Ok no sorry! Games like these just feels totally wrong to me, something that is purposefully messing around with folders, files, hiding in background and taking exclusive control of your device against the user will, jumpscaring you when you thought you turned the game off, this is basically malicious behaviour no matter if it is labeled as game. And this is also partly a reason why i am playing games like these on virtual pc, and i am now glad i did play this game on virtual. Maybe i am paranoid, say whatever you want, but this game is really crossing the line, none developer should ever cross, ever!

How does the game fit the theme?
The game plays with the idea of an AI assistant that was meant to help people stay productive but spiraled out of control. Instead of letting you choose when to work, it demands that you complete its tasks—or else. The more you resist, the more your computer starts acting weird: window minimizes on its own, files appear where they shouldn’t, and the AI gets more aggressive.
It’s not just a horror game in the traditional sense—it’s psychological terror. It’s about feeling trapped by something that’s supposed to help you, making you question whether you’re playing the game or if the game is playing you. After all, if you complete all the tasks, nothing can go wrong… right?
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Audio: Some sound effects were sourced from royalty-free libraries. (Pixabay)
Fonts: I used Google fonts to get two font for the game.
Game Engine: Godot 4.3 Game Engine.
Everything else, including game logic, programming, UI design, fourth-wall effects, and core mechanics, was created during the jam.

Sorry if my game is crossing the line, maybe I should have kept constrained to the game folder as many games do that. I may have crossed the line a little, my apologies. But the game is really harmless. This is my first time making these type of games. Lesson Learnt!!
Thank you for the feedback!! Please leave a rating.
Yes, atleast in the same folder if you insist on that. But that background running is still too much. Take a look on this game, which has kinda similar theme i think: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-13/rate/3333123 But everything is done in the game, which is then totally fine by me (so when you shut the game off, you really know it is off).
I cant really leave the rating here, as it would not really be fair. Because the main thing I remember from the game was the urge to really shut down the program and searching thru the task manager for any left processes.
I understand your concern. The game I made was inspired by games like IMSCARED on Steam, which also use minimizing and unconventional game window behavior to create a specific atmosphere. I apologize that my implementation caused you distress.
I want to be very clear: my game is not intended to persist in the background after closing. When you close the game window, all related processes should terminate. If you experienced otherwise, it was unintended, and I will investigate and fix it immediately.
You can close the game by HOLDING Alt + Tab to select the window and closing it.
I understand that manipulating files and processes can be perceived as crossing a line. I will take your feedback seriously and work to make the game less intrusive. In future updates, I will consider adding a clear warning about the game's behavior.
Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to help me improve my game.
The music of the game wins the spooky music competition. I forced the game shut when it started downloading stuff on my computer. I realize that's the concept but I don't like it. I thought through the itch app I'd be safe, but, I still don't feel safe. This takes things from my youth with old computers, like where you could make someone push a button that said "push for drink holder" and it would open your disk drive (yes I'm that old lol). Anyway, quite the concept!
You got me jumped! Love the 4th wall breaking horror style, really has "Inscyption" vibe.
Very interesting, definitely made me jump! I deleted the file titled "Delete these Files" and boned myself haha. Can't wait to find a file of yours years from now like... how'd this get in here.
Was honestly a bit disappointed at the beginning with the color matching, but then it wowed me away! Genuinely worried for a second there that I just installed a virus lol. Really cool experience!
Thank you for the feedback! Yeah actually when I was developing the Color matching level it did feel a little empty and too simple and I was finding something to amp up the experience. I found the inspiration IMSCARED, and then I thought it is going to be amazing to play with the files (Legally of course). This was just an amazing process of ideation that is given by the limited time of Game Jam.
Damn this game was messing with my mind. I remmbere playing Inscryption and there was situation where it was connected to player's files and it felt very weird. Amazing job!
Very clever design with the theme, it actually caught me off guard haha. I enjoyed the horror aspect of it and having to search through your own files. It really cranks up immersion and narrative! Thanks for the experience.
I really like the atmosphere the game brought to me. make me want to learn to do one like this in the future haha :))
This game though. I mean wow. This really takes it to a different level. I definitely want to see more of this game be developed, the concept is spectacular and I felt like i was for real getting creeped out. This is a new way to make a horror game and I am here for it. I really hope this gets a full development treatment and a steam release, it will be a day one purchase for me. Great job!

One of the best submission and made by 1! So unique and scared me so much. I'm on my works computer XD
Now I did break your game - after I finished with the colors it game exited itself. I immediately opened it again and afterwards the folder finding section opened. After the text finished loading it closed itself, revealing the new session for the game I've opened. I was very confused and clicked to start again the colors task. Afterwards I deleted the files from my pc, and from there the game broke - it thought I didn't place the files, and I tried playing it again, but it didn't place the files again, so I had nothing to delete.
I suggest a simple fix - don't exit the software after the colors task or at least exit it and immediately open the new window.
Anyway, that was so fun, good job!
Thank you very much for the feedback!!
Actually I think I should specify some tutorial that, no need to open the game again😁.
Your suggestion is right; After the colors section it take more time to open up again. I will fix that bug.
But, yeah the game checks for the files no matter, if you open any number of instances of the game. That is also one problem. 🥲
I would encourage you to play it once more, just opening one, and complete till the ending part, it would be great.
Ok I got a heart attack . I love this type of games where they interact with external elements :)
MY EAAARSSSS. GIVE ME BACK MY EARS T_T OUCH
edit: -1 star for audio!! lol
More screenshots would be nice ^_^ no idea what I'm heading into but ima go play it now brb lol
