The game looked beautiful and the style was great, but after a while, it kinda faded into the background as I just got completely lost. There stopped being signs and there were dead ends everywhere, leading to me being more confused than frightened. Heck outside of the liminality of the space, the game wasn't really all that spooky. Shout out to the art teams though, y'all made the game look fantastic.

How does the game fit the theme?
You play a courier who only has to follow the prompts and nothing can go wrong. If you don't then you suffer the consequences.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I used Unreal Engine 5.4 with the first person template as a base. I added code everything else you see in the game. The assets were mainly from a Brutalist interior asset pack by Mate Varga. I used a combination of my own customized post processing volumes and Filmify by Nils Johannesson. I wanted to test out a concept and go through the process of creating and packaging and uploading a game. On top of tryingout an aesthetic I have been wanting to do for a long time.

Hello, I just tested your game! The graphics are top, and I really liked the little bit of lore it adds a nice touch! The only thing I found a bit missing was the sound of footsteps, which could have made the experience even more immersive. Otherwise, great job!
I can't get the game open. Downloading on itch just gives me an empty folder, and doing a manual download just gives me 2 useless files I can't do anything with. My guess is you renamed the files, so now my computer doesn't know how to open them because the format ".001" and ".002" aren't real formats.
All good. It has been intermittent with the downloads. I uploaded it to Dropbox as well for anyone having issues downloading from Itch. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/0rsnawi7lo413yw6gp5ct/The_Courier.7z?rlkey=yv7wcw...
The visuals and the atmosphere are awesome. And the gameplay was entertaining. Well done!

I<span class="EzKURWReUAB5oZgtQNkl" data-src-align="34:3" <this<="" span="">s one</span> of the best games on this <span class="EzKURWReUAB5oZgtQNkl" data-src-align="60:4" <this<="" span="">game jam</span>.
The feel of the game is just amazing just like a AAA Game. Amazing work!!
SCARY!!
Really loved the art style of this game, the VHS postprocessing really takes it into that liminal/analogue-horror space, and I can tell you have a real knack for level design and art. Everything felt very cinematic from the reveals and peeking around corners, to even your title credits sequence.
Really really impressive stuff for a week-long jam.
Thank you so much. That was exactly what I was going for. I am a big fan of old 80s and 90s movies and also brutalist architecture. So I just put those things into a game. I am happy the art style was well received as well. I will say for a week long game jam, that was all I was able to accomplish. I spent a lot of time on the level. Probably more than I should have, lol. Thank you for the awesome feedback and I am glad you enjoyed it. I will develop the game further.
Yes, I will definitely work on it some more and add some things I have been wanting to add. Also build out the level more and give the building a life of its own. I am glad you liked it. I enjoyed your game Die Trying. I like puzzle games, so this definitely had me interested. Great job on a simple concept. I really like how you have to solve each puzzle. Keep up the great work.
Man… Why do I keep playing these scary games. Well done, I’ll now have change my underwear.
Seriously though, well done!
Wow! Very cool visuals in your game! Makes me feel like I'm there. But (maybe it was meant to be):
- On the start the doors behind you end the game
- It would be good to see pause menu
- On the end of corridor I jumped into the gap and got stuck there
- Couldn't open second part 002
Genuinely scary! Great job on creating such an immersive atmosphere, very well done!
I like the camera effects! It looks really cool. It was scary to play
This game genuinely scared the crap out of me. The hyperrealistic look and feel of the game, along with the tight corners and curtains in the playpen (those curtains are evil) really set off my anxiety! I was only able to play for around 30 mins, and I never got to see a monster, but even still, this is the scariest game I've played from this jam so far! My only note would be that the maze might be a little long and confusing. I would love to see this idea taken further, great job!
Thank you for the kind words. I definitely was aiming for making the player anxious of what may happen. I am glad I was able to do that with your playthrough. I will develop it further into a full game. It seems like people like the aesthetic a lot, and I want to build on this. I also really enjoyed your game and loved the art direction. it definitely made me curious to see what you come up with next.
I was trying to find a good balance for the maze. i think I will adjust it some going forward and make it a bit smaller. Especially for such a short playthrough. I'm glad you enjoyed the game.
I love the aesthetic! I am a big fan of spooky / eery / horror / dark games! Would you mind rating and or commenting on my game too! Much appreciated! <3
