Really nice game. Fun to play, great visuals and fitting audio! Here is some more detailed feedback:

  • The idea of flipping gravity is nice and playing on the top track certainly adds a difficulty level to the game. Although, currently there is no real incentive for the player to use the top track. Because it felt harder and there was no apparent benefit for me to use it I mostly kept on the bottom track. To have the choice to jump to the top track to be meaningful there should be some advantages/disadvantages in the options. Maybe there could be sections where the bottom track is clearly more difficult (or in some cases even impossible) which would encourage (or force) player to jump to top track to succeed in the game.
  • Switching lane when there is already an object immediately on the lane you  are changing to should not be possible. First two times that this happened I thought that I just missed some obstacle but when I realized what is happening it started feeling unfair. Because player is focusing on the things that are forward on the track it's difficult to see what is directly next to the character. This can lead to situations where the player dies without really even noticing why. The reason of the death could of course be highlighted in some way but the real solution to this (in my opinion at least) would be to prevent track change when the track is blocked. I think most of the games in this genre work that way, so the players are probably expecting it to work that way in your game too.
  • Connection to the theme seems a bit superficial. Instead you clearly well followed the other instructions: 1) to make game that could work as a mobile game and 2) that can be competed for score!
  • Leaderboard only has scores and no names. It would be interesting to know who has got each score.

Thanks for the awesome feedback, I have already started fixing some of the issues taking into account everything you've said.

super nice game! one of my favorites in this jam! really nice job

Developer

Thanks, I really liked yours as well!

The game looks really, really nice. The road going left or right really makes a cool effect on gameplay. The music also really fits with the aesthetic. Lack of sound effects makes the gameplay itself feel dull, though. Speaking of the gameplay, it's waaaay to simple. Even the map is repeated way to quickly. The positioning of the gems are off to how you jump, along with the fact that the magnet points to flip are too similar to the track. The connection to the theme is also very light. The game already looks so amazing, perhaps more gameplay depth can help it out. Great game, congrats on finishing!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback, I totally agree with what you've said. Just to clarify the connection to the theme - The hoverboard is using magnetic levitation on top of the tracks, and the pads you can jump on change the polarity of the magnets pulling you up instead. I'm glad you liked it though!

Wow! A very good game! i really love the colors and character!

Nice job, if you put more time in it you would have a better game than most of the similar mobile ones

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it, I believe after the game jam has finished we intend on finishing it up. Hopefully you can check it out then

The game flows smoothly and the graphic is super well done. I would have liked it with some speed scaling the furthest you go because like this, it's just an endurance race, you can't really fail that much. Enjoyable and good looking overall, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! It was supposed to have speed scaling but we had some last minute bugs that stopped it. I've fixed it now, it just wasn't in this version unfortunately.

I get It, the time was really strict! But your game came up quite cool nontheless! 😌

Solid concept, decent execution, and the aesthetics & sound fit the game well.

I did not like the jump, way too floaty and unresponsive. The level could benefit from better color-coding, instead of all orange.

Also, some feedback (sound, particles) whenever the player catches a gem would have been really nice addition, as well as higher rewards on the top track to incentivize going up.

Pretty good job overall!

Thanks for giving it ago, and for your feedback. We'll keep it in mind when we fix it up. Thanks

Nice game dude. I voted. Maybe you could also play and rate my game ?

Just finished up publishing to my portfolio if you wanna take a closer look at the model. There's a marmoset viewer with a static model (the version of marmoset I have doesn't support exporting animation to web) and a Sketchfab file with the idle hovering animation.

Just saw your discord post- pretty nice! The visuals and sound are great. My one suggestion would be to make everything faster but spread the obstacles out more. I'm not necessarily saying that the difficulty should change, but I think it would make it feel more intense, y'know? Otherwise it's great.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for giving it ago and for your feedback , having it speed up was intended but it was never properly implemented in time unfortunately.

(I've checked out your game as well)

I really like the asethetics of the game, just a bit too easy.

Developer

Thanks for playing, given more time the game would surely be harder with more depth.

Is a pretty cool take on some of the classic 90s style racing / driving games.  Good graphics.  Although there really is no incentive for the player to go to the top of the map and doing so is also pretty tricky and easy to die.

Also the smallest bit of feedback, the game can be entirely played with a keyboard.  So add a space bar or enter key or something to restart as an option, instead of having to reach for the mouse :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I never even considered using the keyboard to also control the menu, Ill look into it. Thanks!

Looks, sounds, controls and feels reall good. No problem there. There's two gripes I have with it gameplay-wise:

- It doesn't get harder, so as soon as you've figured out the timing it's fairly easy to just keep going. At that point highscore is just a matter of endurance and not a very exciting test of skill. It's still nice as a relaxing feel-good game though.
- It has aleady been mentioned, but one of the main mechanics, flipping to the top, isn't incentivised enough. There's no real need to do it and it's extremely risky.

Weird question: Can I see a full version of the character model?

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. The game originally was meant to speed up the further you got however I had some issues implementing it at the time so it sort of got pushed behind the que of things to fix. I would like to continue working on the game and get it feeling like a more complete game so making it more difficult at parts is definitely something Ill be looking into.

I think that could also tie into your second point of going onto the ceiling, perhaps adding some sort of higher risk higher reward would incentivize some braver players to go up.

Here is the answer to your "weird question":

Hi, I worked on the art for this game; I'll be uploading some stuff to my portfolio in the next few days like the character model and hoverboard. So you'll be able to see a better lit version and also a 3D model marmoset viewer of them pretty soon on my Art Station account at: https://www.artstation.com/aeonkitsune

Cool! Good job on the art. Has a very unique feel to it

Cool idea and good game. Would turn out to be a fun mobile game. Didn't go on top and wasn't to sure how to, plus would be nice to add name to leader board. However, was a good job!

Developer

If only we had another few hours, or I didn't have to work I would have put mobile controls in . I tried to do it when the jam got extended an hour but unfortunately  it wasn't too be. To get on top there are pads in the ground that when you go over them and jump to get flipped onto the ceiling, I understand it's not very clear unless you read through the page description so that's something Ill look into changing later.

Thanks for playing!

I LOVE THE AESTHETICS! Kinda has a 90s vibe to it haha. And the soundtrack for the game was super cool and made my blood pumping.

As for the gameplay, I feel like there's really no need to go on top. Staying on the ground is much safer and, I feel like, would get you farther. Maybe it could have some unpassable ground roadblocks that would force you to flip.

Also, the edges of the game are cut on the Desktop and the player almost goes out of frame. And on the Web version, it doesn't really fit the screen vertically. Making it fullscreen in Web is the only way to get the maximum FOV, but when you do it, all UI gets jumbled up and squashed. But it's understandable given a limited time.

Overall great job on your submission! I had fun playing it 😁

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it, I plan on finishing the game up a bit so Ill definitely look into fixing scaling issues. Thanks for letting me know!

Oh, I had already played this game before man. Very nice. High rating for sure ;)
