio fits too. The shadow effect gives the game a very nice touch and makes it cosy. Respect, keep up the good work.

Developer (1 edit)

thank you so much!!! I had so much fun with the art and one of our coders did wonders with the lighting. Our musician was a joy to work with! We all had such a fun time with this project so glad you enjoyed it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback on the lighting. I wanted to use the new 2D lighting features of Unity's URP since it came out of preview not long ago. Glad you liked it. All the art credit goes to the one above me though, you really did a good job SBS.

I like your game. :) Graphics, musics and sounds are really nice! :)
It was a bit unclear for me at first what I have to do. But I figured it out fast. :)

I would really appreciate it if you could rate my game too! :)

Developer

thank you for the feedback and kind words!! We are working on making it more clear and really appreciate the input!

Developer

Yeah, lack of instructions was something we anticipated as feedback, and feedback that we have indeed gotten. Unfortunately the reason was time, a lack of it near the end. We had many other ideas that didn't make it in because of time, and a tutorial-ish thing was one of them. Glad you enjoyed it as well. It's late for me personally when replying here, but if I remember I'll check your game out tomorrow.

Oh this is nice! Graphically this is very stylized and polished set and the gameplay is smooth and feels good to play.

Developer

Thanks for your kind review, personally I thought the gameplay felt a little off, but glad you had a good experience with it. Thanks for playing.

I love the style of this game, but It would be great if all the ingredients were in one spot and the customers order text was a bit easier to see.

Developer

The ingredients not being in one spot was a largely intentional design decision. We have/had plans for more features in this game including things like hazards that make the process more intense, as it's pretty relaxing pace now with no time limit (obviously these hazards and such would be optional), but placing ingredients in various places will allow us when expanding this later to use the different locations to our advantage in creating various ways to inject some difficulty into the game.

The customer text in Unity was placed in the bottom right in te dark part of the wall so it was easy to see, and I checked on multiple resolutions and the scaling of the UI worked fine. When it was exported however for some reason that UI no longer matched what I was seeing despite me having tested it in the exact same resolution in the game, so the text ended up being in slightly offset positions and put into the brighter areas. If we had had more time we would have added text boxes above the characters, but we were rushing near the last few hours to finish connection the pieces and getting the game to be playable we had to take a few shortcuts with the UI and such.

Thanks for playing, and glad you enjoyed the art, https://sofa-bed-studios.itch.io/ worked hard on it.

a really fun experience, reminds me of overcooked but in expert mode where you are running around without a clue about what you are supposed to be doing. the gameplay is solid and the graphics are outright gorgeous! i would love to see a full game with the same mechanics!

9.1 / 10

Developer(+2)

Wow, thank you very much. Overcooked is a great game it's so nice to get a comparison to it even though I don't really feel the game deserves it in its current state. Thank you for your review.

Wow these are some incredible visuals! I love them!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! So glad you enjoyed them!

The presentation is spot on, super cute artwork; shame about the UI, but sometimes you can't help it.  I think that things could be a explained a tad more--like which ingredients add savory flavor, or as you get things right your cookbook starts to get filled out.  The lighting on the candles was a little too strong in its movement and kind of distracted from the beautiful restaurant.  Once you start to figure things out though, it's fun and I can't wait to see your future updates!

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback we really appreciate it!
We are very excited to keep working on it and will definitely be looking into what you mentioned :)

Developer

The original idea was to have a UI element show the flavor profile of ingredients when you stand next to them (when they're eligible to pickup). The candles I tried some to get looking right, but I didn't spend too much time on them, I wanted the area to be dark but to be visible, I probably made the animation a bit too much, we'll tone the candles down on the next update after voting it over.

Love the art! It was a little confusing what to do at first but it was fun.

Developer

We originally had a bit larger scope, and intended to have a how to play screen, but as you can see from the "Submitted 12 minutes 33 seconds before deadline" we were scrambling to get the game playable at all. Glad you had fun with it once you figured out what to do. It sucks I had to remove the leaderboards, because for some reason the web requests were either crashing or freezing the game when exported to WebGL. Will definitely have to figure that one out at some point.

Hi there!
This reminds me some sort of Moonlighter vibe, very nice entry!

A note: The font for required items it's really little and blurry, sometimes it's hard to read it because the ground is also a pretty light color

Developer(+2)

Thank you for your feedback! Our artist was inspired by the game when making the art. And we're sorry about the UI but, we were running out of time and wanted to get a playable game out.

Developer(+1)

I tested the UI with various screen resolutions and it looked fine in Unity, but when exported to WebGL for some reason the text was slightly offset, it was down lower in the dark part of the tiles.

(+2)

I really enjoy the game! The style is wonderful

Developer

Aw thank you!!!

Developer

I agree, it was excellent to work with you.

Submitted(+2)

Really loved the game very peaceful to play!

Developer

Thanks so much!!

The "Enter Game Name" in main menu kinda threw me for a loop haha :D But other than UI, great job. Especially love the music choice :)

Developer

Thank ya! Our musician was top notch he was so nice to work with!

Developer

Oh shoot, forgot to change that... dangit ;/ The menus were fairly hastily made as we were running out of time and at the time we hadn't chosen the name of the game yet...

Hey, it’s ntwiles from the discord!

Love the aesthetic! Really cool lighting on top of beautiful art. Took me a second to catch on two what I was supposed to do, so I was glad that the customers didn’t seem to be too upset at waiting. Once I got the hang of it though I had a lot of fun.

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback and that you had fun!!!!

Submitted(+3)

It looks awesome. However, it is a pitty that you didn't manage to do better UI. I also didn't know what to do.

Developer(+2)

Thank you for the feedback!! The UI was an unfortunate piece we had to sacrifice for getting it in on time. As for the goal, you receive the orders in the lower right corner and look in the cook book to try and figure out exactly what they want, but there are holes in the recipe so you have to guess based on the description  :)  I will post a more thorough explanation on the page soon! thank you again and good luck!!

Submitted(+3)

Awesome visuals, gameplay needs a slight better explanation (i.e. multiple types of beef are described, but as far as i can tell they just want 2 pieces of the same beef as there's only one type) and the UI definitely takes away from the sprites.

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback! We will post a more extensive walkthrough soon!
Glad you enjoyed the visuals we had so much fun with them :D

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah, unfortunately UI was put together within the last day, unfortunately a good majority of the game was still in smaller units until the last 30 or so hours and UI had to connect to all these pieces and so it ended up being thrown together quickly just to get the game physically working.

Also yes, the ingredients if they're the same nae are the same ingredient, it's just instead of saying 2x Beef, we made them individual as to have more chances for the holes to obscure more information.

Submitted(+2)

Liked your game! Really good graphics and that 2D lighting looks awesome. One thing you may want to focus is the UI. A great game needs a great UI. Other than that, well done!

If you would like to, you can check out my game by clicking here.

Developer

Thank you!! Indeed UI was something we ran out of time to perfect. Hoping to fix that up eventually! Thank you so much for the kind words!
