Congrats on completing the jam! Took a bit to get the jumping but it worked well when moving fast. I ran into a somewhat odd issue with the gun, it would shoot once and then there was a delay, but if you kept spamming it it would rapid fire. When I walked past the angel and demon, their text stayed on my screen for the rest of the play time.

Developer

The delay was meant to be there but during testing I felt like it didn't work so I didn't take the time to remove it. I guess it does work just on the first net that is shot. The text has a "next" button at the bottom of the screen but in hindsight that is a terrible play for it to be, it would be better at the top with the rest of the dialogue. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

ghastly gary is such a funny guy. the way he bobs his bazooka up and down as if he's having the best time of his life ;-)well done!

Had a great time playing this little game :) enjoyed using the bazooka i think it is either way the net launching tool to kill demons and capture lost souls while collecting essence :).  The jump mechanic was pretty unique from most games I've seen but once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed it.  I like many others I didn't realize how many times you could get hit but after reading the comments see that it is ten times before restart.   Great game and no problem it's not easy putting together a playable game in ten days and making sure every base is covered but great game and keep up the great work.

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you have a great time :) I tried to do something interesting with the jump since he is a ghost. I wanted to add a lot more like a section where you play a frogger knockoff and get hit by a car before turning into a ghost, but my scope was too big for my skills. This is my first game jam and I'm a solo dev so I'm  just happy I managed to make something fun that has a beginning and an end lol. Thanks again for playing!

When you understand that the "jump" works like a "flying" ability, the movement becomes very fun! I also love that there are multiple endings! Great job!

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game, I found myself doing a few run throughs to see all endings! I love the level design and I love the controls even though I was a little confused on the jump/float mechanic, I had a blast with it.

There is no health bar or health indicator and that was certainly annoying but just shooting randomly and quickly seemed to be the easiest solution to prevent that from ending me too soon.

The only other thing I would suggest is adding a volume slider as the sounds were just very loud.

GG, thanks for the submission!

Developer(+1)

Your the first player to mention the alternate endings. It makes me happy to hear you had enough fun to want to see them all :). I didn't do a volume slider because I am so use to just using the buttons on my mouse to control my PC audio and it didn't cross my mind that's not very common, I will definitely take the time in the future to add those options. Thank you for playing and the feedback!

The movement of the game was very fun. I liked the quintuple jump. The map was really big and I would've liked some sort of map. But it was still fun to explore everywhere. I also died one time, I kept getting hit and I was hoping there would be a hidden healing mechanic or something since there wasn't a health bar but I guess there wasn't. Still a fun game though :)

Developer

A health regen mechanic would have been a great way to do it and could've been worked into the story as ghost energy or something like that. Thanks for playing and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it :)

Love the look and feel to this! Cannon was fun to :). I really enjoyed playing this, and managed 9 out of the 10 souls :).

Feedback wise,.. suggest taking the camera a little further back, to have a bit more in the screen.
Need some info on the players health/lives. Some system of regaining health perhaps to, but somthing to let you know how close you are to err.. dying?,.. loosing :).
A Mini map, or some inidcation of where to go. You've gone for a search around style platformer set up, rather then a linear aproach. So hunting down one or two missing souls might get frustrating (saying that, I managed to find them all, just got taken out before the last one).

Great job, and really well done for this. As a fellow Solo Dev, I know how much work it can be doing this all yourself. Seems you made the art to! which is super impressive! Well done!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for both playing and the great feedback! The one you missed must have been in the canyon area that's below the floating platforms. There's is one on both ends of the bowl. The health system was put in really late and definitely needs more info. The way it works right now is 10 hits then you have to restart, but I realize the player has no way of knowing what they are even at to begin with. In the future I will add the player health and death mechanics earlier. Thanks again for playing and I'm glad you had fun!

Great little game. I couldn't complete it though as I kept dying. Is there any indication of your health? I couldn't see anything.

I really like the art style on this, and Gary's happy little face, I guess he's happy because he doesn't have to go to work anymore!

The music is nice and relaxing too, and the sound effects are good as well.

I like how the devils will follow you then stop when you get a certain distance away from them, that's good.

And I also like how the bazooka has 360 rotation, so you can shoot while running away like a coward, which I was doing frequently.

I think I found a bug, you can fire once, then you can't fire again until the net has disappeared, but then after that you can repeatedly fire as quick as you can press the mouse button.

Overall great job, especially as its the first game you've made, great work.

Oh, and the title screen is good too, with Gary's surprised spirit seeing his own body.

Thanks for playing! Unfortunately there is no indication of the players current health. The way it works is you can get hit 10 times before you have to restart. In hindsight it would be better to have a system with 3 lives and a way to register if enemies were destroyed or coins were collected so they don't persist.  Plus a health bar would have helped the player understand what is actually going on.

The 360 rotation took me a day to get working but I knew it was worth it because it is the main part of the game. I figured the game should be fun first and for most.  The bug with the first net not firing must be from the netcooldown I have in the code. I didn't understand why it wasn't working but I assume the cooldown was only affecting the first time the player shoots and not the sequential times.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and giving me the great feedback!

Like the previous comments mentioned, I didn't know how the jumping mechanics worked at first. But that's only a minor issue for me. I liked catching lost souls. The simplistic art added a lot to the overall aesthetic of the game and gives it its charm. I love the controls, they're smooth and responsive and I just love the feeling of launching into the air :) Congrats on submitting!

Developer

Thank you! Happy to hear you figured it out and enjoyed it!

Once i found out how the jumping mechanic works, it was fun.  I have to say that i almost gave up before i found out how to jump higher tho.   Just for feedback purpose, I think if that's one of the game's main mechanic, it doesn't hurt to just let the player know (i/o letting them find out).

all in all, it was a fun game to play.  I loved the surprise room with lots of evil spirits.

great job, keep up the good work!

(p.s thanks to your page i realized that you can have both WebGL build and downloadable executable file at the same time!)

Developer

Thanks for playing and I'm glad to hear you had fun! In the future I will definitely be sure to set aside time to teach the player how the game works instead of just environment ques. I'm also glad someone found the pit of despair haha. Thanks again!

I found myself getting into this game. I really liked the verticality of  this game. Took me a bit to understand that I could almost fly by repeatedly hitting the spacebar. Once I understood that I found myself loving the movement in this game. The little brown spirits thought are horrible little pricks. My daughter came in and called them flying poops. Props to you, this was one the games I really found myself loving.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for play and  for the great feedback! I wanted to add a simple tutorial on the movement but unfortunately I ran out of time. That's why I had the pit in the beginning and the steep cliff, I was trying to goat the player into finding out the jump mechanics on their own. Your daughter has a great imagination! Personally, the best part of deving is hearing people's reactions so thanks for sharing both of your thoughts. Definitely made my day thinking of the brown spirits as flying poops :).

Good work! Nice music

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I ran out of time and couldn't make the music myself, but I did find some nice tracks that fit well. I listed the sources on the game page in case you want to check out what they have for any future projects.

Fun mechanics! It was tough to find the last 1 or 2 souls. Once I figured out how to float properly, though,  it was a game changer!

Developer

I was hoping that the jumping mechanics would be easier to pick up. You can actually jump up to 5 times, the faster you jump the higher you go. And if you space the jumps out you can float. I should have added more of a tutorial but unfortunately I ran out of time. I'm glad you worked it out! Thanks for playing!

nice game. liked how the nets had gravity so you had to aim them just right.
