This game is crazy good. The amount of content you got in this within 10 days is wild.

If I have any complaints, I cant remember any when writing this. Seriously, one of my favorites. I wonder why so few ratings for such a well made game!
Five Stars!

This was one of the games I wanted to try most as a huge Mega Man fan, and the experience did not disappoint, I had a lot of fun with it. Gameplay was smooth (jump does feel a little heavy at times like someone else mentioned though), great sprites, great music, it captured the spirit of a Mega Man-like game very well.

A few things I want to comment on:

  • I think the appearing blocks need a stronger sound, the block sounds in regular Mega Man are an important part of the timing for me and I think a more obvious sound might be helpful in that regard, it’s a little quiet

  • I found being able to go back through mid-level gates was a hindrance to maneuvering in certain rooms, especially when there’s no real reason to go back through them. I moved back to position myself against an enemy bullet and went back through the gate a bunch of times

  • You can stand on the small ledge in the boss rooms in front of the door and it ends up being an easy way to cheese Deadeye-Rate and Py-Rate as they can’t hit you from there and will jump into your shots (forgot the name of the other boss but he can hit you from a certain position, it was the same otherwise)

The above issues were minor for me though, nothing that hindered the experience greatly for me, and I wanted to share my feedback in hopes it will improve the game even more. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality, the team did great work! I look forward to giving the post-jam version a try!

Finally got around to playing this, and you did an awesome job!! I love the music and the sprite work is impeccable. It felt a bit weird to play a Megaman game that doesn't have limited lives, honestly, but I died a good chunk of times so it's not unappreciated.

Some stuff I took note of while playing:
1: For some reason, the main menu theme doesn't loop. Also there's a typo in the options menu - "resart" instead of "restart". Little things to fix!
2: Some control issues - the camera reacts a bit too early, I feel like it'd be better if it only turned when you were near the middle. As is, it can get a bit disorienting if you turn around to shoot something and the camera shifts half a screen. As well, the jump feels a little heavy? I think it's because you don't normally spend enough time at the height of your jump, because I noted that when in space or lightly bonking your head, it feels a lot nicer.
3: I did the levels out of order, so I tried using the fire weapon on Deadeye-rate since he had the plant stage - it didn't work, but turns out Deadeye has a rather bad bug. If you run right up to him while he's trying to back off and shoot, he tries to back through the wall and gets stuck against it. First time it happened I backed up to free him but then he killed me, so second round I just trapped and shot him to death. It felt a bit mean. (Vaguely related, why do the gun enemies in Botanical Garden not fall over upon shooting like all the other ones?)
4: The sound effect for a shield deflecting my bullet is a lot more satisfying than the sounds for hitting or killing an enemy. The hitting sound is just so dull and muted in comparison...

Sorry if these issues seem nitpicky - but everything else is so good, I have nothing else to remark on! It truly does feel like a real, full game and I'm incredibly impressed you managed to make this whole thing in just 10 days! Top scores from me, I look forward to playing the full release!!

Thanks for all the feedback and the compliments!! I reported the music looping issue on the title screen during playtesting but Single Shot said it was intentional... :p give my music more screentime darn ittt

I'm impressed you found a bug with the Botanical Gardens boss that we didn't, we were in a discord call screensharing our gameplay to Single Shot and yelling at the boss for it being too difficult LOL
Hope we can fix all this stuff post-jam! You rock for catching all these things and playing our game :)

Thanks for  playing and glad you enjoyed the game so much.

as for your notes,

1. this may sound strange but I went out of my way to make the title music not loop, just felt more retro that way. and the typo is my bad.

2. I kind of get what you mean about the camera, I prioritized always being able to see ahead of you so that the draw back. and the jump was me trying to get the fast fall feel of mega-man. this was mostly me just remaking things from memory so it gets wonky.

3. you would think the plant guys weak to fire, but he's not a plant lol. as for the bug, that's on me. I said in another reply that the garden was made in the last hours of the jam, the boss was also part of that dev time. but thanks for letting me know! also the pirates in the garden are deadeye subordinate, so they are elite snipers. (they also have an eyepatch) so they are a bit better at this then the normal moots lol.

4. sorry about that, sound is not my forte, that's forte's forte. I tried my best to make sounds that work but they fall a bit flat from times to time.

thanks for such a in-depth comment, I'll try to improve what I can for the post jam version!

Really nice Megaman inspired entry, tiles looks fantastic, having different weapons is obviously a must (but I did not end up using them that much), there is a lot of different enemies and details put into every level!

The only bad things I could say is that the camera in the "Botanical Garden" sometimes hides crucial parts of the level that instantly kill you and the appear/disappear platforms go on/off instantly (even in the Megaman games they at least had an appearing animation if I remember correctly).

But this are mostly nitpicks, incredibly neat game and amazing entry!!

Glad you enjoyed the game so much!
Botanical Garden is the weakest level because I made it in the last hours of the jam, it also got the lest amount of play testing for it

Damn, then for such a low amount of time to work on it you did a nice job!

Submitted(+3)

Wow I'm surprised a game of this quality has so little ratings, this was a very fun experience, the game is extremely polished and faithful to megaman-like games, I loved it and I hope you get to finish it :>

I think people prefer playing jam games quickly in the browser window (myself included, so I can play more games faster).
to download there is greater friction. I downloaded this game and haven't played it yet, for example, but it's on the list, it looks promising :)

This is really cool! The art is very nice, the mechanics are solid, and the soundtrack is a bop.

This is probably just a 'me thing', but between how hardy the enemies are and how few items they drop, I took any opportunity I could to run past pirates.

The audio is a little imbalanced. The enemy death and intro alarm sounds are quite louder than the other sounds.

Great work!

I mean I'm a BIG fan of Megaman, so obviously I loved this game. I like the different color palettes that it has and I think it's a good tribute to one of the best games ever (MM).

Congrats! =)

Actually an awesome game, can't wait for it to be updated (if it is)
I love how cartoonishly the enemies fall over. It's so charming

Developer(+1)

The plan is in deed to finish the game, add in the final level and boss.
