Very fun game! I enjoyed the various enemies and bullet patterns and the dash was so satisfying to use. It took me some time to get used to the controls but thanks to the tutorial I still managed to get all A ranks. I wish there was some details on how ranks are calculated and maybe a more difficult rank for replayability. Other than that the game felt very polished and the chiptune music was great. Good job :)

Developer

Thank you! All A ranks is excellent; the tank controls and the ship turn speed definitely take some time to get used to, I wish I’d had a few more people playtest some of the movement earlier on. I also wish I’d added some details on the rank as well to the mission-complete screen. The specifics are: S rank = no damage taken, A rank = no deaths (no repairs), B = 1 death, C = more than 1 death. Glad you liked the music too, thanks for playing!

Great game play, reminds me of some good old arcade titles. Pure fun :]

Thank you!

It's really fun to play, I liked the tiny ships and the repair option, I think it is a great approach to health and lives, I might borrow it in the future.

Thank you! I really like non-punishing failure modes in games; I feel like dying and getting sent back to a checkpoint feels really bad, especially in a jam game where I just want people to see my entire game. I’ve gotten really positive responses from similar mechanics in the past, I highly recommend giving it a try.

Well done! The music was quite good and the graphics also aren't bad. And the dash-crash attack was nice! I only know about one big problem - the controls. Firstly, moving forwards and backwards by Up and Down arrows and rotating by Left and Right is everything but intuitive. People (including me) are used to moving to the left and to the right by Left and Right arrows. Secondly, it's weird that the cannon shoots to the sides. It's usual for the cannon to shoot forward, it was difficult to get used to shooting to the sides. Next time, make the controls intuitive and don't try innovations. Except for the controls, the game is awesome!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, tank controls are definitely polarizing, in retrospect it’s definitely not my favorite control scheme. Thanks for giving the game a try!

The game is a joy to play. A very polished experience. Music, art and sfx are top notch. Got A rank on all three levels :)

Developer

Wow really nice job, AAA is really good. Thanks for the kind words and for playing, I really appreciate it!

Movement and shooting worked great. I love the little mirrored shadows on everything.

I had to use 2 repairs for the final boss and I think I'm gonna need to try again and aim for that A-Rank.

Developer

2 repairs on the final boss for a first try is not bad at all, nice job. Thanks for playing!

Hey! I made a top ten video of the games from this jam. (Spoiler alert, this game is in it)

If you like the video, please feel free to share it :)

Check it out!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for making a video, glad you liked the game! I ended up playing a bunch of the games you mentioned in your video after watching it, good recommendations.

Not sure if you ever played Overboard/Shipwreckers but reminded me of that. The gameplay, graphics and music are great, as well as the little things like telegraphing and slow down after getting damaged is useful. The only difficulty jump was at the end boss but I liked how you were only graded on how many times you died.

Developer

Hmm I haven’t played Overboard/Shipwreckers, I might have to check it out. Thanks for playing and for the comment. The last boss is definitely a big spike in difficulty, I had originally intended to have another mission leading up to the final boss to smooth things out, but ran out of time. Glad you enjoyed the game!

Game feels amazing! Especially, when defeating a boss. I like the game mechanics quite a lot.

Developer

Thanks a ton!

So much fun. Great Job!

Amazing. I would need practice to get used to the controls. Overall a very juicy Game.

Thanks for playing!

This is amazing - easily my highest rated entry so far! It plays amazingly well, it reminds me of Vlambeer's LUFTRAUSERS in terms of game-feel and gameplay. Excellent work :)

Awesome experience, I played 'til the end. It was challenging but super enjoyable and almost all of the enemies/attacks were super clear.  Also the controls were perfect.

[SPOILERS]: I finished the second phase of the boss with a dash and it was super satisfying.

BTW, I played Spectral Slash before and loved it and also I was following your progress for the jam on twitter.

Developer(+1)

Hahaha finishing the final boss with a dash-crash is super sick, glad you liked the game. Ooh thanks for playing Spectral Slash as well, I’m really proud of that game.

Good job on the game and gameplay!

Definitely seeing this becoming a hit if you continue development post-jam.

Some small points you might want to consider going forward:
- It felt like I was turning a little too fastly for a ship, though this might just be me.
- It was kind of a bummer that I could not trick the enemies into shooting each other.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback. Letting ships shoot each-other is a really cool idea, I wish I’d thought of that during the jam haha!

Awesome game. Very fun to play. Great graphics and sound. Amazing job!

Great game. Love the special effects and music. Controls were super responsive too. I can definitely see this being expanded on to be a larger title :-)

Thank you!

A killer game here. The sprite stacking/rotation of the ships is super clean and readable, while leaving plenty of space for shooting and dodging. The ripples and shadows in the water really emphasize the depth of the perspective. The small play area and floatiness of the ship feels very arcade-y, the comparison that comes to mind is Defender. The dash crash homing attack feels sick. The music has no right grooving so hard. And a classic multi phase final boss. Excellent all around.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the kind words. Always a pleasure to hear from you!

wonderfully polished game !  Simple gameplay, but I can't stop playing until I've beaten it. Two fase boss! It's a surprise. Enjoyed the game the most.

Fantastic!, love all the small details like the reflections, boat wakes and dash shadows, the sound effects are nice and crunchy and I love the music, that motif is so nice

Developer

Thank you! I spent a lot of time on the little things, like the ripples + reflections. Glad you liked the music and the main theme, I have a lot of fun composing stuff for jams because it’s usually just 1 motif + a bunch of variations.
