Dude, seriously awesome game! The racing mechanics are so good, and the way you implemented the theme - GENIUS! I managed to beat every single level (including the bonus one). If anything, I just wish there were more levels haha

I did notice a bit of a bug, although I think someone else already posted about it. If you spam the polarization button, you aren't effected by the magnetic zones. It's not really a bug I even think NEEDS to be fixed, since all it does is prevent you from messing up in the magnetic zones, but it did help me significantly on the bonus level.

Anyway, AMAZING job dude! I think this might be my personal favorite game in the jam so far. It's that good.

I think you may have already played and rated my game, but if you haven't already, please give it a try! :)

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I didn't really wanna fix that because if it makes the player feel clever I don't see the problem with it. It's not gonna help you get best-times. But I could prevent excessive spamming I suppose.
And sure I've played Magnet to a Gunfight. Really fun game (though I didn't do very well haha)

Finally managed to pass it hahaha. That was a great experience. The driving doesn't feel too slippery as with a lot of driving games. The visuals are nice and the music and soundeffects are good too. I feel like the last track (not the bonus one) was a bit too hard though. Definitely made me rage a bit hahaha. But then I discovered a cheese - if you spam the polarisation button, you can drive through the magnet fields with no trouble at all. Granted, it doesn't give you the speed boost you might get from utilizing them correctly but at least I was able to pass the level hahaha. So maybe if you don't want that cheese to exist, a little cooldown on the polarization button might be nice. I guess some level redesigning too, cause the last level was super hard even with the cheese 😁

But overall, an almost perfect game! Great submission!

I was aware of that cheese before release and thought about doing something against it. But since it's not relevant for beating the best-times (you definitely lose time doing it) I saw no harm in it. If my game makes top 3 I will probably only consider the first 3 tracks for the streamer's times so they don't have to spend a disproportional amount of time on my game.

Thanks for the feedback

I see. Best of luck to you man! Hope you get to the top!

Oh lol I just realized you did beat the rainbow road map. You're the first one to do it except for me and my older brother. When he beat it he said that he found the rainbow map easier than the hell one, which I personally couldn't understand at all. I did intend the hell map to be a hard final map, but it was definitely supposed to be beatable compared to the rainbow one that was just intentionally super hard. another friend told me he found the jungle map the hardest?? Interesting to see how different people find different maps harder or easier.

Submitted

Yeah, I agree with your older brother. Hell map was definitely the hardest. I think it's because of the sharp turns - that's what made hell literal hell for me haha. Rainbow had a lot slower turns and even had railings to prevent you from falling, so it took like 5 attempts to beat it, whereas hell took like 50. But again, I was spamming Spacebar, so maybe that's the reason 😁

Wow, really one of the most interesting 2D Racers I've played in a while.

The game has some really unique mechanics. Racing games are always fun to try and get a high score in. The aesthetic and sounds are also very nice and soothing. The game also follows the theme well. Perhaps an issue is that the magnet mechanic is really variable and difficult to work with. The game already has really good driving physics, which is ruined in use because of the magnets. Overall, a fairly solid game!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

I swear the magnets are pretty consistent once you get used to them. You just have to understand that the force is greater the closer you get to the center, leveling at the middle of the range. Also you can build speed by switching just as you pass the magnet. If there's anything that's inconsistent, it's the wall collisions. Those are actually pretty hacky I'll admit.

Submitted

The magnets are consistent, and I have no issue with wall collisions. It's just that the magnets are hard to work with overall. Then again, this could be a high skill ceiling...

Developer

Oh, right. I might have misread your initial comment slightly, my bad. Yes, they are pretty difficult to learn. Especially for a game jam game where people only expect to spend a few minutes trying out each game. I'll take that as a learning experience.

Submitted(+1)

The only 5 star gameplay I gave so far! Wow, deep learning curve and so addictive, it is exactly the kind of game I like! I'll come back to this later to climb the leaderboard!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it! In a way our games have their parallels being rather difficult obstacle races that play a lot with momentum. I also enjoyed your people's game a lot, would make sense I guess :)

Submitted

I thought exactly the same! 😌

Nice concept! controls are a bit too hard for me, too much inertia :)

Developer

Understandable. I focused quite a bit on the highscore aspect and was trying to make a very competetive game. It might not be the best game for fellow jammers to check out and enjoy in a few minutes though. I'll find a solution for tha in future jams

Fantastic take on the theme <3
Clever use of magnetism to affect the race.

Quite enjoyable game ^_^

Really enjoyed playing it, I love how all the levels are different. I couldn't get past the lava level there was one corner I couldn't do. Ill have to try it again shortly otherwise it'll bug me all night. I think the cupcake level had to be my favorite.

Really cool game, not my kind of game but it's really smooth and easy to learn, but hard to master. I just feel the game would be better as a simple racer than using the magnets, but that's a matter of tase. Good job!

Developer(+1)

I playtested every track without magnets beforehand and I can guarantee you that it's a pretty dull experience. I can totally understand if you're not attracted to that sort of game though, it's sorta niche.

Pretty fun take on the top down racing game!

Gameplay cool.

Easy to play, tough to master. The graphics are nice, and the sound design brings the whole experience together

Solid entry!

Micromachines vibes with trackmania competitivity. The theme can't fit better!!

I love the design!

  • Gameplay: How did the game flow, did it have tight controls, what was your experience while playing
    • Gameplay was fun using the magnetic forces to launch my car forward. Track 5, 6, and Bonus are difficult. I rage quit on track 6. I got all the way to the end and fell off on one of the last turns. I came back and beat it, but now I am stuck on Bonus Track. I think it would be neat if it saved where you fell of and the time keeps going. This way for players that cannot complete the level in one go, can still complete it. Since I can't complete bonus track, I don't get a total time. :(
  • Theme: How well did the entry stick to the theme, did you like their interpretation of it
    • Stuck to the magnetic theme! Unique idea to use with cars for racing.
  • Aesthetics: How well does the game utilize its visual style and how appealing is it
    • The art went well together!
  • Sound: How well do the music and sound contribute to the game
    • Music and sound effects were great!

Not much re-playability, after you complete the tracks.

Developer

Actually it should give you a total time without beating the bonus track. Are you sure you didn't get one? Did you put in a name? Maybe try beating any level and coming back to the menu.

Thanks for the feedback regardless :) Glad you liked it .
And yes tracks 5+ are really hard I might have overdone it a little. I considered making you respawn on the checkpoints, but didn't find the time to implement it

Submitted

Gotcha. I played another track and now it posted my total time! Thanks! Great work on the game!
