An interesting concept! The atmosphere was really tense, which is exactly what you want in a horror game, so you should definitely keep it and lean into it.
A few things I think could be improved:
- Key bindings. Sprint on Ctrl and Slide on Shift felt a bit unusual, since most games have it the other way around. And C to crouch is a bit awkward as well. I feel like it's better to stick to the convention - Shift to sprint, Ctrl to crouch/slide depending on speed.
- Mouse sensitivity. Definitely needs an adjustment slider. My character was doing 180s with the slightest movement lol
- Got stuck on the hole part in the first level for like 5 minutes. I feel like the ceiling is too low for wall jumping, but maybe that's just a skill issue.
But other than that, I think it's very solid for a week. Keep it up, and I'm looking forward to seeing it on Steam's front page!
I love the visual design! It's simple, but is tied together very nicely. The shapeshifting mechanic is also pretty cool, although backtracking through the maze multiple times to get to the buttons you need got a bit repetitive after a while. Plus you never know what button opens what door, so maybe it would be better if after pressing a button, your camera would show you the door opening so you know what you did? Overall though, I liked it! Very good for 1 week!
Interesting experience. The graphics are nice and everything fits together well. The theme and tutorial were incorporated perfectly. Not sure why everyone says it's hard though - I found it quite easy. The layouts are not too hard to memorize and when you do, you can easily traverse them without any light. Too bad it was too short - I'd love to play more of this, maybe even with monsters or traps hidden in the dark. That would really discourage you from running around blindly.
Overall, a solid game. Great job!
A very nice little game. I loved the variety of recipes and the simplicity of it. The fact that sleeping "fee" was changing was nice too - it allowed me to bounce back from $0 a couple of times. Although I don't really get why there would be a fee for sleeping, but I'll suspend my disbelief haha.
The only thing that I didn't really like was the fact that you had to put ingredients in a specific order they're listed in. Wasted time and money just because the cheese comes after the wheat, and not the other way around.
Overall, a really nice and well polished game. A super satisfying experience. Great job!
The visuals are nice and pleasing. I loved choosing an upgrade for the bunny, although there was a bit of confusion there at first. I thought that when you pick a card, you apply the card's positive AND negative effects. It didn't occur to me that the negative effects are applied from the cards you discard. I loved the submission though - definitely in my top 3 so far!
Damn, the visuals are AMAZING! I love the style of it and the fact you can generate new worlds with different special effects. Sometimes is a bit too much, but you can always generate a new one. Although I gotta say, I felt kinda bad killing all these blobs that were just minding their own business. They're not even actively attacking you, and you're just destroying them for the sake of it hahaha.
Overall, a really fun game. I enjoyed playing it!
Do I have to follow the provided tutorial word for word, or can I put my own spin on it? For example, the tutorial for this GJ teaches how to create a 2D top-down movement system. Can I use it as a basis to create a 3D top-down system? Also, can I use the new Unity input system as opposed to the old one used in the tutorial?
Hey, thanks for reaching out to me! I was finally able to test your updated version of the game. And I gotta say, right off the bat it feels a lot more polished. The menu is nicer, the gameplay is smoother and the objective is more clear. I love that you've improved on the concept and updated the game!
I don't have much to add - everything has been said already. My only suggestion would be to add an Options menu with volume sliders. Music was pretty loud and there was no way to change it haha.
Other than that, awesome job! Keep up the great work and good luck with your future projects!
Very interesting concept. I see myself spending tons of time playing this game. The only downside is that sometimes you get killed for literally no reason when you're attracting stuff. I assume that's because you expose your side a bit when magnetizing, but sometimes it would kill you even through the magnet. Also, the music is blasting SUPER LOUD hahaha. Would be nice to add the option to turn it down. But I enjoyed playing the game and had a lot of fun! Great submission!
A really really well-made game! I LOVED the sound design of it. Every sound felt appropriate and satisfying. Was a bit hard to understand what I'm supposed to do at first, but after a couple of tries I got the hang of it. It would be nice if there was a visual indication of "too many protons", cause right now it's hard to understand when you're okay and when you're too close. But overall a great submission, well done!
Yeah, I agree with your older brother. Hell map was definitely the hardest. I think it's because of the sharp turns - that's what made hell literal hell for me haha. Rainbow had a lot slower turns and even had railings to prevent you from falling, so it took like 5 attempts to beat it, whereas hell took like 50. But again, I was spamming Spacebar, so maybe that's the reason 😁
Already rated yours, would appreciate if you'd play mine: https://itch.io/jam/scorejam18/rate/1511013
An interesting concept, that, unfortunately, my laptop can't handle. On your GIF, the ball moves like 3 times faster hahaha. The visuals are very appealing, would maybe be nice to color walls different colors and make the ball switch colors to indicate what wall it's attracted to. I feel like that would put it more in line with the theme. Also, it would be nice if there was an indication of a button being pressed, particularly in the options menu. I was pressing the sound off buttons and couldn't figure out if it's working or not.
But overall, a very nice game, hope I could see it grow one day. Not in size though, I feel like 500 MB is more than enough 😁
Very fun and interesting game. The fact that bullets hit enemies on their way back adds a new depth to it. It's intuitive, it looks great and it's fun to play! My only complaint is that the movement feels a bit too slippery and sometimes the character doesn't stop when you want them to and you die because of that. Oh and also, music level resets if you finish the game. But these are my only critiques, great game!
